Inferno
Just like an inferno
He raged out of control
A hundred miles an hour
Burning down the road
He took a left at Hell
He’d been there, you could tell
As he continued on down the empty highway
Heading towards the setting sun
Chased and on the run
But always staying one more step ahead

In Retrograde
I’m seeing things in retrograde
It’s dyslexia of the mind
Going forward, looking back
Still hoping that I’ll find
One who can decipher
The rhythm and the rhyme
Or who can join the two together
Into something redefined
So it’ll help me see more clearly
Amid the daily grind
And snap me back into reality
Just in the nick of time

His Shield
He stood behind his shield; his badge
He was bullied in his youth
He chased and chased for justice sake
Always in pursuit
He volunteered to clean the streets
And to always tell the truth
Then he rescued all from danger
While remaining calm and cool
Hounded by reporters
Doing what they do
Don’t be who aren’t
Just be yourself, be you
The light will find its way to the top
It can’t help but be pushed through
To the surface where the darkness
Is lit up by the moon

Zen
We’re tranquil when we first find zen
When we locate our peace, lying deep within
If our troubles consume our thoughts and minds
And we’re scared of what we just might find
That’s where yin and yang come in
To balance out the game of life;
A game we’ll never win

Lambs Blood
How does the lion fall in love with the lamb?
How is its thirst quenched
Without a well thought out arranged plan?
The beast of all beasts; it feasts
Until it’s done
Until the bitter end

Head down and raised hand
The only question:
Which is the one that I am;
The lion, or the lamb?

Is it a look, a sound, or a sweet scent?
Hung up and hell bent
Dispersed at a moments notice
The feeling that
transcends

Mind over matter,
Completely empowered,
Just as lambs feel,
Before being devoured

A nightmarish dream,
Filled with red streams,
And fresh meat
Unannounced, subtle, discrete
But ultra aware
Of its natural instinct
to flee
When the wolves descend
Back, back into the evergreens

Under blood clouds
Over lush land
Tree roots
And black sand

Awaken by bee stings
Vultures beaks and bat wings
Jet streams
And sweet things
The cruel world,
My reality; it seems

Walks along the endless trails
Amidst dandelions and daffodils
Pansies and petunias at last
Fill the air with sweet finesse

For the utmost and their betterment
As with landscapes and with wishing wells
Fairy dust and witches spells
Plush green grass and tall thick trees

Orange sky, and mirrored plains
Across the water, along the grain

Within our reach, and out of sight

Navy Man
As they say “parting, is such sweet sorrow”

What will she do when he leaves her come tomorrow?

He might be their‘s, but he’s only theirs to borrow

While he’s away, she’ll  be empty, she’ll  be hallow

A kiss, a kiss
Was the thing that they most missed

While away, every day
Protecting their homeland

She prayed, she prayed
To protect her Navy man

And on the day of his return
She scurried to the base

To meet her man, to meet her man
And kiss him on his face

When their eyes met, when their eyes met
He took her by the hand

And kissed her deep with all his might

Under the moonlight, on dry land

A day unlike any other day
Arrived as quick as could be

A reason to rejoice had come
Expecting a new baby 👶🏻

Their love for one another
Had produced a baby boy

And this affair between two lovers
Ended with great joy

Falling Away
Pieces of her fell away
Happens more each and every day
Bit her tongue for everything that she had to say
Got pushed aside even though she wasn’t in the way

It’s a cycle, it’s a travesty
It’s a ******* mystery
How every outpost blew up from a live grenade
From here to there all up and down the freeway

It’s a war zone, it’s a free range
It’s taking cover when the law breaks
When animals get a fair shake
There’s only so much more that she can take

She never spoke up;
She kept inside all her suppressed rage
She walked right out of her birdcage
Into bright lights and a grand stage
When all she wanted was a fair wage

It’s a cycle, it’s a travesty
It’s a ******* mystery
How every outpost blew up from a live grenade
From here to there all up and down the freeway

From the city, to the government
They dictate how our lives are spent
Overcast and the skies are gray
Above our land as the world decays

If this was a book, I would turn the page
If the color of skin turned from brown to beige
Would this be handled in the same way?
But even then, it’s too hard to gauge

It’s a cycle, it’s a travesty
It’s a ******* mystery
How every outpost blew up from a live grenade
From here to there all up and down the freeway

She doesn’t cough when she talks
She doesn’t shimmy when she walks
She don’t judge, and she don’t speak
She just nods her head and agrees

For fear of something that might be said
Don’t look now, but she wound up dead
Over something in the paper that she thought she read
Hit the ground from a bullet traveling through her head

Pieces of her fell away
Happens more each and every day
Bit her tongue for everything that she had to say
Got pushed aside even though she wasn’t in the way

