Under the oak there is a door,
do you wonder what it was put there for?
For fairies to get out to the world,
to watch the little boys and girls.

They keep an eye on each of you,
check the things you get up to.
Try and see you're safe from harm,
snuggled up at night and warm.

When you're there, they hide and peep,
in the bushes, hidden deep.
So when you see a flower sway,
there's fairies watching as you play!

A gull in profile on a rock
Tang of salt laden air
Crash of waves down below
On my lips a silent prayer

Oh that I could walk into the sea
Leave behind the beach of sand
Slip into her warm embrace
Let her carry me in her hand

Carry me ever so far away
Leave me on a deserted shore
There to find what I seek
Then, only then, to roam no more.
“Thou Shall Not Keep No Pets.” they said
On our housing estate
Maybe that’s why mum got mad
When I brought home a snake.

It was very pretty really
With a pattern on its back
Parts of it was sorta green
The rest was sorta black

“Get that out of here.” Mum cried
Racing to the loo
“Get it right away.
I’ll not budge until you do.”

I thought, ‘Well. That ain’t friendly.
Such behaviour just ain’t right.’
“If that’s the way you feel mum,
You can stay in there all night.”

I settled down outside loo door
My lonely vigil I would keep
I would not weaken in my task
Not even for a sleep

“I can outlast you mum.” I called
“Just you wait and see
And I didn’t falter, till half past six
And it was time for tea.

“What can I have for dinner mum,
For surely I must eat?”
“Toss out that ruddy snake.” she said
“And I’ll cook you up a treat.”

“I will make your favourite meal
With lots of ice cream to follow.”
I tell you that was tempting
And my tummy was quite hollow.

But, “I’ll not submit to bribery, or coercion.”
I did claim.
“I have principles you know? But I’m hungry
All the same.”

“Well go into the kitchen dear.”
“Switch the oven on to ‘Bake’.”
And when it’s glowing, nice and hot
Toss in that bleedin’ snake”

I came upon in childhood
a soul quite dimly lit,
we said "hello" in passing
upon coincidence.

Our paths were very distant,
we danced to different songs
but every now and then I'd stop
and watch that soul glow on.

I marveled at the warming hue
that soul would quietly exhibit,
touching lives with tenderness;
and I wondered how he did it.

The years passed quickly by, it seems
and when reality seemed dark,
I knew that somewhere I could find
that soft, consistent, spark.

I still cherish that unique and special soul
unlike any other,
connected in hearts we will always be
for that soul is
my dear brother.

What is it with this fatal attraction
For my soul that’s what it is
I have tried hard to ignore it
And not always give in

Erase you from my heart and mind
To be free from you at last
But every time you’re near
I simply have no chance

What is it about you
Keeps me wanting more
Your eyes mesmerize me
And pull me into your world

Your body makes my pulse race
I undress you with my eyes
I wish it were just physical
I’d have walked away by now

I love the way your mind works
Even if I don’t always understand
You make me think about things
That I never have before

The way you make me smile
And the way you make me laugh
Is just another of your facets
That keeps me coming back

I love the way you accept me
Like it’s ok to be myself
I let my guard down around you
And I take off my many masks

You seem to understand me
Even with all my many quirks
You even seem to tolerate me
When I’m acting like a *****

There’s so much more about you
That I just can’t find the words
To tell all the reasons
That you're driving me  berserk

That’s why I keep staring at you
With such passion in my eyes
You're my fatal attraction
And that I can’t deny.
