Sir Richard's tomb in silence sleeps
The day has broken fair
Then tourists come ashore and shout
'I wonder what's in there?'
'Some dust or bones, a skull, a sword?'
I doubt they even care
But others visit Richie's tomb
And stare a silent prayer.

In the soft light
Of a new day
We lie at last as one
In the company of love

For each other
And for this time
The special hour of dawn
Between wakefulness and sleep

The light streams in
Through the window
It sets for me the scene
Of a new day for loving

Each other darling
A day for us
To know each other more
And explore each others hearts

The shadows play
Upon the wall
Cast by those trees outside
And I smile at their dancing

That's so like both
Our dancing hearts
Which to some unheard song
Keep silent, single rythym

I see your hair
A river now
Flow upon the pillow
And I love with it to play

For how it feels
So soft to me
Like finest Eastern silk
A flowing, silky river

I kiss your eyes
You're still asleep
And your sweet lips murmur
How I'd love to wake you up

And quickly say
I love you dear
But now I let you sleep
And prolong this special time

I stroke your neck
So pale and fair
Again I see you stir
So I wrap my arms around

You my lover
My only one
I draw your body near
And mould it unto my own

So all morning
We'll lie like this
What better can we do
For we've fallen both in love

With each other
With this time
This breaking hour of day
And to this, our morning song.

A poem on paper isn't enough
to describe our love and what we've been through.
Our first year of marriage has been the stuff
that reminds me daily why I love you.
Who is loving and caring, both brave and kind,
allow me to be me whilst staying you.
My English Rose, and I was lucky to find
a heart worth loving - one heart made from two.
Walking forward on the path of our past.
Constructing a future from our love true.
Designed forever and built up to last.
These words aren't enough and surely too few
  to mark our anniversary today
and tell you all that my heart has to say.
David Bremner Mar 2015
I am nothing but
a pebble.
Cast up upon the beach
that is your life

My hard edges rounded
by storms long past
Whose fury was lost
upon this shore

Now still wet - I glisten
in the early morning sun
As the tide ebbs away
revealing your truth

When the sea returns
racing in across the sand
We two will lie together
Safe in Neptune's bed.
David Bremner Dec 2016
From my sandwich
You steal a bite
Is it really a month?
Since our coffee shop first-date

A month with you
And here we are
Safe in the time of spring
The time thats made for growing

Here on the bench
In this 'our' park
Where many times we've sat
Learning about each other

We find a way
To make the time
To simply be alone
In company of others

I close the flask
Our picnic done
And clear the things away
It's then that I catch the scent

Of blossoms? No
It's your perfume
So beautiful on you
How could I not have noticed

I catch your smile
My heart just stops
Well, figuratively
For it's beating double time

I tuck your hair
Behind your ear
And kiss you on the cheek
Like they do in old movies

It's time to go
Return to work
Factory and office
So quickly we make our plans

At 6 p.m
I'll pick you up
We'll go a drive somewhere
And try to catch the sunset

And then at night
We'll have to part
And wait for day to call
And our game to start once more.
David Bremner Nov 2016
In an instant
The world seemed changed
As the wind fell
And snowflakes filled the sky

But it was not snow
That changed my world
It was YOU
Your smile, your touch, your love.

This girl - Felicity
Shimmers *** appeal
Like a plastic pink flamingo

I see her walk
early morning
Along the sands

Watching the tide
roll in and out
High heels in hand

As she waits
for darkness
and the sensuous night.
David Bremner Aug 2015
On canvas
I try
To depict
Felicity

Young
Vibrant
Dangerously
Beautiful

A portrait
Of her
100% so
Yet more

Green
Yellow
Red
Black

For I
Have stolen
Into the work
With her

Felicity
Me
Us
You

Today I walked
Along the dunes
My heart was very quiet
The sea my sole companion

I thought of you
Your smile, your kiss
How I longed for your love
How I long for you tonight

I saw a ship
So far away
Out on the horizon
Where sea surrenders to sky

In such a way
As lovers know
Within their longing hearts
That reason gives way to love

I found a shell
Upon the sand
Its beauty touched me so
A gift from the pounding surf

That scrubs this beach
With every tide
A cycle of cleansing
Of purposeful renewal

And as I turned
To leave the beach
I looked back at the bay
And in its shining surface

