verdnt
this moon is swimming in our
    sadness
this heart is losing its
    place
these lungs have learnt to love
    underwater
Today left me with questions
Some pretty confusing questions
I thought a lot today
Tried to answer a lot today

I woke up today
In a good feeling way
I was early
Earlier than my parents
Which doesn't happen often

I felt good today
I laughed today
A lot
With the people I don't normally talk to

I worked today
Hard
And well
And I kept trying

I played today
Outside
In the park
With my friends
With
Kenny
Langston
Nelson
Emma
Phoebe

And I thanked them
Just now
For being such awesome people
And such great friends

I laughed today
With everyone
At everyone

I cursed today
More than usual
It felt good
And it was unexpected

I rocked today
And I'm guessing that'll happen again tomorrow
And the next day

And I talked today
And read today

I felt today.
the bitters of winter
visited this very day
upon tender shoots of grass
its coldness did lay

an icy unpleasantness
which remorselessly kills
whatever lies under
its acrid chill

winter will reign over
these parts for many days
and its frosty cover
will have its willful way

the warming feel of summer
gone for a while
replaced by winter's
harsh freezing bile
Never fall in love with a poet
for their words are sometimes lies
on occasions they're a shield
on occasions a disguise

They will take you on a journey
upon which they bare their soul
in a bid to ease your burdens
in a bid to make you whole

But in every word they choose
for the stories that they tell
lies a little piece of heaven
and a little piece of hell

Tormented souls we poets are
sometimes quite broken and despaired
in search of lost expressions
missed by others who once cared

Never fall in love with a poet
unless you're prepared to share their pain
to hold them close on the darkest nights
over and again

Who am I

Who am I

I'm not my name,
I'm not my face,
I'm not my height, weight or race.
I'm not my age,
I'm not my date of birth,
I'm not yet resting, beneath the earth.

I'm the words of a song,
I'm the twinkle of an eye,
I'm hidden beneath the crinkled pages of a book,
if you take the time, you'll find me, just look.
I'm the warmth,
I'm the light,
I'm a silhouette beneath the starry sky
on a dark, cold, winter night.

I'm an infinite dream, drifting through life.
Life is like having a pen and a blank page in the midst of the night,
You never know what you’re going to end up writing.
Sometimes you end up with a masterpiece and sometimes it all leads to tragedy.
Life is like a blank page,
With every sentence you write you get closer to realizing where it’s all heading.
And sometimes, its left blank for a while because your too busy trying to figure out
which words to use,
which person to be,
which life to live.
This is what happens when your brain starts to wander.

A gentleman traveling through Alabama was interested in Uncle Ned. "So you were once a slave, eh?" said the gentleman.
"Yes, sah," said Uncle Ned.
"How thrilling!" exclaimed the gentleman. "And after the war you got your freedom, eh?"
"No, sah," said Uncle Ned gloomily. "I didn't get mah freedom, sah. After de war I done got married."

I should use a saw
to cut a path
around the spot I stand.
I'll set myself afloat
make my own deserted island
and never reattach myself
to the world
