We all breathe the same
In whatever way we choose
Dancing to the beats
Of drummers, different in most cases
But breathe just the same

Sometimes we talk
Different mouths, different voices
Still it can ring badly on another’s ears
Complaining, questioning, whining
When all we want is to be understood

Often we fall, hard to the ground
Hardly at all to those passing by
Staring at this writhing body
On the sidewalk of broken dreams
Just waiting to be kicked once more

At times we love
Perhaps too much it seems
Different hearts, different beats, different drummers (again)
Brandishing hope as that marching band
With the new drum major breaks our will

Then we die
Not unlike other’s before us
Lying in a wooden box
Mourners stare exhaling sadly or happily
As they still breathe…in whatever way they choose

I play my guitar

I play my guitar,
crying in sevens
on a lonely cold morning
with the rain falling down

Sorrowful chords,
on the strings of emotion
in a three quarter tear drop
where sadness is found

And the storm clouds they form
                    on the edge of tomorrow
                    with my thoughts ever yearning
                    for you in my arms

Now a chill finds my heart,
it is empty and hollow
I play my guitar
and there isn’t a sound

I read your poetry
and I am taken away
to a place where my childhood waits

Those sunny summer days
when life was easy,
and pressure was only a word taught in school

I feel weightless,
as if I can fly
and your words are my wings

You tug at my heart,
tempt my senses
and touch me in ways I have not felt before

I read your poetry
and it is as if
I am talking to a long lost friend

Catching up on good times,
crying tears with you
and sharing every smile

Walking long paths,
waving good morning to each sunrise
and good night when it sets

Dancing in moonbeams
and counting shadows,
which always add up to two

I read your poetry
and I am in awe
of your amazing talent

and I think maybe I should
just put down my pen, for yours
*is all the poetry I will ever need

I see…the sun
on the horizon
The moon
upon the night

The flowers
in the garden
So lovely
and so bright

The birds
among the branches
The fish
in every sea

But none
shall bring the beauty,
your love
it brings to me

I see…the mountains
so majestic
The grasses
on the hill

A snowy
winter morning
That brings
a wondrous chill

A little baby
laughing
Its smile
ever free

But none
shall bring the beauty,
your love
it brings to me

I see…the skies
so blue, inviting
A small
secluded shore

Along a
tiny island
The scenery
so pure

A shady spot
for resting
Beneath
a maple tree

But none
shall bring the beauty,
your love
it brings to me

I cast my eyes towards the sun,
beyond the darkened fence, the fielded midnight thoughts,
watching, through clouded images, knowing eventually
I will witness the birth of a new day

I reach with my smile in a curved line
seeking a destiny still unknown but written
in verses of future phrases,
which will come to pass…in multi-colored inks of affection

I send my heart on waves of scented mist,
collected from the corners of my world,
flowing free from silent words and favored gestures
of desire’s endless intentions

I hand my love to nature, freely, willingly…
so that it may be delivered amidst
blooming jasmine and truer promises…to you,
before another dawn’s light finds your beauty and you awake

I cast my eyes towards the sun…yet I seek not its light,
nor its warmth…for all I seek is you

There’s a meadow in the distance
Golden grains upon the land
Such an effervescent morning
As we walk there hand in hand

In the trees the birds are singing
Sunny skies play up above
There’s a meadow in the distance
I shall go there with my love

There’s a river by a mountain
Waters blue and crystal clear
So refreshing is its beauty
O’ the sound we love to hear

Upon it glistens soft reflections
Of the bluest skies above
There’s a river by a mountain
I shall go there with my love

There are horses in the pasture
Frolicking this perfect day
So majestic in their stature
As they run the fields at play

In the air their manes are flowing
Cool the breezes from above
There are horses in the pasture
I shall go there with my love

There’s a garden filled with flowers
O’ the fragrance soft and pure
Perfect blossoms for the picking
Where we could not ask for more

All the colors of a rainbow
Streaming through the sky above
There’s a garden filled with flowers
I shall go there with my love

