The self and others-
   the perennial angst
   people come into your life
   and go----without thanks

   one has but oneself
  to cherish, love and hold
  the world teems with malice
a tale time and again retold

Dr Peter Lim Mar 2021
For J.A.
My violin is my very voice
my deepest thoughts it does convey
amidst my darkest lonely hours
it drives all my sorrows away-

to a celestial realm we belong
where beauty is beyond words to say
the edge of eternity we together touch
where the brightest sunshine adorns every day.
Dr Peter Lim Mar 2021
The saying of a renowned person doesn't necessarily mean
it's worthy of note as some of theirs are prone to being prosaic while that  from a lay person could contain wisdom or insight, but most people are not circumspect enough to spot this as they are mesmerised by 'big names'
Dr Peter Lim Mar 2021
I long for your tender touch
the night brings back memory
of you--I see the stars weeping
but you don't belong to me-

the past is a dream of sorrow
our love is not meant to be
but for you my sad song I'll sing
though my heart will never be free

where, oh where are you now?
did you not say once you would forever love me?

my loneliness seems an eternity

Youth is the early bloom of spring
the garden where fairest flowers blow
the heart is in passionate longing
                    deepest feelings they ceaselessly flow.

There's a sweet song to be sung every dawning
wherever lovers come together or go
every kiss will be a memory without ending
love will keep this forever and will stronger grow

Why does the heart lie?

         Why does love elude?

Why does time so swiftly pass by?

          Why is it impermeable-truth?

          Why does beauty die?

Why is life sown with ingratitude?

Why do I escape to cry?

Why on earth was I put?

Being slow enables me to enjoy the journey--there's so much beauty to see and so much that holds me in awe along the way.

And I know Nature is talking to me in her silence.

Should Sorrows Be Shared?
Dr Peter Lim Mar 2021
Dear Madam,  you are compassionate and humanistic but I think certain sorrows can't be shared....they are close to being sacred--their poignancy should be kept to the sufferers alone-

it's not pride or arrogance--it's something so personal and is intrinsically its own.  Furthermore, its meaning is so profound that sympathisers might not be able to grasp or understand. The greatest danger is that a public declaration might be taken as a cry for pity or sympathy which is entirely undignified and inane.

Dr Peter Lim Mar 2021
Through Zen,  I have become a very patient person....

it strengthens my connectedness to others;  I acquire humility, compassion and tolerance; have an abiding faith in the benevolence of the Universe despite life's suffering and pain;

I accept adversity and my mortality without fear or anxiety; in my dying moment, I will say: life has not been a mistake
Dr Peter Lim Mar 2021
1.    I can't be among the best---I can only do my best

2    I should know what  I can and can't do

3   I should abide by faith in myself

4   I don't strive to win--if I succeed, it's a product of my effort

5.  I agree:  Carpe diem--

The best part of many lives

Mystery of the Heart
Dr Peter Lim Mar 2021
What the heart desires

  it doesn't understand

  sometimes it burns like fires

other times it's silent and content

for love both loathes and inspires

as it traverses over many an uncertain terrain

it waxes, wanes, doubts, mesmerises

how often it does oscillate between joy and pain!
