Fishing With Moonbeams
James M Vines May 2017
Tying a silver cord from the lesser light, I cast the line towards a distant star but catch a comet by the tail. It pulls me up as I grab a mountain top to hold on to the earth. I am drawn into the celestial realm as the catch seeks to get away. I feel the line go taught behind me as the man in the moon pulls on the silver twine. Together we haul in the shooting star and decide it is not quiet big enough to keep, so we let it sail on it's way. Now as I sit with the man in the moon, I wonder just how I will get back home?

The Rough Side of Life
James M Vines Apr 2017
Born into reality and not prosperity, I grappled with the circumstances that surrounded me. Disadvantage was my native tongue and necessity was my teacher in the school of hard nocks. I earned my diploma at a young age and became street wise. Survival was the only way of life I knew, until I was older and had earned many battle scars. Now I am not sure if I am better or worse for what I had to go through. I only know that I wasn't born with a silver spoon and the only way that I will ever grab a brass ring is to likely steal one.

Southern Jasmine
James M Vines Apr 2017
On a cobblestone street in a quiet part of Savannah the rain cleanses away the dust and opens up the senses. When I walk down the old path, I smell the fragrant scent of Jasmine after the spring rains. Memories rush back to better days and to light hearted times where love was not a stranger to me. When a special person held my heart before she gave it away. To be caught in the moment with the scent of youthful joy only comes when the southern Jasmine gives remembrance to me.

To Call Upon His Name
James M Vines Apr 2017
When the world makes no sense, we call upon his name. When we are frustrated and feel defeated, we call upon his name. When we lack the answers, we call upon his name. When our enemies seem to be winning, we call upon his name. When the darkness surrounds us, we call upon his name. Oh what a privilege it is to call upon Jesus name.

To Know I am Alive.
James M Vines Apr 2017
Shaved ice falls down upon me as blue streaks melt out of my hair. The sea thunders on rocks that form a jetty and I walk in silence with nary a care. The heat of the sun seems unbearable to some, but it makes me feel alive. Though the heat can be torturous to some, it keeps me sane. The board walk gets hot and burns my feet, but it is just another reminder that I am real. These days I need much more of that than usual , if it is only pain, I am just glad I can still feel something.

Dinner Without You
James M Vines Apr 2017
I stare at an empty chair though the place has been set. I long to hear the clink of your fork and spoon. I miss how you mash up your food and make me so crazy. Eating is not the same when your away. So finish what you have to do and put your slippers on, an empty seat awaits you. Eating as one is just not any fun. I just don't enjoy eating without you.

How to Love Me
James M Vines Apr 2017
Hold my heart gently and do not let it fall. Tell me how much you need me each and everyday. Stand between me and the fury of the storm and comfort me when I have lost my way. Give me reassurance that things will turn out for the best. Confide in me your deepest desires and share with me all of your dream. Lift me up instead of tearing me down. Wipe away my tears and be willing to just listen sometimes. Understand my faults and accept me for who I am. Let me give love back to you and help you when I can.
Each of us is different, but we all need love. No person is an Island.

A Thousand Broken Mirrors
James M Vines Apr 2017
Reality lies fractured around me, the world has gone into a spiral of madness. No matter I look, the reflection looks back at me through the eyes of insanity. I walk barefoot on the shards of a thousand broken mirrors as I try to find the reflection that is my true self.

The Red Box
James M Vines Apr 2017
Square and deep and made of wood, a place where my toys were kept. To be sat on or a platform from which to speak to my audience of loyal subjects who sat quietly where I had placed them. A stumbling block when I was half awake in the wee hours of the morning. A place to have a meal with a four legged friend. I place to kneel upon when I needed to pray. A simple red toy box was many things to me.

Precious are the Thorns
James M Vines Apr 2017
A crown adorns the head of the fallen body, broken and shattered for our sins. A crown of pain becomes a symbol of redemption drenched in innocent blood. So that which ****** and cuts, now has become a holy thing. Precious are the thorns that pricked the Rose of Sharon that bled for all our sins.