There’s a future that is waiting
Where the days are ever bright
And forever it is springtime
Every scene a perfect sight

Where the nights are heaven's answer
Neath the wondrous moon above
There’s a future that is waiting
I shall go there with my love

Is there a sun
for I can not see
this blackened existence
unleashed poetry
collections of nothing
bounded by fear
entering slowly
why am I here
dragging the ballast
stem upon stem
kept locked inside
threatened again
cast thee thy words
hatred out paced
walls tiled stone
that I have faced
yet I am alive
behind what I wear
frowns of the winter
chilled as the air
rust on these chains
weakens the hold
drains of the silver
weeps in the gold
yet here I stand
eternally
is there a sun
for I can not see

I understand,
as I stare into the sun
hoping to be blinded,
so that I can
no longer see,
but clouds form
and they are dark,
collecting in the corners
of my heart
which is
slowly breaking
with the dawning
of this that
I understand...

and I wish I didn't

This is just another night
Lonely streets and flashing neon
Shadows moving, no eye contact
Brick facades push away steam

Walking softly on dampened sidewalks
Head hung low wondering
Why this feeling continues, this crawl
Lost within the halls of my heart

Broken lines with no exit
Foreclosed affection in headlines
Written on the palm of my hand
Smearing in tear drops wiped

Yesterday was like a dream
You were mine, smiling, laughing
Sharing a day at the park on a painted bench
Watching silent paddle boats sleep

A March sun glistened on still waters
And birds sung softly overhead
When something was off, out of place… pieces
Our silhouettes slowly faded to one

Watching my sneakers form ruts
Swinging nervously back to front
Kicking dust up in my stomach
Where butterflies change to stone

Waiting for you, a setting sun
Flamed drizzling on my shoulders
Slumped reflections on a westward sky
As I still search to the east

Yes, this is just another night
Followed by just another day
An agonizing repetitive pattern
My always…without you

Here I rest on this soft shoulder of desire,

Cantilever wishing wells
Long about the winding path
Clover is the foot print maker
Sunlight brings a hearty laugh

Skies will whisper if you listen
Music plays upon the field
Breezes blow the horns of springtime
Blooms atop blue mountain yield

Dragonflies will touch your senses
Wings align the ancient trees
Branches filled of moss that’s clinging
Birds and now the buzzing bees

Come let’s walk in rows of promise
Take me by the waiting hand
This may be a dream we’re having
Sitting in this wonderland

Still if we would stand awakened
Leaving sheets and shoes behind
There’s no telling what will greet us
When we let our thoughts unwind

For you see we are the answer
If the two of us agree
There is nothing more we’re seeking

Standing before the microphone
Blank faces stare from cushioned chairs
Jewels sparkle, acting like they’re real
While bow ties just seem sad…it happens

Marching to the beat of clicking heels
Unbuttoned vests as strange eclipsed spotlights
Illumine smoke swirls in overhead rafters
Flowing from my ember’d fingertips

And my hair is a mess…but it always is
And I don’t care…do you?
I’d clear my throat but that does no good
Gravel has taken up residence…it pays the rent

The room goes dim, the audience worries
Glares spark like steel on asphalt
I can see them clear, slowly fading in anxious doubt
Scratching on some ink pad and dusty sheets…ideas

Yet I love you, I love everything that is you
Need surpasses desire, and I need
My arms long to cling you, crushed against me
Breathing as one, harmonious breath…thoughts…they come

The bass player plucks and that is my cue
Flicking my ashes I begin to read…poetry
And the audience smiles…I am a poet and poetry is cool
Leonard Cohen was right
I brought this back from the vault

Within the raindrops calling,
to believe this message true
Now drenching from the skies above,
my every dream of you

To carry me along my way,
wherever I may go
Clouds may gather overhead,
still I love you so

The sun has gone to hiding,
I stand here unafraid
For love shall paint this dreary view
and bring it back today

No matter what the weather
I dance among the rain
As hours turn to minutes,
to hold you close again

