as the nightime ends
the sea of light washes in
with waves of colour

we are all agates
washed and polished by waves
on this mortal beach

fishing in my mind
trying to catch the big one
with my thoughts as bait

i  am exhausted
my eyes are longing to shut
but my mind churns on

this is who i am
neither better nor worse
than anyone else

a cold wind blowing
snow manes on the mountains
snug in my teepee

wipe away your tears
put your head on my shoulder
let me comfort you
i  will listen to your fears
i will carry your burden
until you are strong again
i love you that much

when you are in love
throw down your walls completely
and follow your heart

i thought i knew love
when i was but a young man
so much wiser now

crossing the summit
snow sticking to the windshield

fences white with frost
blue sky, yellow sun, cold day
snow geese are leaving

on dark velvet sewn with stars
pushing through the night
above the shadowed mountains
and deep dark alpine valleys
weary on her way

sipping gasoline
on this tar paper plain
playing with matches

turning round, she smiled
with awkward flamingo grace
piercing my heart through

underneath the stars
by the ocean on the sand
I will build a fire
then at midnight I will smile
and raise my glass in a toast
wishing a happy new year
to one and to all

corpuscular colours flow
alive through Bonnard

pale blue kimono
all birds and cherry blossoms
that spills down your curves
and falls open as you glide
gifting me the briefest glimpse
of sweet paradise

guided by the moon
on quiet feet at midnight

bright and delicious

out in a galactic arm
oceans full of tears

i want it to snow
so we can make a snowman
with a big big smile

and bright glass baubles
its base wrapped in green paper
its top a big silver star
and one little boy kneeling
watching the bubble lights glow
lost in the magic

a sweet feathered friend
with a borrowed english name
our american robin
with the binomial tag
of turdus migratorius
which means migratory thrush
but to most english speakers
it sounds like something else
something to be avoided
or picked up off of our lawns
not this cheerful bird

so many shoulds
and so many coulds
not many ares

on my weary way
trudging through rough sodden fields
carrying a verse

people often say
war makes a boy a man

what have they done to your soul
these liars and frauds

silly old gander
all puffed up and parading
with his store bought love

sometimes your problems
are so familiar
that you can't see them

thick curly black hair
huge dark carnelian eyes
beautiful harpie
petite to a perfection
each curves return a wonder
her face the shape of a heart
with a tiny freckled nose
full lips all scarlet painted
this goddess from the levant
so luscious and flirtatious
a sweet ripe pomegranate
asking to be peeled

the beauty of life
is there for you to see
but you have to look

pines clatter windows
a howling wind rising
the moon in hiding

wearing my armor
silver paint on cardboard
x over my heart

your moles are signposts
and your freckles are pathways
leading me to bliss

a single red rose
bleeding petals in the wind
crimson tears in flight

above the cliff face
spiraling ever higher
eagles soar the sun

a spider crab flows
its long legged dance across kelp
all rippled brown green

heeling over
i tack hard these bitter winds
sailing alone

Winter whispers
outside my bedroom window
snowplows grumble

your moral high ground
is deep within the pit
that you dug yourself
