A speckle of joy
Calm and content
Neither boys nor the soldier
Has the time to reflect
A spot of color
The innocence portrayed
The lack of combatants
And stressful delays
Only polite conversation
Would describe this best
No homework in this class
Just a bullet proof vest
‪Just a simple moment ‬
‪That any two can share‬
‪Just a subtle notion‬
‪To let you know they care‬
‪Be it a friendly gesture ‬
‪Or a spoken word of praise‬
‪Can span the entire test of time‬
‪Just from uttering a phrase‬
‪Be kind, and give from the heart
Let us stand together
Even though we are apart
Inspired by a soldier overseas in full gear, handing an Arabic child a red ball which in turn, inspired me to write this piece
The suns heat warms my face
You know the words I speak
The feeling of warmth and home
In fields of corn and wheat
Can you adapt after being
Vacuum packed
Is your brain only a snack
For the critics to attack
And when you’re gone
Beyond my door
Will you stay gone forevermore
And if you close yours eyes a second more
Will you return to shake my core
Or cheat the game and change the score
Someone to alleviate the pain

lots of records to maintain

Side by side, the
doctors aid

No reason now to be afraid

Nurses do so many things

It’s almost as if a nurse has wings

That flys around in scrubs and mask

Checking in and running tasks

Eager to do whatever they’re asked

An angel of sorts and their importance unmatched
Searching in the distance
For a sign or subtle clue
This mermaid panders outwardly
Seeking out her proof
The existence of a two legged man
Or so the tales been told
A story she’s heard for years and years
Since she was three years old
A young girl and her tutu
Class this afternoon
Dreaming of a pirouette
Lightness and aloof
Performing a ballon
On center stage
Dancing for invisible onlookers
In a crowded room
Aspiring to take flight
Graceful as a arabesque
Dreaming of the day
She’ll one day pass the test