I splash amongst the puddles
which form along the street
I swim in the affection of
this love you send to me

Now shouting to the heavens
between the drops above
Bring upon me what you will
for I have found her love

Lightning bolts nor thunder
shall my heart deter
Living for each moment
I now spend with her

So bring your scattered showers,
your wind so laced with chill
For her love lives within my heart
and it forever will

Caress my neck softly
Hold my body close to yours
Tempt these sweet chord progressions
Acoustic affection’d freestyle
Finger my frets with delicate touches
Mother of pearl inlays sweat
Bending vibrating strings
Crank my volume **** high
Sliding capos moan
Play lead in poetic rifts
Soundhole oozes sensual melodies
Gouging pickguard’s scars
Tune me in the key of your love
Strum me hard…

Let’s make beautiful music together

Life can be so hard

Stained by the illusion
Comets in my hair
Pardon the intrusion
Is anybody there

Stuck alone and reading
Words upon the page
Everyone is bleeding
Prancing on the stage

Masters of invention
Coupled up by none
Questioning intention
When the day is done

Dreams along the ocean
Beaches white with fear
Such a silly notion
Waves can shed a tear

Footprints left to wander
Washed out by the tide
Memories I ponder
Time to run and hide

Still you keep on looking
There upon your seat
Shouldn’t you be cooking
Something very sweet

I can’t stand this feeling
Waiting by the door
Moments time is stealing
Couldn’t ask for more

Just send me a greeting
Not some Hallmark card
Or I’ll run retreating
Life can be so hard

Crooked pathways
twisting and turning
through sarcastic shadows
and broken branch detours
draining every desire

Climbing mountains, daily inclines
sapping strength
in challenges formed
of uphill battles
in a losing war

Following stagnant streams
flooded with teardrops
raining on every parade
of drenched floats with
soggy paper flowers

Blinded by the sun
wishing for white clouds
that only hover much darker
than those lonely nights
with no moon to hold you

Or lonely highways
of dotted line decisions
changing lanes
hoping for an exit
but finding a dead end...

Know that there will be a light
glowing of a caring heart
beaming brightly, illuminating the way
in every fog riddled alleyway
you may wander, for…

Wherever life leads you
no matter what you may face
obstacles that might present themselves
I will travel this journey with you…
you will never be alone
A poetic promise

I’m imprisoned by your love,
I hope I’m never released
Jack Jul 2014
Caught within a nightmare deep
Broken chains of sad regret
Locked behind these bars of steel
Darkness every corner wept

Walls of stone now caving in
Running at a quicker pace
Drowning in the stench of fear
Lies I wish I could erase

Only but a tiny light
Shines beyond this cavern long
Hope defies my every view
How could one man be so wrong?

On my knees of shredded flesh
Pleading words on weary breath
One more chance I beg this day
Or this end shall be my death

Falling fast and fading far
Pain collects my shattered mass
In a heap my world does lay
Waiting for this life to pass

When a hand appears my sight
Gentle as a fluttered wing
Upon a breeze of whispered air
Warm as any day of spring

Then your perfect face I see
“I’m sorry,” cries my truthful word
“I forgive you” floats my way
The sweetest sound I’ve ever heard

Joy does calm my beating heart
Lifted now I stand so free
Every prayer my mind had found
Answered when you came to me

Lead me for I follow you
Take me from this desperate scene
End this nightmare born in hell
So I may live within your dream

Layers upon layers,
flaking residue...
scraping at the inner walls of my heart,
priming the ruins of my disassembled dreams while
masking off all hope of bleeding out or bleeding on

“Dare I bleed in the color of missing you?”

Scratches filled in with crayon,
vacant hues...
only on or outside of the lines of love
Woeful stick figures dancing to a lonely song,
played by the empty roller lashed to my hand

“Would you dare touch my handprints....smear them?”

Minutes take hours to pass, but who cares,
Que Sera Sera...
the old Zenith finds Doris Day happy,
nice someone can be
stirring a smile within a gallon of semi-(g)loss

“Why is the sale brand in barren tones?”