It’s a cycle, it’s a travesty
It’s a ******* mystery

The Hypocrisy
I had an urge to soar
When I opened the front door
I needed to explore
The world and all it’s lore
The things I’ve heard
And have not yet seen
If only on the TV screen
All the things imagined
Asleep and in my dreams
All the colors of the rainbow
Purple, red, blue and green
Things aren’t how I thought they’d be
Two for you and one for me
And now I see the hypocrisy
So close your eyes, inhale and breathe

The fire is growing, owning the land
Community together
Walking hand-in-hand
To the shores
To safeties claim
I’d stake my rights
If all the same
From every direction
People make their way
Under orange skies
And a not so distant flame
Burning, churning, thirsting
Soaked and overcome
Engulfed in the fires path
Affecting more than some

Blip On The Radar
I sleep with one eye open
Still I get no rest
Regarding my flaws
To which I detest
I see myself from the outside
As well as within
The spiral, the downfall
Within my own skin
I border intellectual
Yet, I’m dumb as a rock
I fly my own journey
Far away from the flock
Yet, I clip my own feathers
I disable my will
If I were a fish, I would drown
Despite having gills
I envision there’s heaven
I contemplate hell
I flipped in a penny
At the old wishing well
But the penny had value
Where my wishes had none
I shy away from the moonlight
Just to stare at the sun
It’s good versus evil
It’s the battle within
In my chest there is heartache
So I counter with sin
I use words as my weapon
I throw daggers, throw darts
I aim at the bullseye
And I finish what starts
I’m persistent and ******
I dig deep, go too far
I threw out my filter
And I counted the stars
I counted 1 million
Which seems like a lot
But it’s only a fraction
Of the gone and forgot
Just a blip on the radar
In the existence of time
Yet, I feel like a legend
Inside my own mind

I’ve walked on down the corridor
I’ve knocked on every single door
To find out the whole truth and more
But all I get are questions that have no answers
I talk until my face turns blue
But that has nothing to do with you
It’s cold but my body’s staying warm
I reach out to touch you, my dear
There’s no need for fright or fear
I love you, and that’s the entire truth
You’re the essence of my forgotten youth
That keeps me sane and grounded towards the future
You have my heart and pull my strings
My angel with her angel wings
Your good nature overwhelms me
I see the light in the darkness now
I never thought when, why, or how
I’d ever find contentment
With you and I side by side
My head held high and full of pride
That’s how you’ll always be remembered
Forever till the day I die
I’ll wipe your tears each time you cry
Until every tear turns into a smile
That’s my single mission in life
To bring you joy, instead of strife
It’s all I can do to repay you
For everything you’ve done and do
And I thank you for the person I’ve become

The Sleepwalk
I grow naturally suspicious
When you sleepwalk past my heart
It’s my only inclination
That we’re growing far apart
Could be I’m just paranoid
To lose you to your dreams
I hope my inclination to your destination
Isn’t what it seems
You journey towards the window at night
A window I locked tight
So you don’t open up the latch
Attempting to take flight
Is this your subconsciouses doing
Should I be terrified to sleep
For fear of losing you to you
Am I protector of the weak
Are you a vessel for your demons
Are you at their beckoned call
Do they lift you up by angels wings
Just to watch you fall
I am not a savior
Barely a protector of myself
But I’ll battle with you until the end
If that’s any sort of help
I’ll brandish out my sword
I will wield my shield
I’ll listen to every single word
Until all has been revealed
Until all the evils gone
No more optical illusions
But the will to carry on

A Time I Used To Know
I still don’t have a love
A love to call my own
It’s hard to meet somebody
When you’re sitting home alone

If I could only venture out
Into the world unknown
Maybe I’d find someone
That my heart and mind condone

Life is trial and tribulations
Perseverance to behold
I’m not saying anything you don’t already know
But it still needs to be told

I’ve been stuck in hiding
Destructive to my soul
Afraid to go on living
The whole things overblown

With anxiety a plenty
Depression undertones
I closed myself off to the world
Waiting to explode

But life is kinda funny
There are no one way roads
There’s twists and turns
all along the way
And I’m not sure where they go

Life is after all a journey
We’re just skin and bones
The answers come in adventures
Just like Indiana Jones

So buckle up for impact
I’m headed on down the road
Expect the unexpected
When you’ve spun out of control

Life comes with experience
Not writing words in poems
It’s time I dusted off my old blue jeans
And put on some fresh clean clothes

It may go horribly wrong
I might get fully exposed
But giving up is no solution
If you weigh the cons and pros.

It’s time I faced the music
Stepped out from my safe zone
Engaged in life and spread the joy
Of a time I used to know
