I ain't a dog
    I can't bark
    (barking is quite an effort
for that poor creature in the dark

    not knowing whether
    there's an intruder around)
    lucky I ain't a dog--there could be
a gunman too eager to bring me to the ground!
*  an exchange with friends over dogs

Life too heavily and unkindly
on us does too often weigh
the snarl of unfriendly hours
only love shall show us the way

there's a bright green pasture
beyond this cloistered gate
only your heart will this lock unleash
our love is the reason to celebrate.
* inspired by the poems of Robin, a fellow-writer

From far away
amidst the mist of time
you look more beautiful
and enchanting.  Sublime

is a word that begs in inadequacy
but no poet am I---this poem's frail outcome
would only mar the eternal wonder
that's you, you alone--- I wait but know you won't come.

Moments of the past
those that surface now
tomorrows'  awaiting
all to end in their languishing hour

time is a heartless machine
life but a frail summer flower
we look before and after*
asking questions that know no right answer.
* from Shelley's poem though this is a common utterance

To me, knowing what life is not
is infinitely more important than
knowing what it is.

This has placed me in a state of preparedness
apart from strengthening me.

Philosophy I deem to be less important
than discovering things on my own.

To life:

we meet
then we say
goodbye
nothing more
Dr Peter Lim Nov 2017
The more obliquely
I look at life
things I see  more clearly