I saw your face
And felt your kiss
And knew your thoughts were here
Such is the strength of our love.
David Bremner Sep 2017
My river pebble
Through a clear pool
Reflection muddied
I saw you, picked you up

Admiring with my eyes
Your smooth surfaces
Pressing with my fingers
Your hard heart.
David Bremner Nov 2016
He pecked and pecked that night
the little beggar
For I quietly watched him
as dark stole in

To rob from me the redness
of his rich breast
The chubby joy he gave
in days last minutes

Was anything but wasted
providing peace
As I waited for my tea
served with love

That I had for the robin
with his jaunty ways
And as rain touched the window
I gave him to the night.
David Bremner Jan 2017
Alone we are
Just you and I
As I point at the flame
That dances in the fire

You hold your head
In both your hands
And seem to lose yourself
In the warmth of that rich glow

Your face is held
Within my gaze
You're everything to me
I wonder if I tempt you

To fall in love
Here this evening
Alone just you and I
Where romance is our fire.
David Bremner Feb 2017
They've been good to me the council, I mean
they put me here
and when all's said it's not that bad a scheme.
With my penthouse flat I'm the overseer
of the world below me its rights and wrongs
and from my sitting room, well man the views!
Of the far green hills and the rising sun
in the early hours gives my heart a song
that only fades when I switch on the news.
But it's the roundabout that yields me fun.

It lives below me and I must give thanks
to whoever
placed it here, a planners' pen, paper blank,
if it were like that no planner better.
For he drew into my life such real joy
I've known too much sadness - I lost a son
but don't dwell on that watch the roundabout!
Enter, exit, quick and slow, bold and coy
I see it all each day, what have I done?
They all pass through it but I have no doubt

That they love its lanes and its scrubbed white paint
guiding them on
some too confident, others like to faint.
Their parents drove here 'neath the self-same sun.
Indeed a time or two I must recount
an accident, mans lust for the violent.
Up here, I will confess, within my heart
I saw all the signs but I did not shout
the warning words I could have sent
but looked on in horror as per my part.

And so, I suppose, until near the end -
I'm not quite sure
when I'll make that choice - I will have to spend
my time in this flat the unnoticed viewer.
Watching you drive the roundabout, your car
spluttering, stalling, even breaking down.
A journey joyful and sometimes sad
taking you nowhere or taking you far
through congested traffic enough to drown
out all my loneliness, leaving me glad.

Solid city walls
Rising above golden sands
Magic everywhere

Old men playing boules
Silver ***** shining brightly
Pleasure everywhere

Sails and masts abound
A thriving busy quayside
People everywhere

Gardens rich with scent
Flowers alive with beauty
Colour everywhere

Spinning carousels
Ringing with happy laughter
Children everywhere

Azure sky and sea
In blazing summer sunshine
Lovers everywhere

Pretty mademoiselles
Joining their lips in loving
Passion everywhere

These are my sweet thoughts
When I think once more of you
Pretty Saint-Malo.
David Bremner Nov 2016
I recall, Julie, that day
When, as equals, we met
At the altar that forever stands
Behind the co-op

And how the bell that rang
A summons for registration
Symbol of bureaucracy
Truncated passion

.....but fuelled desire!
David Bremner Jul 2016
The psycological effects
of the rewired mind
infused with the 'Green Fairy'
are learned the easy way

As he - that is I
strides the late night town
ten foot tall
with a sixteen year old

on his arm
in the town
as the gargoyles
watch from heaven

A night spent trying
to climb a moving Vesuvius
a chimeral dreamscape
of unreal reality

As he - that is I
strides the late night town
ten foot tall
with a sixteen year old

on his arm
in the town
as the gargoyles
watch from heaven
David Bremner Nov 2016
Here in my mind
I see the world
Coloured in shades of red
The colour that paints my love

I see the sky
Crimson and clear
With brightly burning sun
That warms the air around us

The sea is pink
A pool of love
Bottomless in its depth
Made for lovers to drown in

Ruby mountains
Valleys of jewels
Yet none will ever hold
The value of your love

The trees are red
Yet still they grow
Just like a fertile heart
They reach as high as they can

This is my dream
My scene for us
For red is the colour
Of passion and desire

And that - with love
Is how I feel
About you - only one
Please feel the colours I see.

