Self-pity is worse than cowardice

If life contains no sorrow
        would we its mysteries know?

How do we ensure ourselves
our happiness is not just self-directed but has a larger and, in its most noble dimension, embraces also common humanity?

Personal happiness in seclusion doesn't enlarge but rather does the opposite in that it dwarf us.

But how weak and self-indulgent
is human nature! It's me to the exclusion of you and them!

Be expectation- free
for disappointment, be ready.

I've done wrong
I'll readily admit
prompted by my conscience
nothing to do with wit.

Strength is lesser
than character

  Don't say nice words
  at my funeral
  most of such I don't deserve
  I won't care if you don't appear at all

I was young and innocent
my friend then, like you before
but after so many long years

Persuasion is better than aggression as the latter is a last resort
while the former allows for rationality and cooling of strong feelings.

In a crowd or group
it's easier to believe than disbelieve
you don't want to miss out
to lean towards does bring relief.

To me, poetry is larger than nature as it is able to enter into the soul
of all creation--in its worship of the beautiful and the truthful, it transcends all things and phenomena, and becomes the universal speaking voice of man's loftiest feelings and thoughts.  It outlives life and immortalises the human spirit.  Poets die but not their poetry.

Friendship is costly.

Humility is self-sufficiency

Self-worth cannot be measured by others
it knows its own place and above
all else towers.

To me, people could be divided into just two categories--
those who fit into life without effort and those who have to struggle to fit in.

not having friends is not to miss

Why do I choose
a dog for a friend?
it has more human qualities
affectionate and loyal to the end.

I scarcely care whether I am noticed or recognised--
my best I have done.

Futile is self-explanation
listeners regard it as a weak disposition

Let me share your joy
     but allow me also to enter your heart
     in your loneliness and sorrow

This could be generally true--
of some so-called friends you might hardly have a clue

How alluring the smile
such words so honey-sweet
the mask that deception wears
when such impostors you meet

Knowing when to stop could be more important than knowing when to start.

End rage
rather than
enrage
you'll be a better man!

If you take yourself too seriously
those around would be too quick to flee.

I don't need to know
as long as I understand

With some people, forgiving others is much easier than forgiving themselves.

If I compare
I would go nowhere

the old man listens
and thinks

Did I see--REALLY?
  or was that my fancy?

Don't ****** life
  it didn't do you wrong
  you would add on strife
  as time travels along

Life should be sipped, not gobbled

She might not be the best songstress
   but she had an audience, nevertheless
