Gather his things, don't mention his name
I'm afraid he's gone for a burton
Someone saw him go down in flames
He's not coming back that's for certain

There is no time for grieving now
We'll shut him out of our minds
Keep him in our memory though
In the hope of better times

Tomorrow a lad will take his place
Newly trained, freshly faced

We'll tell him everything's fine
In the desperate days of the Battle of Britain the RAF was fighting to maintain air superiority over the Luftwaffe. The comrades of missing airmen borrowed the phrase  "gone for a burton", which was the slogan to an advert for Burton's beer which featured a picture of an empty chair.  The phrase entered the language, and it was relatively recently that I discovered its derivation. Sadly it now seems to be slipping out of use.

Brycical
When the screaming void of humanity's barking fear
came around,
I used to shut the curtains
on my hazel windows,
and lock all seven doors,
waiting on the floor for it to go away.

In those moments of
racing breath and aching heart
I chose fear.

But  one day,
something shifted in me.
And on that day,
as the darkness fell upon my house
banging, barking, snarling, clawing,
piercing odious sounds vomiting all around...

I peaked out one of the windows.

It was me!
Sure I was a child
but it was me!

No longer shall I shun the dark,
but instead I choose love, inviting it inside with lights,
sharing sweet potatoes and kale dinners
alongside a campfire conversation
with a warm rose bath
and later we watch the dusk sky ignite.
We end our time with
a short prayer;

*All is Love.
It is,
We Are.
May you venture well into thought.

whiskey whispers
sound like you

a burning smokey river
-fire down below

kiss my fever

whiskey whispers-
get me through.

I see you sit expectantly biting lips
on the extended museum steps leading
to a veranda around the building, that invites
a flash mob,of your ilk, effervescent, to come together
perform and celebrate, nothing in particular,
except giving a shock pleasure to all those marked  "the other"

Once you made me believe, together we make a whole,
that is the story we live on I was told, I merely listened,
I and you missed few beats and steps here and there
find us now in pages different, why, even ages apart,

"What a fine specimen,!" a pacifist, I can't but appreciate
watching your elan. As if seeing an alien in my home ground,
I watch the spectacle, gulping down my discomfiture dutifully,
while you romance with much finesse,to the cell phone,
you cling on as if it's the beau you want to show off.

"Wouldn't she make a fine museum piece?"
that would point towards the life style,
that highlights only the moment present,
and constantly on the run to remain there,
while past vanishes and future becomes obscure more and more.

With a gentle smile for you to pick up, when you are at peace,
I move on; more than the museum pieces still living,
I am interested in  regular exhibits I easily grasp.
she wrings the morning
from her paint soaked dress, dreaming
dragonflies hover
becoming sunlight dancing
vast, her fields of flowers bloom
Adapting a previous piece (of the same name) to fit the tanka form.  Experimenting with something new.

Ghazal
My mister is so delusional,
Pompously ranting of forbidden flames,
And secret lovers.
Oh wait till I tell him with a bow
"Thy missus is dirtier than thou",
And watch his innocent face
Change a million colors.

Never dream. Plan.
Enjoy the way your future...
Smells. Sense it, then move towards
It without chasing
Anything.

Intend, and the rest will birth itself.
I've seen friends who failed every class
In high school get better jobs than
Us others ever dared
Aim for.

I've seen other friends abandon
******, fight every unmerciful
Second of withdrawal, day by
Day, and win.
Alone.

I've decided what kind of person
I want by my side as I move
Away from my last chapter and into
This. She's here
Now.

In solid love, I intend this to go on.
I hope it'll go on. God, I'm
Looking forward to this going on,
And on. And
On.

My will is my command.
I apparently know not
How to fail. The bigger picture
Is always
Biggest.

Defeat is an
Attitude.
Victory is
An
Attitude.