An early poem of mine when I wrote 4,4,6,7.
David Bremner Dec 2016
This night, my love, your shadow
Is cast here, upon my wall
Thrown up by the light of the fire
And presented for me to love

There was a time, that shadows
All seemed haunting, dark and false
They were things that leapt without warning
To consume my heart and my soul

But now your shadow fills me
With feelings for only you
My lover, I long that your shadow
Shall ever cast within my room.
David Bremner Mar 2015
The eyes flicker
In mutual understanding

The breath quickens
With the suddenness of it all

The mind doubts
For the briefest of moments

Then the walls tumble
As the heart takes over

She said " I love you".
David Bremner Sep 2015
Smoke rings float
In the air
Before entering the mind
Through the nostrils of the soul

Love hangs like a pair
Of pink knickers from a lampshade
A bad cliche
From a good *****

My mind exits
Floating in the air
Like an 'Operating Thetan'
If you believe in that

While Felicity
The stiletto heeled epitome
Of abstract desire
Dances in a concrete world

If this poem is derogatory then it - and I- have failed.
David Bremner Jan 2017
Snowflakes hang in the air
As though suspended
From invisible cords
And they move my hand

To try and write these words
To describe my love
For you and them, who are
So dear and special

They seem to flit around
In a thousand ways
Caught by the tricks of air
To fill me with joy

Like you, my precious girl
So unique and kind
Lovely as a snowflake
Yet perhaps more rare.
David Bremner Dec 2016
The softest of smiles
Reaches right into my heart
And then steals its key.
David Bremner Jul 2019
Tonight the summer solstice moon rises.
Low, clear over the pregnant fields that lie
Here beside us.
Yellow light in my baby daughter's eye
Awake, alive, asking that question - why?

Full-disc moon! Swollen with past sunset's light.
Don't carry your secrets to midnight blue.
I ask what right
You think some order has vested in you
To leave us, here below, without a clue.

Again and again you will go. Higher!
Lower! Dancing! While shifting seasons show
Me a liar.
Trying to explain what I cannot know
To an infant mind so eager to grow

Like the crops before me that now have caught
The breeze. A whispered answer offering
Much that I've sought:
We are both parts of a far greater thing
And knowing that lets the moon goddess sing.
David Bremner Jan 2017
You are the sunrise
Of a thousand days
And you move my soul
In a thousand ways

I press your picture
Up against my heart
Without your loving
My day cannot start

If you are not here
How I long for you
You fill up my life
Please hear, this is true

As I end this poem
Some say words are cheap
But these ones I mean
My feelings are deep.

Southwaite Services ****
She is
Strutting across the carpark
Shaking that tail

Oh look at her walk
One hip at a time
Over and over
On the motorway I'll see her

Understand this
Up here in my mind
United we'll be
Under the sheets

Though she's fifty at least
The experience shows
Thing or two I'd learn
That I wouldn't forget

Here she's a queen
High heels and tight jeans
Holding her own
Heading the pack

Wish I could hold her
Wish she was mine
Wish I could **** her
Wish she would know

And so it goes on
All in my head
An M6 fantasy
Asphalt fuelled love

Into the night
I carry my desire
Imagine our lives
Infused into one

Throwing the shackles
The difference in age
Testing the boundaries
That society sets

Exit ahead
End of my journey
****** attraction
Ends up as love.

Summer had long since betrayed the sand
When alone we both walked hand in hand
With others whose love we tried to hold
On the hail swept beach of bitter cold

Your memory seemed within my reach
As the angry waves punched the beach
Cross ebb tide that made it depart
I scanned the horizon for your heart

Finding instead that still your grace
Lived in this bleak, lonely place
When long days stood in long nights stead
Here you were - Victoria Silvstedt

On the sunny sands of Saint-Tropez
Too much for feeble words to say
Then after we had tread a mile
My 'other' gave an uncertain smile

As if somehow she already knew
That here those nights I came for you
But as she urged us both to go
You appeared once more - spindrift rainbow.

Tiny spring flowers
Pushing up through the brown earth
Breaking winters grasp

Rich and precious jewels
Lending colour to the land
In splurges of joy

And scent for the air
Carried by the spring time breeze
Like perfume for hope

Such is the power
Of small and tiny flowers
And soon they'll be here.
David Bremner May 2017
As the bus whizzed past
I glimpsed the stones at Stenness
They towered monolithically
above a dozen or so tourists

Who themselves seemed like stones.