I cringe at the thought of another moment in this position,
base boards...
bent over and touching up,
flat lining without an edge,
waiting for your touch, your tinted smile...waiting your approval

Golden soft, rays a’ fleeting filter,
pristine light through branches does sift
Along a peach grove corridor
and dirt road dreams of scattered dust

I sit and watch the day unfolding,
hot,  the cup my hand now holds
Tiny sips of morning flavors sing
as I long for the miles to disappear

Beyond blue skies calling out to me
from northern horizons with voices melodic
Bringing the music of your heart

feel your touch of dawning desire
and stare off quietly to where I’d rather be…

A dark shape
dauntingly blows around
as I lie in a fetal position
watching the smoke
from a once raging fire long spent
reaching for the sky

One lone ember barely glowing
remains, gasping for oxygen,
fading by the second
until it is nothing more
than a bit of ash
scattered easily by the wind

I was that fire
once raging
and the ember my heart,
now merely a dark shape
dauntingly blowing around
what used to be me

Crimson clover round the bend
Parted of a sorrowed tool
Planting phrase on what is said
Who now stands the empty fool

In this garden, sheer delight
Wilted from the summer heat
Fenced in by a stone of white
Destined to be incomplete

Oh the beauty it hath lost
When your eyes did cast away
Counting change amidst the cost
Of this bloom now gone astray

On this bench of marble form
Headless statues bid adieu
I shall sit her in the storm
Clinging to the thought of you

For this rain shall find my weep
Fills the puddles of despair
Deep within their hollows keep
Nothing less that I’m aware

Loneliness, this garden seed
Found of hedges twist and turn
Taken from the soiled need
Am I ever soon to learn

Here behind an iron gate
Draped in vines so long now dead
Brittle touches prove too late
Of the love my heart has bled

As the sun does set the field
Now as darkness comes to play
Time I find my fate is sealed
Lonely gardens I will stay

Looped of love

Cast upon a sea of symphonic scent
Cashmere soft and storm cloud kissed
Ventures forth on fingered strings
Spent alone in shuttered mist

“Curtains drawn in crayon colors…stitched on gold locket seams”

Worn of worries, frayed edges weave
Reaching deep into heart felt fear
Bland the noise, served in muted tones
Staring off to nowhere…near

“Tears now fill thy cup…once overflowing in melodic dreams”

Broken desires, a tangled spun web
Knotted by a lingering memory’s hold
Skin still warm of tanned defiance
Fractures locked out in the cold

“Heaved in piles of shoveled excess…soon to be forgotten silent on the street”

Music floods into porous caverns
Echoing a fragrant caring song
On syncopated bar chord promises
To hold you with arms forever strong

*“And I play for you in the key of my heart…looped of love in constant repeat”

Lost without direction

Empty as that crumbled pack of Marlboro lights on the ground

Lonely, a single towel on the line to dry…in the rain

Wasted like left over pudding in the sink strainer

Shredded, an unimportant document in the wrong stack

Destroyed in a crumbled mass of quivering stone

Crying beneath a flowing river rising

Torn apart, a ticket stub to a missed concert

Scared half to death with the other half waiting

Cowering within each breath I no longer want to take

Fractured like grandma’s Hummel found by a wagging dog’s tail

Dead, wearing a disguise of the living…and a poor one at that

Desperate to know that which I won’t

Lost without you

In the wake of this new morning
With its skyline dark of hue
Floating clouds conceal its warning
Still my mind is lost in you

Counted moments I am feeling
Laced with simple dreams to find
Of the endless breezes flowing
In the face of all this time

Distant footsteps find me walking
Drenched in fragrant sorted flow
Caught of patterns sweetly forming
Matters not where I may go

For your love my destination
Sits a’ wait atop the hill
Whispers call of my direction
For this wanting heart to fill

As the sun now greets me smiling
With its light so pure of feel
Casting shadows long and winding
In a silence soft and real