The Scent of Things
James M Vines Apr 2017
Blossoms release perfume into the air and the rain leaves the trees with the scent of spring. The wet earth is dank and feels cool between your toes. The water sitting idle in the tall grasses of a slow flowing stream fills the air with the smell of the old and new as things decompose and grow. The senses are delighted and challenged by diversions of all things being new, then with the change of seasons the world changes again. With each experience there are new things to be enjoyed. The scent of the world and things that are alive and changing, even when we do not realize it is happening around us.

Prose Please Set Me Free
James M Vines Apr 2017
Oh emotions that bind my tongue please remove the ties that hinder me. Oh blinding sorrow that grieves my soul, steady my pen that I may give life to my words. Oh prose please set me free.

Twisted Inside
James M Vines Apr 2017
The forces of life turn me inside out while the sun and moon look on as witnesses with glee. The birds swirl around my head as I swoon for lack of reprieve from my grief. I feel as though there are magnets in my feet as I try to stand, only to fall over and over again. Up and down I go in a torrent of emotion as the cosmos takes sadistic pleasure in my torment. I look for solid ground upon which to stand but I still cannot pull back in my emotions, so I simply collapse and succumb to the pain of lost love as I am left to writhe in pain at your feet.

Fight on Bended Knees
James M Vines Apr 2017
When the armies of darkness surround you and the strongholds are built against you, do not surrender to the enemy. Bolster your soul and fall before the alter with the cross that you were chosen to bear. In solemn humble prayer, you can overcome what ever the enemy may dare, for you will be enjoined to God when you seek him there.
James M Vines Apr 2017
When the crowds have abandoned you and friends have turned their back on you. When your family has no answers for you and the knowledge of man has failed, there is a place where help can be found. In the words of wisdom not given of the souls of me, but from one who understands what you are going through. Christ will be there and he will understand, for what ever you think you are going through, you are not alone. He was there before you and knows what it takes when the world is not enough.

What is Beauty
James M Vines Apr 2017
What is in the eye of the beholder, is it true beauty. What is acceptably pleasing to the senses? Who can define what is pleasant to look at or to be around. Does one sense define beauty over the other. If something is pleasing to see but contains filth, then is it truly beautiful? How can true beauty be defined by the mortal when each of us views a thing differently. So can anyone of truly say what beauty is?

History's Scars
James M Vines Apr 2017
The landscape may seem serene but the wounds have just been scarred over. The truth lies just beneath the surface and is still divisive. Though new generations come along, people still feel unsettled. The lessons of the past are ignored by some and the old hatreds fester like a disease. Until we cut away the rancid flesh of hatred from the present and truly embrace the lessons of the past. The old scars will never truly heal.

Tears in the Garden
James M Vines Apr 2017
In the garden he wept sorely. In the garden he cried alone. In the garden he wept for you and me. In the garden, he cried in anguish for another way. In the garden, he wept until they came for him. In the garden, cried father let it end. In the garden he shed his tears until he shed his blood. In the garden he wept to fulfill the will of God.

Hiding Away
James M Vines Apr 2017
Wrapped up in blankets on a cold and rainy day, I open a good book and hold hot coco. I get lost in the pages of another world than the one I am in. I travel to distant places and undertake amazing adventures, all of the while the rain falls outside and the dark clouds hide the sun. I am content hiding away in a cozy get away of my own design.

I Saw a Rainbow
James M Vines Apr 2017
I lay down to sleep and I found myself on a cloud, I was looking down and I was proud. I saw men and women joining hand in hand. I saw the different races from across the lands. Each one was lending a hand and offering help where they could. The line of people stretched from horizon to horizon and made a rainbow. I suddenly awoke from my dream and realized the thing I had seen, if I take another person hand and we join together to help out and make a stand, then what I dreamed will be a reality. I saw a rainbow of hope that starts with me.