Then something spoke to me
in the quiet part of the soul
Something from millennia past
and I looked once more at the tourists

Crying for the brevity of life.

Distant light of stars
Reach through the darkness tonight
Show me once more love
David Bremner Jun 2016
She wore her ***
On the Rue Vavin
Like a pink scarf
Round her naked neck

Yesterday we visited
The Zadkine's
At Montparnasse
Where students smoke and love

There her boredom
Was palpable
Though the streets
Enriched her beauty

An English rose
Walking on cobbled streets
Parisian streets
Streets of our love.
David Bremner Sep 2017
Across the wetting lawn and down the darkening path
Through flower-fled weigela, hawthorn berry red
Comes dusk
Making a bed for night 'neath settled robin's wing
Pressing the back lit kitchen panes of ivy frame
Drawing me out in prayer, giving thanks that I came.

Where laburnum dreams of slumber and blackbirds notes
Lie low within the moss-green breeze-block walls
Of home
Strong sanctuary built beneath a cathedral sky
St Boniface, Tooting now to memory lost
Yet in this church of green there is Chalice and Host

Then darkness falls complete, robs the shadows power
Honeysuckle fills the air, incense for this time
And peace
Descends from the heavens so the owl becomes dove
Beyond street lamps are stars, night settles low and long
The spinning spheres have gathered, joined in Evensong.

A seaside girl
I met her
Down on the Prom
It was out of season

Her hair was the colour
Of miles of sand
That lay like a blanket
Along the coast

Behind us the arcades
Pumped out their noise
As she looked in my eyes
I heard her beauty

A woman now
By no means a girl
I couldn't but help
Picture her - nineteen

Then as if
She'd read my mind
She told me of summers
When the crowds had come

Behind us the Sky Tower
Stood like a parent
Proudly watching her children
Paddle in the surf

She pointed to where
The Pavilion had stood
In the distance wind turbines
Stood strangely still

I used to watch
Your children play
Down on the sands
Such beautiful kids

I smiled and nodded
Her eyes were blue
Like the distant mountains
Out to the west

And then a sadness
Crossed her face
On the horizons the turbines
Began to turn

I long for my youth
I wore a bikini
I took her hands
The rain began to cry

Then as quick
She disappeared
Into the air
That now seemed colder

Who she was
I still can't tell
My mind has named her
Sunny Rhyl

Face to face we sat

I beholding this vast sphere
It mocking my existence.

I see them stuck to their arses
Almost wherever I go
Poking above the back pocket
Like the flesh a **** wants to show

There's iPhones, Samsungs and others
A new class-system of makers
Vibrating right through their buttocks
Steadily wetting their knickers

I watched a ******* the bus once
Clean one along her left thigh
Slowly nearing her *****
The dirt in my mind heard her sigh

As she made love to the **** pics
To Tinder, Bumble and more
The phone a pink flower in her hand
That swiped right just like a *****.

Lunchtime - I sit
In my corner
Watching
Tanya

She leans
Against a chair
One knee
Upon the seat

Slowly
I see
Her raise
The coke can

Full fat stuff
She doesn't care
It's that
I admire

A fullish girl
**** and ***
Round of face
Dyed red hair

Her name
Strikes me
Tanya
Sounds like ***

Instant guilt
Consumes
My thoughts
Far from pure

Tanya
Who I imagine
Naked on the floor
Atop my Bowie records

Tanya
Whose name
Has long
Been my favourite

Tanya
Tied - bound
Screaming
In the night

Tanya
Taking my hand
At a funeral
On a wet Tuesday

Tanya
In pink
My colour
Of ***

Tanya
Crying
At the sad part
Of the latenight film

Tanya
Crawling
Across the
Bedroom floor

She places
The red can
On the table
Not caring

Tanya...
Tanya...
Tanya...

That November slipped
so quietly away
Like the leaves that once
fell on the footway

Not a text
Nor a call
I to blame
for it all

Still......

A month makes no impact
on the love that we hold
So a fire was lit
In December's heart cold

Sit for a while
On an ancient piece of sculpted driftwood
Watch the tide turn
By the Point o' Scarden
Under a sky that's as grey
as a gulls' dipped wing.