Thoughts do bring a glad sensation
When my eyes they see it true

Lost the key

I dance in desperate movements,
stepping on toes as I go
Spinning out of control as faces grimace in my wake,
changing scenery like mirrored ball illusions,
tiny reflective squares blinding as they move
Still you stare, questioning gazes,
not making eye contact
but sensing my heart through the song…
playing in steady repetition

Fingers in your ears for fear
that it might touch you
in rhythmic hypnosis, shining pendulums
swinging in reverse tempo, challenging these feelings
you hold but still can not admit the lyrics
Prideful walls of bricked fortitude
built around your emotions sing of
locked entryways and barred windows
and it seems I have lost the key

Misplaced along out of tune wavelengths
while pitchy corridors of doubt
fill in the shadows of this that I desire
Still I extend a hand, “would you care to dance?”
Dark eyes squint as you focus, looking beyond the bandstand,
finding mistakes of the past playing in three quarter time,
heading towards the stage door exit,
tapping your toe in cadence with the drummer
who now stops…along with the beat of my heart

Take my hand we’ll walk along
this winding path to somewhere far

Through evergreens, cool autumn winds
with cricket songs, and wishing stars

Twists and turns, soft pebbles tossed
in footprints left on sandy shores

Around the bend, down every lane,
you by my side, I need not more

Until we reach the mountain top,
where echoes flow on white cap frost

And we shall shout to all the world
*We are in love and we are lost…together
Prompted by a song sent to me by a good friend.

Lost within the fire

Lost within the fire
Burning deep inside
Raging like a river
Flames are going wild
Taking in the ashes
Embers at my right
Left to lost forgottens
On this lonesome night

Cower in the corner
Temperatures they rise
Can’t get any farther
Comes as no surprise
Smoke of inhalation
Crowded on the rail
Unknown acts of kindness
Now to surely fail

Pleaded anguished evenings
Hotter still it climbs
What was once a secret
Easy now to find
Take this heart on fire
Quench it with your love
Showers now are looming
Forming up above

Lift me from this feeling
Love me till the end
Tell me it will happen
One more time again
So it no longer lingers
Deep within my soul
Lost within the fire
That I can’t control

I step to the forefront of thought and desire
Placing my face to the wind
Calling in echoes, now flames to the fire
Once again now to begin

Needing this feeling that takes me away
Somewhere my heart it may sing
Forecasted sunshine my eyes it does play
Love is a wonderful thing

Can’t help believing that you feel it too
Even if words don’t agree
All that I am I shall be that for you
Found in these moments to see

Hoping you smile when thinking of this
Changing your sight to amend
Merely the touch of your enchanting kiss
My heart starts beating again

So here I wait as I stare to the skies
Filled with a magic so pure
Whispering softly in love filtered sighs
Only to hold you once more

Placed on a mantle, the ship torn and tattered
Its bottle long gone as it smashed to the floor
Shards of the memories swept and discarded
Tossed out to sea at the edge of the shore

The captain, a man of great means and stature
Stood at the helm till the storm it had passed
All but the crew warned of coming disaster
Seeing the clouds filled with darkness en mass

Rough were the waters, the flags were a waving
Violent the waves that did spill on the bow
Taller than buildings at rest on the homeland
Survival the quest even not knowing how

Deep was this ocean, despair on it surface
Blue as the night with no moon there to shine
Calling his name as he held to the railing
Wondering if this just might be his time

Flashes of long ago parted his memories
Regrets began flowing as if on their own
It would be different if he had the manner
Hindsight to tell him if only he’d known

Washed up on shore with the ringing so loudly
Felt for the earth as the tide did recede
Gasping for air as if none had existed
Tasting the salt of what he did believe

Burning of wounds that did cover his body
Ripples a’ sheen as the sun it did rise
Blurry his vision the focus he needed
Sent on this voyage of his own design

Running away seemed the answer to freedom
Hauntings of loss came to welcome him home
So far away did the scene seem much sweeter
Not on your life as he now stood alone

