ruminating
                  cogitating
                                  pondering
                                                  thinking

the subject matter doth
put the mind into a thought seat
is there sufficient verbs for me
to place on the paper's sheet

verbs by definition are words
which have an action
they on the reader
do have an impaction

so let's explore a topic
worth a thousand of them
how I'll express this piece
shall test my mind's stem

here is the matter I shall discuss
without any duress or manner of fuss

all over the globe there is much trouble
our planet is not as a carefree bubble
the inhabitants often observe strife somewhere
our corners of four not of an according air

were there to be peace and calmed relations
no concerns would beset our world's many nations
yet a propensity for war doth  ever prevail
what sane men shall see the wrongs of this pail

verbs shall never explain man's idiocy
as he's ever involving himself in armory
yet a man who did advocate cordiality
lived with his brothers in true harmony

he was a meek man of the Indian land
a message of non-violence he did band
the lessons of history are never heard
man seemingly ever in the warring herd

the middle east is a tinder box of hell this day
exploding bombs and munitions all spray in affray
verbs of dialogue aren't put to good use
an ongoing lighting of the fuse doth suffuse

few statesmen of Gandhi's ilk now exist
so the torture and torment of war shall e'er persist
diplomacy has lost its edge around the globe
our planet shall remain bound in worrisome lobe

the count of verbs in this piece didn't quite reach a thousand
yet deaths in conflicts outdo that number by the thousands

Online is where Ian teaches late at night
His students live in an Asiatic land
The English language they seek to command
With dedication Ian shows them a light
How to speak the Anglo Saxon diction
His lessons deliver much needed skills
As the world is geared towards these drills
They're after a good qualification
Ian's valuable help in facets of English
Will give them a chance to gain employment
They strive to do well neath Ian's guiding wing
Fruitful learning is what they'll accomplish
University degrees of attainment
These goals Ian's tutorials shall bring

Christmas Rhyme

the jolly man who
wears the red suit
shall soon be here
he'll be speeding
across night skies
towed by his reindeer

will signal
to the children
that he's bringing
his present sack
he'll be putting them
under the pine tree
in a stack

the children's requests
for dolls lego and books
shall be met
they'll get a lot of
stuff left
in their stocking's net

it is hoped that the children
have sent letters to the North Pole
for if they haven't Santa might miss
doing their present patrol

but let us all remember
the children who are less fortunate
and who'll not receive a gift
that will so elate

give a dollar donation
to a child who'll
not hear the happy caroling

Cricket Greats

in the annals of cricket
those of greatness get a mention
for what they've achieved on the wicket
these men stand head and shoulder
above the rest
their contribution
to the game
has
been written as the best
three men have inspired
younger players
in their homelands
they've accomplished
much on wickets
throughout the many cricket playing
lands

Steven Waugh(Australian Captain)
the master strategist
who had a captain's mind
replete with brilliant tactics
when he took to the pitch
the opposition teams
would quiver in their
collective boots
field placement
over deliveries
the weather conditions
all of these factors
actuated in his mind
so he could
bring an innings
of a notable kind

Sachin Tendulkar (Indian Batsman)
the king of the blade
who none can equal
in test matches
his cuts and cover drives
were worthy of an epic prequel
his style with the bat
twas magic to see
he had a prowess
of majesty

Vivian Richard (West Indies All Rounder)
he was never phased
he held his nerve
with the bat or the ball
a tradesman
who fielded what ever came at him
and in his relaxed style
chewed on a piece of gum
and demolish
the bails
with a Caribbean hum

cricket's hall of fame
that 22 yard pitch
where three greatest of the game
performances
did of fans

Clout

the chappy from Moree
and his Narrabri sidekick
put their heads together
and came up with a dandy trick

it was effective in hunting
those common B Graders away
for they'd determined that only
exemplary talent would stay

the chappy and his sidekick
are a most fabulous cohort
they'll not freely associate
with any routine sort

into their hallowed space
you'll be rapidly ushered in
but it is a must to wear
their Mason's variety of grin

some have got aboard
the chappies and sidekick's train
they'll be projected into
the fastest possible lane

the lad's conditions of rule
are certain and absolute
to be atop the mountain with them
you need to be resolute

it is safe to say that the chappy
and his sidekick know their stock
they'll not permit ordinary people
to join their excellent flock

at all times they patrol the zone
with a vigorous stick
to not let the riff raff
gain any illustrious pick

twill make their day to see
the run of the mill shown out
so they've all the clout
that can be bandied about

T-Together they'll create a lovely moon
W-Wonderful is their adoration's boon
O-Oneness of love this pair shall festoon

H-Harmonic shall they be together
E-Exquisite of a meshing love tether
A-Abiding in all kinds of weather
R- Resplendently matching with other
T-Tenderness their eternal soft feather
S-Special the song of amity's heather

B-Bounty and plenty e'er they'll possess
E-Elated this pair in joyous congress
A-Always to be in the realms of fullness
T-Twined by braids to true loveliness
I-Infinite the land of affection's prettiness
N-Naught shall blight their gleefulness
G-Glories shared in a bower of sweetness

A-Aligned in all that they say and do
S-Sublime the narrative of these two

O-Of love's serenade they'll endlessly play

Piper's Flute (Villanelle Poem)

something twas awry with the piper's flute
a most inconsistent rhyme it did oft play
twas very much like an out of tune lute

he thought his flute twas cleverly cute
but a listener did detect its disarray

as it bought to the ear such dismay

those discordant notes you can refute
they've a rather off putting sort of splay

Served On The Plate

the chickens we eat
are laced with growth promoters
fruit and vegetables
in cold storage
are gassed
not to forget
our
beef
pork
mutton
and fish
they've had an enhancement or two
this makes for a toxic brew
which we eat all the year through

the organic ways
of producing food
has gone by the wayside
and we the consumers of food
have been taken on a ride

the scientific fraternity
make discoveries
everyday
and when it comes to the subject of food
they've a lot of enlightening
things to say

chemicals
fertilizers
drugs and all
they are causing the consumer
to question if it is safe
to stow in their mouths
what is served on the plate