The sea plays upon millenia of boulders
Listen to its whisper
Here time forgives a life's mistakes.

I
Ernie struck up his pipes
Ten seconds TOO SOON
And in the wrong millennium

Fiona still had her SKIRT up
Adjusting the top of a nylon stocking
Whilst the KING OF THE JEWS
Left an unfinished drink on the bar
Of the Portland Arms Hotel.

All Hail Jesu, King of the Jews
Striding out through the Portland's door
All Hail George Munro
Best dry-stone dyker in the parish
And owner of a MOPED.

II

The procession moved SOUTH
Across the former A9
Careful never to exceed 30MPH
Fiona didn't go
(Preferring a young stranger's hand stroking her thigh)

Then -
The minister appeared, but.......
DIDN'T BELIEVE
That this was the Second Coming
He stood on the front steps of the kirk
That was now a Cathedral ( Lybster henceforth a SHINING CITY!)
Wishing all a HAPPY NEW YEAR
Including the KING OF THE JEWS
Whom he treated like all others
In true Presbyterian fashion
All Hail Jesu, King of the Jews
All Hail The LYBSTER STONE
Left outside in a forgotten corner
In true Presbyterian fashion

Beyond the Police Station and Primary School
A GREAT BEACON blazed
Lit by two schoolgirls and Mr Marshall Bowman
Pyre for a thousand years
Sinners preheated their teenage **** and middle aged bums at it
The nearby football pitch was illuminated by it
Nobody remembered the forgotten old folk because of it
They held their drinks and met their eyes
And as the procession arrived
Departed for the COMMUNITY CENTRE
A veritable Sodon and Gomorrah (BYOB!)

All Hail Jesu, King of the Jews
All Hail Mr Marshall Bowman
Rm32, Geography Block, WICK - HIGH - SCHOOL

(This part rhymes to appease the DEMANDERS)

The hall wis fill wi' yowng and owld
An' packed lek at hid wisna' cowld
Some were timid, ithers bowld
Little bairnies wid no be towld

When the lot hed gethered in
(The fire ootside hed raxed their sin)
They rolled their sleeves an got stuck in
Til grub an ***** an.. well.. ******!

All Hail Jesu, King of the Jews
All Hail Andrew Gunn
Fumbling with a fifteen year olds brassiere
In Donald Eyers' back garden

Jesus turned away from the COMMUNITY CENTRE sinners
leaving them with these words:
The Scribes and Pharisees of LYBSTER COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Will raise here a PAGAN STONE to mark this night
So that Alan Henderson can henceforth
URINATE on it on Gala night
in a political DEED.

And the Scribes took down these words for the minutes
As carefully as I imagined
Taking down the posties knickers.

Whenceforth -
Heralded by three giggling lassies
Jesus entered the great square of the SHINING CITY
Grey's Place
Thst held one butcher shop, two convenience stores
The Commercial Bar and a Post Office
That sold postcards of the harbour
and the Silver Cloud II.

All Hail Jesu, King of the Jews
All Hail the Silver Cloud II
That landed a record haul of 365 boxes
In 1973!

Bare was the square
That lay before the King of the Jews
Only Tony Ryrie's cat Patchy
Moved in its GREAT WASTES
Patch and an empty packet of Salt n Shake
The only witnesses
To the GREAT MILLENNIUM MIRACLE

Whereby -
A shaft of blinding light
Shone forth from the British Telecom phone box
Deflected off the Cathedral weathervane
Up, up (like a great *******) in to the heavens
Where the inhabitants of the moon Titan
Looking up through their dense, noxious atmosphere
Saw this light and sent
INTERPLANETARY FRATERNAL GREETINGS
To their sisters and brothers of Lybster (twinned with Fort Mackinac USA)
That were not returned

All Hail Jesu, King of the Jews
All Hail Johnny Mackay
Envoy from the plannet Titan
to the Court of St James

Jesus was NOT angered by this
For he knew that DEEP inside the people were good
And as Fiona (still in the Portland Arms) dabbed the TIA MARIA off
Her blood red lips
He struck south
Down past Donnie Mackenzie's

All Hail Jesu, King of the Jews
All Hail Donnie Mackenzie
Jannie of Lybster Primary
Pulling out your wobbly teeth in his cupboard
Then giving you a POLO

Until -
He reached the Harbour Road bus shelter
Where a choice was offered
To proceed to the harbour and part the Moray Firth
Or live amongst the lepers
Of SHELLIGOE ROAD.............

