Why must this cross I carry
Be such a heavy burden
I'm to weak on my own to do this
That much I know for certain

You have more faith in me Lord
Than I have in myself
If you really knew me
You would find somebody else

That is when it is you remind me
Who you've used to build your kingdom come
Prostitutes, thieves, and liars
The list goes on and on

When you needed perfection
That's the moment you sent us your Son
Who am I to even question
The Perfect Righteous One

Sometimes I seem to forget Lord
You're the one who knows me best
You look beyond my present
You're not concerned with my past

You're the one who knows of the future
Because you hold it all in your hands
To bring forth that which you have promised
In the fulfillment of your mighty plan

So Lord, help lift this cross that I carry
Onto this great sinners back
Giving me the strength to succeed
In all the things for you that I lack
Take all my pictures from off the wall
The antique mirror hanging in the hall
The roof on the house that covers it all

Please just leave your heart behind

Take my ideas before they go to seed
My newest and oldest poetry
Take the meaning of all that I believe

Just don't take your love from mine

Take the bed in which we both laid
Even the dawning of the day
Take the hole the emptiness has made

But not the ties that bind

Take the early out of the late
Remember all the mistakes I've ever made
Take whatever words are left to say

Please just leave your heart behind
How can I explain this mystery
Of the amazing grace that's changed the heart in me
All because of Christ and Christ alone

It's not who I am or what I've done
There's no hope for me in how I perform
All because of Christ and Christ alone

There's a great chasm between that separates
The love of God from my mistakes
All because of Christ and Christ alone

The arms held out on that shameful cross
Endured sins pain to endear the lost
All because of Christ and Christ alone

In Christ I trust, in Christ I am
No great mystery in where I stand
All because of Christ and Christ alone

Christ is life, that's all I need to know
Where I need to be is Christ alone
All because of Christ and Christ alone
You can't stop a speeding train
By standing on the tracks in the pouring rain

You can't grab a thunder bolt passing by
If your out in left field with hands in your Levi's

You can't talk a drunk out of his last drink
If he's got nowhere that he'd rather be

You can't stop a wild stampede
With only one hand raised and two left feet

You can't stop a bullet from a gun
No matter how fast you think you can run

You can't stop the sun from showing itself
By promising the day to somebody else

You can't stop the moon from shinning bright
By staying behind locked doors at night

And you can't stop the way I feel
When I'm next to you cause my love is real
Once there walked among men a man
Upon the face of earth
He spoke to each man he met
And told them of their worth

He told all men with listening ear
Turn from sin and come to me
Do not be a slave to fear
Come, I will set you free

He told all men the truth of life
Come unto me I am the way
Wait not for tommorows light
For tommorow may not come your way

This man who spoke invited all
Come and grace receive
A common man yet a king
This man from Galilee
While watching people I realized
That folks are a lot like squirrels
They don't pay much attention at all
To what's going on in their world

They scurry about to and fro
Doing what it is they do
Digging holes and burying nuts
A lot like me and you

They run aimlessly upon their way
Never looking both ways to cross the street
I guess that's why we see so many
Dead squirrels at our feet

Run to here and scurry to there
He lives within his own little world
Yep, watching people I realize
Folks are a lot like squirrels
How much more can this soul take
Have I not learned from past mistakes
As they point to who I am
A fallen leaf blown on the wind

There's the ache inside of me
The constant tug won't let me be
Taking me, Lord only knows
Places I don't care to go

Am I happy with where I am
More like Custer and his last stand
As I face the enemy
Whom I'm afraid could be me

If that is true what can I do
Will I have the foresight to move
Or continue to stand in my way
The same today as yesterday
Or will I learn from my mistakes
Ring, Ring
Goes the alarm clock in the morning

Ring, Ring
Goes the phone with all the calls

Ring, Ring
On the happy couples fingers

With the family photos on the walls

Toot, Toot
Goes the train into the station

Toot, Toot
Goes the baby in her hands

Toot, Toot
Blows the quitting whistle

The one that blew when the day began

Knock, Knock
Goes the furnace in the basement

Knock, Knock
Goes the collector on the door

Knock, Knock
On the wood to make it lucky

If there's any out there anymore
WHY
When will my
                Weakness become strength,
How do       I become stronger than my
                Hopelessness ,
Yearning      for the peace that
                 Yielding would bring.

Louise

She heard whispers upon the wind
and soft words upon a breeze
inhaled a fragrance on the moonlight
called out your name among floating leaves
~
She ran along the sensual sand
compelled by the crashing waves
fleeing from something so familiar
yet her fear was to leave this place
~
Eventually halted by the stars
as they lit up the life in her eyes
she remained motionless,  like the blackness
reading between the clusters and all they implied
~
The moonlight fell upon her tender face
a harmony of waves filled her ears
the sand between her toes would forever remain
as she clung to hope as a souvenir