We are Humanity
James M Vines Apr 2017
The world is round but some of us are square pegs, that doesn't mean that we do not fit somewhere. Despite our differences, we are all of the same fabric. We are all born in the same way and all have the same needs. We are taught what we know and often are close minded, but in the end we are all part of the same humanity.
James M Vines Apr 2017
A time is appointed when all that is broken shall be mended. The stone that was rejected shall become the head of the corner of the building. The beams that were left out will stand upon the stone foundation and hold up the building of creation. In one day all will be made right, when the nail scarred hands of the master builder that is to come makes the repairs that we cannot.

Life is a spark then a light then a bit of smoke. In between these moments is when we truly are meant to live. What we do will define us for an eternity. The Left Overs of War
James M Vines Apr 2017
Grown ups fight over what children do not understand. Soccer ***** cannot be played with because land mines are strewn across their fields. Those who are older think they know what is best. They yell and scream at each other then send the young to die for nothing. When the dust settles and the smoke clears and the land is torn apart, the motherless and fatherless are left in abundance. They roam the streets and play in garbage to pass the time of day. They huddle together to keep warm and safe. The older ones try to help the younger ones with little in the way of knowing how. They can only emulate what they have seen and that seem wrong somehow. So to break the cycle of depravity, we must all yell stop. The masses must simply sit down and say enough. When the grownups become idle and bring governments to their knees, only then will we begin to build more soccer fields and farms. Then perhaps there will be families instead of broken children left over from fighting that didn't solve anything.

Cyber Future
James M Vines Apr 2017
Someday the spirit will be set free from the physical body. It will fly free in an infinite new universe. With the human mind connected to machines, the internet will become reality. You will not have to shoot for the stars, when you can explore a cyber world of your own making. Anything will be possible as we travel at the speed of light, passing on ideas and communicating with thought alone. Borders will be forgotten and walls will be torn down. We will be able to look into the ideas of another from their electronic eyes. No more will we be constrained by governments or laws of prohibition passed by dictators and despots. We will finally be free to build upon the blocks of knowledge that have been lain down for us and to be able to create things not even imagined as of yet.
The hatred of the past and mistrust of nations cannot stop the next generation from overcoming their arcane ideals to be set free in a new and wonderful world.

Expectation
James M Vines Apr 2017
Just as a child awaits the birthday and presents that they know will come, so I look forward to tomorrow. While violence swirls around the globe and uncertainty fills the airwaves, miracles are coming alive all around us. Where the crippled once could not walk, now they can receive new limbs. Where the deaf could not hear, now sounds are being given back to them. Where disease once ran amok, now new discoveries are healing the sick. When we once stood in awe of the stars above us, soon we will be visiting them. For all of the doubt that is forced upon us, the best of what we are can still rise above the fray. Our expectations should be for our future and not trapped in the here and now, as we all hope for a brighter day.

When the stars fall from the heavens and the final curtain is drawn. The skies will part and roll back like a scroll. The veil between worlds will be torn into. All will see the truth that has been hiding in plain sight. To those for whom death holds fear, their dread will have come true, but for those who have accepted life, there will be much to do. In a moment and a twinkling of an eye, the whole universe will change. What to some is the end, will to others be the beginning.

Iron battle horses
James M Vines Apr 2017
Wheels tracks and long guns covered by drab paint. Roaring with the sound of thunder as they clank along their way. Spewing forth fire and lead as they drive fear into the hearts of men. Across broken fields cut with furrows then fertilized with blood. Yet no crops are planted ,only The Souls of mortal men. See the Riders hidden Within told to go forth as Angry Men. Driven to wage war against their brother to cause grief and sorrow to father and mother. Now comes there fiery end as dragons breaths break. For Thunderbolt spiral down upon them as if to fall from Olympus Great Heights. So the iron cages of War become tombs and coffins for those that lie Within. So at lasts all that is left is death in burning fiery Graves of metal wrapped around the lives of the men that went forward in the iron horses of War.

