Breaking away
saves the day

on none's side
in self abide

wanting nothing
in emptying

more listening
hardly speaking

no hurrying
nothing harrowing

letting go
in the flow

not knowledge-trapped
mind not in fixation-wrapped

ambition left to sleep
peace and joy, keep

life goes in its round
be unfazed on your ground

let others be
it's not your story

have no name
nothing to claim

be somewhere
none would be aware

hold close to nature
your unfailing teacher

only yourself- none other
is your anchor

not control, force or power
but calm acceptance in every hour

embrace in joy the last sunset
without remorse or regret.
Dr Peter Lim Feb 2020
Where there's unity
    it's the home of humanity.
Dr Peter Lim Feb 2020

The more I let go
      the better I know
Dr Peter Lim Feb 2020
The flower is the flower
     the bower is the bower
to be more than themselves they don't endeavour
from their natural state they don't fall over
Dr Peter Lim Feb 2020
What is minus?
     what is plus?
     which is better?
     which should you trust?
Dr Peter Lim Feb 2020
Some see darkness
     in the bright daylight
     others see clearly
     in the thickest of night
Dr Peter Lim Feb 2020
Life should be measured
     not by its mileage
but in every tiny little step
free from mental and physical baggage
Dr Peter Lim Feb 2020
In the Universal Congruence
there's no room for any divergence.
Dr Peter Lim Mar 2020
The sun has set
      darkness shrouds the moors
      my eyes are dim
      a deep silence descends outdoors-

     death seems like a friend
     I welcome with no fear
     to beauty I hold
     I'll shed no tear-

    sweeter is the promise beyond
    nothing could be as dear
all life is a deceptive dream
its harsh voice I choose not to hear-

is that a star that does beckon
above the moors or do I amagine?
in this my fading hour I reckon
life and death are one in happy kin.

with greater doubt!

Good deeds have a quick full-stop
bad ones for a lifetime they rampantly hop
Dr Peter Lim Apr 2019
Self-professed contrition is much too easy
for wrongdoing to come there looms still the possibility.
Dr Peter Lim Nov 2018
From the dim misty past
through the mind's tunnel dark
memory like a flash of lightning bursts
upon the moment unexpected-
a screen of smoke appears to shut
away the present--- a standstill of time--

pictures, smells, sounds, voices
light, shades, colours, places, faces
they resurrect
like fragments of shattered glass
where only vague images suggest
as in impressionistic paintings
with wide gaps waiting to be filled
by the imagination of the rememberer

feelings are awakened
in an avalanche
the heart beats fast
in confusion as reality
fades and sinks away
the imperious past
claims victory
and takes over
with relentless immediacy

it's as though
our human life
is a boundless sea
each wave a memory
of rapture or sorrow
of triumphs or set-backs
of  remorse, regrets, aches
of dreams that perished
of hopes that vanished
of love or its loss
of beauty which once
held majestic sway
to end at the close of day

are we sad or happy
each one of us
none does know
but oneself
what would you
and I finally say?
* slightly amended
Dr Peter Lim Jul 2021
Night is my solace

the day my chagrin

the piano is my only place

my eternal shine--

give me not any praise

only let love be ever mine

sweetened by unending grace

my music is what makes my life divine
Dr Peter Lim May 24
Why are we made
to suffer and cry
when so much beauty
surrounds us- to die

when we’re in
the spring of life
when all the flowers
are dancing by our side?

Our love is still so nascent
  waiting to bloom- to deny?
We are yet to share the best
ere the dusk hours draw nigh-

    to music I turn
for consolation - there I fly
    where tears don’t appear
and pain and suffering never pass by.
Dr Peter Lim Jul 2021
The clown bears suffering
none would ever know
there's no cleansing
this departing-route I must follow

Sublime poetry outlasts time --never fails in leaving behind
some lingering thoughts and feelings in the reader's mind
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
Poetry is sanctity and religion
it permeates the heart's deepest region
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
Profusion of grandiose words
       does not good poetry make
it tends to be too ornate and awkward
readers to such poet they unkindly take
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
To be able to find
just the starting right line
that even eludes the poet's mind
then a poem does itself define
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
No collision of mind and heart
in their fusion is poetry's intrinsic art
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
Neither thought, feeling
nor language being forced
like a stream in natural flowing
such a poem will be rightly endorsed
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
Be glad when
you stop short
in negotiation with words
you're treading on the right spot
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
In many starved moments
when you aren't ready
neither feeling or thought
would visit---forget about writing poetry.
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
Keats suffered beyond endurance
when he suffered in silence more
the richest poetry woke from his pain
heavenly words they began to ceaselessly pour
Dr Peter Lim Aug 2020
The poet is moved
    less by joy than sorrow
    he treads on sanctified soil
his poetry's beauty then begins to glow
Dr Peter Lim Jan 2020
I'm not done

Form, style, individuality
put this last
substance should precede
all that will come to pass

Long-winded?  Avoid-

    I committed wrong

Dr Peter Lim Nov 2020
From the remote dizzy heights
of the cliff stood a proud raven
surveying below with watchful eyes
no gunman would see where it was hidden-

the baby-birds had been richly fed
summer sun gushed out its light so resplendent
the nest was safe on a sturdy tree in an old estate
intermittent shrill caws echoed from moment to moment
Dr Peter Lim Dec 2018
You are lucky
a few offended