III

I was sent to the harbour
To pump the boat
The early morning frost glinted on a half-full Tia Maria bottle
That lay discared on the grass
I pulled the cork
Took a long, sickly draw
                       Then threw it back

In the SHINING CITY only some things had changed.

Fills the memory

This is how I tell it ……

She didn’t give a ****
The ice cream seller
19 years – quite pretty

Hey!
Wot U @
**** all

Through the hatch I saw her
Mobile in hand
Sitting on a *** that would
Get bigger – and better – with time

U?
At work
Its crap
Lol

She barely bothered
To look up from the phone
Casual disregard, I found appealing
To my ****** side

U out last nite?
Yeah ******* smashed
Went home with that guy
U know the one

Two strawberry cones please
And a vanilla
Don’t do strawberry
Just vanilla

***** mare !!
PMSL
I need to stop
He’s using U

Is there anywhere else?
Yeah, try up Vale Park
Just up there, round the corner
It’s cheaper too

U still there?
Yeah, sorry, a customer
Can’t be arsed today
Haha, don’t blame U

I left her there
Back on her ***
Leaning over the phone
Hoping for no customers

Wot do I do?
Tell him to *******

We found Vale Park
Saved three quid
As with jealousy she cursed
Her mate and the ice cream.

The wood panneling and my ears
Reverberate with dullness
Dull men with dull words
Dull ladies as well

I, their understudy, listen
Too familiar phrases
Traffic management, zoning
Policy sixty-nine

While I watch her - the junior
With smouldering hard eyes
And sensuous red lips
Which she runs a biro across.

Oh come, take your place with me now
Here by the warmth of the fire
Fall into the clutch of my arms
Feel my heart race with desire

For you and your tumbling hair
Your body, your eyes and your smile
Oh come, now remain in my grasp
Our passion has grown for a while

Lets see the light of that fire
Reflect on those locks of your hair
Let it also shine in your eyes
For they are beyond all compare

And let the flame glow on your lips
It serves to enhance their softness
And fall, when I call, deep in love
A love that is blessed with sweet kindness.

In the spring-time it flitted
across the bay
In form it was delicate
shimmering in the strengthening sun

Through the long days of summer
it lay restful and content
A perfect partner to the sand
in vast, oceanic majesty

Autumn brought its trials
darkness descending as the wind rose
Yet it met the challenge
returning to the fray

Then the storms of winter
overcame it with life
It drowned among its own
though its memory remains.

Early evening
In the bar
Where I sit
Looking at the mirror

She walks in
Early 20's
Skinny jeans, flat shoes
A pale green F & F top

As I look
At the mirror
This unknown girl
Begins to fill it

The mirror has always
Been there
Constant - comforting
But ever present

This girl is new
She flits around
Confidence - energy
She orders a drink

In the mirror
I see her
Perch on a bar stool
*** toward me

The mirror plays tricks
On my distracted mind
Enhancing the curves
Of this slender girl

Through the mirror
Her hair
Shines, hangs straight
Down a sculptured back

She sips her orange
As the mirror
Slows the effect
Increasing the allure

And then
She leans forward
That *** protrudes
But the mirror breaks

I'm seeing you
Eyeing that ******* girl
You're always the same
The mirror has spoken!

The right leg crosses the left
the left leg crosses the right
Not bad for forty two
I watch across the room

This seductive sequence
to think I used to **** that
Not now though - no chance
she really hates my guts

Yet every few weeks  I sit
across the silent living room
She streches over, presenting her ***
In **** tight pink trousers

She knows what she's doing
understands my mind
Pink is my colour of ***
I cannot ignore her

And so the show goes on
and then for days to come
I dwell on the pink trousers
skin of forbidden fruit

With prejudice
You write me off
What right, my friend, have you?
To strike me down so quickly

Cannot you see
That I have fault
Like all my siblings here
Who live on the Earth as one

Do you have fault?
Perhaps you do
Then you are just like me
So imperfect and impure

But I wont ask
About your faults
What right, for that, have I?
I accept you as you are

And I stand tall
Despite your thoughts
And live in disregard
Of the prejudice you serve.
