Spotlights on us

seemingly illuminating
and otherwise blinding

can't see the audience
can't tell the difference
between time and space

different manifestations
of each other creating
infinite mandalas
poured into rivers

tones rising out
of and falling into
silence

I trip over words and pick the sounds out of the scrapes in my palms

I make motions to pick up the gravity but my actions are glitchy, disconnected

an abstracted cadence
remote inflection
radio nuance
rhythm break

modal static living in stasis

ants on a screen as grains of rice
with bubbles in a glass of beer
merging like two tones
harmonizing on a
secondary tonal plane

move me like a modulation
end me like an infinite crescendo

I am suspended
over several tones

just let it go
and I am resolved

follow where the voices lead

I'm a grinnin' black hole, darlin'

Y'can't see to the bottom
of the center of my universe

I'm an ever-hungry ditch

spin spin
spin around me
and drip your lights
down my thirsty throat

I sip too swiftly

choke on sunshine

wait!
don't cross the line,
there's no turning back -

too late...
universes collide and
collapse into one another

I was fearful as I was
flying by the seat of my pants

so I'm sorry that I loved you by the skin of my teeth

because my smiles were as good
as blank stares to a blind horse
for which I wrote a thousand words
to paint a pretty picture

but music isn't about the notes you play
it's about the notes you don't

they speak volumes louder
than a thousand perfect paintings

but then I found it better
to remain in simple silence
to be thought of as a fool
than to speak and
remove all doubt

but I missed that special stitch in time
the one that saves another nine

and now I'm sewing patches
on ripped recycled fabrics

planting seeds in sorry gardens
that as I sow so shall I reap

but now I lay me down to sleep
and I pray the light my soul to keep

but I'll let the darkness hold me now
and guide me through the night

better to light a candle
than to curse the dusk

it is always darkest before the dawn

All year long the sun has strived,
to bring its light to life.

To rise and fall every single day,
through harmony and strife.

Through the Spring and return to life,
seeds are planted, grown, and nurtured.
Through the Summer and fruition,
fruits are plucked, prepared, and eaten.
Through the Autumn and return to death.
Plants are turned into the soil,

a returning to the source.

The Sun and Earth
Swing in celestial dance
a motion of merry mirth

From life to death
and death to life
a cycle of rebirth

How our legs are weary now
Our roots take nothing in
We sink into the soil now
Spinning with goofy grins
(I'm dizzy!)

Cradled by the mother
In the arms of darkness
The sun is still in silence,
in tranquility at rest

With a loving embrace
to heal the weary Sol,
we breathe out
in cosmic balance.

The night is at its longest.

The sun emerges
from the hug of darkness
and we breathe in the light
expanding within and throughout

The sun is returned!

Midwinter is here!
Midwinter is here!

Solstice wisdom,
spirit and cheer!

Spirits of mirth
Welcome here!

Spirits of mirth
Welcome here!

We are the rising sun!
We are the change!
We are the ones
we are waiting for!
and we are dawning...
We are the rising sun!
We are the change!
We are the ones
we are waiting for!
and we are dawning...
We are the rising sun!
This Winter Solstice we strive to remember that darkness is not something of which to be afraid. Sometimes we go to the dark place of our soul. We can find safety and comfort there. In the dark place in our soul we can find rest and rejuvenation. In the dark place of our soul we can find balance. When we have rested, been comforted, and restored, we can return from the dark place in our soul to the world of light and new possibilities.

You are the sun.
What can you find in the darkness?

My unseen tears
condense onto windowpanes
as they're smashed open by codependent assumptions.

Blinding
blunt force flashlights
shatter sharp shards of light
across the darkest crevices
of my soul.

Impatience
and uncertainty
leads to reactionary behavior.

Do not plant flowers
in the gardens of someone
who cannot take care of their
own plants.

Their soil is unsaturated
with nutrients.

How can you expect to enjoy the fruit of their love?

I am a withered plot.
I am the dead of winter.

No one is interested in how it has died.
They are only upset that they can no longer feed themselves.

What you see is what you get.

and I like to use humans
as rags, scrub 'em in the dirt
and throw them away.

Ha

How can we expect to grow if we cannot bask in each other's fullest glow? We are sunflowers hidden in separate caves, lit with lone candles.

It hung there on the wall
Staring back at me
Warped as my soul
A perfect reflection

I could see the beauty
in all the hills and valleys
but the way the light bent
into and over them
showed me an
ugliness

It minimized that which I had magnified
and magnified that which I had minimized

It hung there on the wall
in the hall
Looking into my soul
A serene pool of sharp
metallic truth
glassy

I've seen you before
and when I broke you
it left me bleeding

I found myself
and I found myself
running away

I don't want to hurt you anymore
I want to love you

but it's so hard to even look
at that flat mirror warped reflection
warped reflection

with every different person.
