Rage
There is a rage that’s festering inside me
A rage so close to despair
Had I known it would be to my detriment
I would’ve been more prepared

I did not see it coming
It’s been hidden for so many years
Now it’s trying to resurface
It really grinds my gears

I do not get along with my demons
A sighting of one is quite rare
Mine is staring back at me
Unforgiving and unfair

He hits me, he hurts me
He’s always right there
But despite all of my complaining
I think we make a real good pair
I’m in the fight of my life
A battle of wrong and right
To win, I’m going to need help
It’s a battle between me and myself

The good news is that I’m winning
The bad news, it’s only the beginning
I’ve reached a high plateau
That no one but me knows
If and when you’re told, your head would soon explode

I stay quite, so no one will hear
The sound of my greatest fears
Forgiveness for all that I’ve done
Hand holding the **** of a gun

I’ve survived and learned to adapt
No longer am I under attack
My destain for myself
Has been put on a shelf

And now I live in harmony
At peace with my inner soul
A chance to move on forward
With what we reap and sow
I’m the lonely one in this story
Pound for pound seeking out glory

Searched as far as the eye can see
I’ve been living a lie, stuck in misery
Yet, I still hold my hands in victory

I close my eyes and I can dream
Of a place where you and I can be
I found the clue to solve the mystery
Whatever it takes to be free

I am only one
A servant to the sun
I cannot lose you see,
Because I’ve already won
It was over before it begun

Sought and found
The golden crown
Foot to ground
Now homeward bound

It’s everything I hoped and dreamed
With what was filth, is now clean
Often lost, can now be seen
Abideing by an old routine

Where there’s hope
Caught in between
Matters not, which way we lean
Rediscovered

Tinkering with this and that
Rediscovered in seconds flat
Where you are is where you’re at
Open fire, please stand back

Gathered in a creepy shed
Thunderstorms, heaven sent
The students need to be led
By the hand so they don’t get wet

Out of the cold, safe and warm
Like the day that they were born
Rise and shine, go explore
What you’ll find?
I’m not quite sure.
Just a grain of sand
A tiny speck of dust
Is that all we are?
Are we out of touch?

To infinity, and beyond
An endless streak of black
Little green men on mars
Huddled in a pack

Endless, eternity
Those who dare to dream
Scoured through the universe
Into a sea of green

Heads up in the clouds
Floating high above
Having many doubts
In the thing that we call love

Strange and so mysterious
Even stranger than it seems
I want you here beside me
My goal to be achieved

Hand in hand forever
Forever and a day
Through any storm or weather
Or sky from blue to grey

Running to take cover
The rain so cold and wet
My one and only lover
No need to be upset

I will keep you warm
Through the days and nights
We’ll weather any storm together
Not scared of taking flight

With you by my side
How lucky I must be
Taken all in stride
Spoken tongue in cheek

Together through the galaxy
Steady as can be
You’ve become my ecstasy
As far as eyes can see
I met a girl at the market
Near the frozen foods
She reached into her pocket
She said she had some news

She tells me she likes roses
She speaks of things not real
She’s seems to be dramatic
But she’s got *** appeal

I ask her for her number
She asks me for a pen
Just tell me what the digits are
I’ll remember it in my head

After our encounter
I headed back to home
I got to fantasizing
What the future holds

I spoke to her this morning
We finally set a date
To meet out for some coffee
At the local neighborhood cafe

She was tentative at first,
She finally agreed
I picked her up at seven
In a limousine

She seemed to be befuddled
As to what was going on
I handed her some roses
Then told her to c’mon

We went and had a real good time
Her smile was infectious
When it was time for us to leave
I asked for her attention

I reached to kiss her on the cheek
It was then she started blushing
A simple kiss that’s all I ask
Our lips together touching

She agreed and so we kissed
Things started to get heated
It was then she bit my lip
Something I wish were not repeated

I took her home and said goodbye
Thanked her for a real good time
She said I’ll see you soon I guess
Maybe for some wine

She stole my heart
She robbed me blind
Inside my chest
You could not find
A heart that’s beating
overtime
He started down the corridor
Daylight, so he could see
Was he a crazed lunatic
Living out his dream?

Where could they go when shots were fired
Had a life to live, now has gone expired
This whole scene has gotten old and tired
Heroes at the scene
I am kept reminded

A vigil for the people,
Lives ended way too soon
Hiding under furniture
That’s set about the room
Waiting, and frightened
The children in the school
Hunkered down in terror
while a killers’ on the loose

Violence, defiance
Held by safeties grasp
Set off the alarms
To a somber aftermath

Seventeen dead,
Seventeen lives
Taken away
Bullets did fly

The crime of all crimes
Waged war on our youth
Not a single turned head
Shielding by the truth

Must we wait and see
Will it ever end
Guns on every street
Guns in every hand

Laws are not set in stone
Changes must be made
A backpack and an apple
Are no match for hand grenades.
I attended  Marjorie Stoneman Douglas high school. This act of violence was way too close to home.