James M Vines Apr 2017
When the darkness falls and the shades of evening surround me, I will consider his word and steadfastly meditate upon it. When the cold of the night cuts through me, I will seek out his wisdom and his spirit to comfort me. When all of the Start Fall
James M Vines Apr 2017
The jewels of the heaven have grown dim and they no longer twinkle. The desire to wish has gone and the world has lost it's desire to look skyward. Hope and child like wonder have disappeared and has been replaced with worry and mistrust. The first star to the right and straight on until morning no longer leads to never land. The Southern Cross and the North Star are no longer true guides. So as the lights of the heaven dim and reality begins to skip a beat, what will we wonder when all of the stars start to fall?

The Door of Knowledge
James M Vines Apr 2017
Whizz, whir and buzz the computer came alive. The internet was born and the doors were opened. Pathways were now available that were not there before and knowledge's door was open wide for all to walk through. For good or ill, the genie is out of the bottle and what we do with it is up to us. For some it is a weapon or a thing for malicious intent, but for many it is hope and the breathe of life. The chains of oppression are broken when free and unfettered knowledge is allowed to be exchanged. A brave new world was shaped the day the internet was born and life as we knew it will never be the same.

Gods Farmer
James M Vines Apr 2017
I have walked across dusty fields and have broken hard and rocky ground. I have toiled under the burning sun and have never seen a harvest. I open up paths and plant a few seed here and there, then I move on to the next patch of ground. My hands are fixed to the plow and I cannot turn back. I have taken on the task and I must follow it to the end. Though in the present I will not know what comes behind me, a time will come when I will see the work I have done. When my last furrow is cut and I lay the yoke of the plow down, I will wipe away the dust of life's journey. I will then see the workers laboring in the fields behind me, reaping from what I have sewn when God says its harvest time.

Stick me with a pin and roll me around to make sure I am cold. Shed no tears for me, but throw me a party. Call all of my friends and spend what I have left you. Celebrate who I was for now I am gone. Remember me fondly and try not to over do it. I would like to see you again, just not that soon. So let the music play and let your heart be glad. I have lived my life and now when it is said and done. Let all who care to throw a wake for me and wish me well now that I have moved on.

To draw in a net of righteousness is to understand the first order of mercy. Service above all else is the command for our commission upon the sea of souls that long to know freedom. We set sail on a journey and want to set an example, but we are cast adrift from our true course. The cares and worries that we carry inside of us are often too great to bear on our own, so we must return to the place where we were found and learn how to mend our nets. By following the lessons of the master fisher, we will regain the control of our ship and right our course. Thus we will draw in our nets filled with souls yearning to hear the truth and to be set free from the ******* of the ocean of sin.

The Worn Out Shoes
James M Vines Apr 2017
At a quiet street market in a dust party of town, I saw an old vender selling odds and ends. I stopped to look at his wares and I saw that he had shoes, I picked up a pair of sandals and he asked do you like those my friend? I consider them for a moment then asked if I could try them on, he smiled and said I could. I pulled off my shoes and slipped my feet into the sandals, they fit just right for my size. All of a sudden, I was not on the street with the vendor, but I was walking far away, behind me were 12 men. I looked at a seashore and then I saw a crowd before me and I felt the ocean spray hit my face. I saw myself in a temple holding an ancient paper and reading out loud to men who hated me. In one moment I was taken for a journey and I never left the street where I stood. As I came to my senses, I looked at the vendor, and he asked me do you want the shoes my friend? I left my shoes where the sandals had been and I said I would take them. I started to pay him and he said there was no need. He said that the shoes were quiet worn, but they would work for what I needed and I quietly went on my way. As I walked along I noticed that people began to stare at me and I stopped and began to speak. As I talked people listened and stood there completely amazed, and wondered who I was and where I was from. It was then I realized where the sandals had been and to whom they belonged and what I had become.
Destiny, faith, awakening and understanding.
