On My Knees
Gloria Ikeji Nov 2016
Be careful
*** isn't for innocence
its not meant to be toyed with
the body is forsaken
but my hips enjoyed it
let me go to hell if
it means
loves sweet touch
would it be different
if i wasn't so pristine
i would rather be on my knees

sweet Mary Magdalene
touch didnt come free
for the price was paid
by gold and leftover
disease
woman of a city who was a sinner
Just in case people misinterpret it, just being sarcastic in explaining how people perceive *** based on a women or men.  And the negative connotations that comes with ***, such as a women who are sexually confident being a ****, but a men being a hero.

i have many thoughts in my head
but cant seem to put them together
the only poem i am able to write
is one about my inability to write
a poem right now

you told me this summer
that everyone leaves you
so i kept my promise to stay
by your side
leaves started falling from the autumn trees
each time to remind me
how much you gave up on me
now its a faint winter
and im trying to to understand
how people can leave you
as fast as seasons change

Acknowledge
Gloria Ikeji Sep 2013
I'm trying to love myself more.
I'm trying to remember
that my words have meaning
and my actions shake
the earth.
I'm trying to realize
that i am created
from love.
I'm trying to remember
to brag about myself,
tell silly stories about
my life
for maybe
someone out there would like
to listen to
what i have to say.
I'm trying to remember that

I am the hush noise
hidden in the air.
I am the waves crashing against
the rocks.
I am the laughs
shared.
I am the melody
of the birds flying high.
I'm trying to acknowledge
myself.

Silence
Gloria Ikeji Aug 2013
I think i told myself
So many times
That silence is the answer
Because when i talked
Everything felt wrong
Only other voices spewing misunderstanding
I believed talking was a weapon used for destruction
That my silence will create a bridge
But i was wrong
The words that spilled, flowed softly
Who listened
To what i had to say
My tongue is my creation to share
I speak words of empowerment
I speak to create

The drizzle of rain
And slow hum of that song
Played on repeat
To give me consolation

That you leaving an
Empty, dark hole
Was meant to be
Cause they told me

Blood is thicker than water
But water has given me life
While this wound wont heal
I feel it in my veins
The pathway from there to here
has made feel pulled.

Pooled in this blood
Drowning from the neck up
My heart is pushing harder to stay alive.

Gloria Ikeji Jul 2013
sometimes i wonder
if the times we had together
meant everlasting
because we had love
that could rise again
like a phoenix

we tell others advice
so they can live
their life
while we're sitting,
waiting for
ours to begin

sea of strength
Gloria Ikeji Jul 2013
I have fell down many
Times that I've lost count
No broken bones
But a bruised soul
That may never heal.
I have fallen down too
Many times.
My heart aches from
Pushing.
My body can't take anymore
Like fine china.
I have fallen down too
Many times
But will rise up many more.
I am the sea.
Vast in depth, breaking
At the cusp of life.
For I am strong and
Will rise up with strength. .

You are what you eat.
Gloria Ikeji Jul 2013
They tell me i look like you
every contour shape is
shadow of your ages
passed down
the self reward to hold a standard
to look like you
and act like you
they say im beautiful
passed down
well if beauty is measured
by the pounds i weigh
and the food i eat

i may be too ugly
for my mom reminds me
that those carbs are a heavy
burden to pay

that food is a blessing
but a curse
cause when you look in the mirror
all you see is hate

i hope to remind my
daughter that
food is a blessing
and all you see is growth
because with food
comes love
your body is temple
to place the things you love inside
food is compassion
for you sit with the ones you love
while you eat

i may not know the next diet
but i will know that my body
is what i eat
and i eat love

The Spark.
Gloria Ikeji Jul 2013
he was there
that spark in the cold winter
steps closer and closer
the heat radiated
as my heart skipped two beats
each time to catch a breath
then
he spoke to me
as words were the ink
and i was the canvas

i think we love the ocean
to feel the crash
beat with our hearts
cause this ocean
was meant to be felt
within our souls

guide us softly
and steady like the ocean waves

Close.
Gloria Ikeji Jun 2013
I want you to teach me how to feel
feel me in between the creases
of my body

backs arched
toes curled tight
trace me softly

this all feels real
our love shared
without words

your heart against mine
every beat is calculated

intertwine
sigh
repeat

Day 364.
Gloria Ikeji May 2013
It was unexpected
like the summer days
the knots in my stomach seem to disperse
i never thought id feel this way
for you.
your brown eyes could heal a soul
i feel free with you
every word falls slowly,
not waiting to catch a breathe
emotions a teenager can't handle
That touch was replayed
to figure out if it meant something
something other than hello or goodbye
because every time i see you i don't want to leave

your side
im falling for you
crush

Unspoken.
Gloria Ikeji May 2013
Tip of my tongue
overused, and quite abused
in the most polite way
can be entangled in fear and thoughts
not knowing what to say
lashes back in attitude
declaring war as if its the end of the world
those teenage battles
conflict between moral and selfishness
my tongue spoke words of devil but had a touch like an angel
speaks love and fights battles
until the last breathe
use your words  in every moment

One in a million
Gloria Ikeji May 2013
This isn't a poem to tell how special you are
cause you're not.
Gloria Ikeji May 2013
Black, empty screen
meant to engulf your mind into the scene
We're sitting in the back
stained trail of your hair over my face
Legs wrapped tight
Film unwinds

as you kiss the crevice of my neck
the wheels skid on the pavement in the scene
heart beats faster
that moment was a divine intervention

You Are The Future
Gloria Ikeji May 2013
I saw you in the corner yesterday
Writing your essay about things that don't make sense right now
you spoke so eloquently
and tried your best
to express
every emotion that was spewing out from you
You are the future
Future filled with desire and passion
I could hear your heartbeat
it flowed with life
and room for knowledge to grow
Don't listen to what they say
Social norm
is not always the way
People like you are hiding
hiding in this world
or maybe
seeking the great where no one else can be found.
As you kept on talking
I smiled knowing you are the future
and the future is bright
Thought of all the amazing people in the world while writing this. Thanks for being on this planet.

Would bring you back to me

First
Gloria Ikeji May 2013
Love's first true kiss
on the kindergarten swings
meeting internal bliss
when his lips touch your cheek
next step are the wedding rings
he leaves
only the ring pops left on the sand
trails led to that other girls hand
start counting heartaches
and mistakes

Anxious.
Gloria Ikeji May 2013
They are listening to every thought
maybe if I grin no one will notice
notice the pain
breathing slowly to catch one breath that doesn't break
my ribs crumble and my knees shake
For this mess can not be
fixed by words.
Words are what brought me down.
All catching up to me.
Those middle school jokes
that have turned into truth.
I cant even look you in the eye.
Is that what acceptance means.