Back to his senses, this ship was his letter
Words he had written not ever to send
Caught in a down pour of flooded emotions
How could this happen to him once again

When out in the distance upon the horizon
A nacarat sky did call to his face
Turning attention to what had just happened
He noticed the path of his fears did erase

Calm placed its hand on the waters before him
Soft was the wind that did partner his breath
Sending a strength that before had been frozen
Causing the chill that half scared him to death

Smooth was the ocean, this ship very buoyant
Sails to the east took on air to their fill
Moving his ship to the edge of nirvana
Downhill the sailing a’ bridge of the hill

Peace did engulf every board that he strode
Lush came the vision of land at his stern
Caution now tossed to the winds of devotion
Using the lessons his life it did learn

Happy the ending though just the beginning
Spring brought the crocus atop of the earth
Smiling of daisies in form fitting fashion
Now was the day of his new found rebirth

There was no ship and there was no captain
Raging the seas but a figment of truth
Storm clouds ahead was to my own reaction
That was the chapter and I’ve found the proof

Merely a story with no complications
Telling the tale of my life once before
Tossing and turning till right side was down
Till the horizon placed you at my door

This strange adventure is how I was feeling
Lost in a world with no earthly delights
Cast to the corner and taken advantage
Until the day that you came to my life

As if the sun found my eyes so wide open
Warmed up my heart with a joy ever new
Embracing the touch that I now find does comfort
As of that day that our love came to view

Long were the years of my loneliest outlook
This day that time shall remain locked away
For as your love it does greet me each morning
Eternal my dreams will be born every day

So call me a captain, the world is my vessel
Sitting a’ port at the head of the gate
Love is my ocean so far everlasting
For now it hath brought me the perfect first mate
Sorry it is so long, I was bored and needed something to ocupy my time.  :)

Love - Lost

There was a time
it meant something to feel…
love

The sun shone bright

Counting heart beats
Dreaming of forever
Gazing into the wonder
Longing for each moment shared
together you and I

Then came the storm

Dark clouded misery
Cold windswept weeping
Blindly walking
Puddled desperation filling
vacant places you once stood

Now is the time
it means something to feel…
lost

Love me

Kiss me
For your lips are my desire
Touch me
Know my skin it does require
Hold me
Like you’ll never let me go
Love me
For you know I love you so
~
Squeeze me
With your arms so very tight
Tease me
With your beauty every night
Feel me
With your hands that I adore
Show me
That you couldn’t love me more
~
Thrill me
With your eyes of chocolate brown
Lift me
When I’ve fallen to the ground
Help me
When you know I’ve lost my way
Teach me
Of your love now everyday
~
Fill me
With your love so very warm
Save me
When I’m standing in a storm
Keep me
Ever closer to your side
Trust me
With the secrets you confide
~
Hear me
As I whisper in your ear
Find me
Ever wanting to be near
Tell me
You forever will be true
Love me
For I always will love you

Channeling dance steps on heart beat desires

Melodies drift in endless echoed whims

through the still valleys of our minds

Volumes of favorite pulled titles

vinyl placed orb’d grooves,

hold out their hands,

reaching for us

in memories

of days

gone

by

we

smile

and sway

to the rhythm

of this love we feel

Pure harmonic embrace

meets us on the dance floor

as our bodies touch and our eyes

fall deep within the sounds of affection

when we find were are one with the music

channeling dance steps on heart beat desires
Inspired by my sweet friend Paula's love of dancing.

Clouded scarves of winter skies
Woolen wings on tempered sighs
Nature wears her white disguise
Mounting on the field

Laced along the bitter cold
Futures that have been foretold
Endless phrases painted bold
And our lips are sealed

Frozen links of glistened feel
Piled deep as to conceal
Left alone in what is real
Bracing for the storm

Though inside a fire roars
With the one that I adore
Let it snow forever more
Love shall keep us warm

Ok, I know it's not winter yet...just getting ready for it.  :)
