You say
I neglect
the respect
that
your owed,

but you’re not
so just stop
cause I won't
do what
I'm told.

You may be proud,
but I'm not cowed
just cause you
shout that loud,

and the truth
that I gleam
from the way
that you scream
is that you’re not
what you wanted to be.

Your more like me
it seams
just struggling to be
heard and seen
on the same city streets.

The conclusion
I come to
is the same one
you run from,

we are all just
human beings.

If I were A pessimist,
I’d look at life, and hiss and spit.
If I were A optimist,
I’d look at life, and think what bliss.
Yet I am A realist,
So life to me is hit and miss.

Maybe we’re spose to trip when we walk,
Spit when we talk,
Sometimes fall short.

Maybe its ok that we overreact,
From our lack, of personal tact.
Maybe it’s ok to feel disatached,
When we cannot latch,
Or know how to act.
Maybe it’s okey to grow from bad,
Reflect on the sad,
Miss what we had.

Maybe they’ll be A day,
That we can look back,
On days we didnt quite hack,
Or the times we cracked,
And learn to abstract,
With give and take slack.

Beyond the days and past the nights
Where shadows lay just out of sight
We walk the planes that they call dreams
And barely find our way back it seams
Our pictures tell of something more
A story that was told before
But in our heart we tell it again
Dreams are our truest friends

There is poetry in motion
Life is like the ripples in the ocean
They start small and spread wide
One small action can change so many lives
One ripple can intertwine
Your ripple can affect mine
There are so many ripples across the water
That you might as well not bother
To keep track of all of them
Just think on this time and again
The smallest thing you say or do
Can change the world when the ripple is through

They say I am a gateway,
They compare me to class A.
I go by many names,
I’m used in many ways.
Watch me preform my tasks,
Medicinal practice here at last.

To the seizing child on the floor -
Let me steady you once more.
A aching bone feeling sore -
You won’t need pills anymore.
A confused mind needs more time -
I’ll wait with you, will see it through.
Or maybe im just for leisure -
I can enhance, what you pleasure.
Certain compounds within me -
Will help you function, human being.

My death count remains naught,
Unlike the alcohol that is bought.
Don’t abuse what I can do,
Respect me, and I shall you.
As with all things great,
It’s give and take.

I was placed here too grow free,
How can they criminalise me?

To truly listen, you must care.
Be present, and self aware.
Do your contract at the start,
Too ensure, you’ve done your part.
Empathises through their eyes,
Connect the dots and be wise.
Person centred is the key,
To showing true empathy.
Communicate your limitations,
Boundaries and qualifications.
Ethics are what you need,
To value A human being.
Remain honest, and act true,
Be accountable, for all you do.
Act with nonmaleficence,
to show beneficence.
Ask open question, to aid progression.
I must critique we are all unique.
Let’s not forget about respect,
To have candour and protect,
Confidentiality - must be kept.
Be clear and transparent,
Paraphrase the apparent.
Focus on emotion, self governing and devotion.
Have congruence within your self,
Too ensure good mental health.

There she sits in
a cement structure
that is
scarred by the torture
of poverty
and mother nature.

Her deep brown eyes
stare from a
broken glass window,
pondering
the growling
disposition
of her stomach.

Till, it becomes
just some noise
she forgets to hear,
and the feeling
becomes
some numb
buzzzzzzzz
in the back ground
of her exhausting
existence.

She is a still specter,
a powerful presence
in a place I have never seen,
memorialized for my
consumer eyes
by a photographer.

Hopeful humanist,
Howard G. Buffet
presents this
stark truth to me
in a photo reality.

So, all this fluff poetry
is an artistic assumption.
What gumption
I have to put words
to a world that
I have never been to,
seeing the starving children
while I am stuffing
my comfortable face.

She is symbolic of
human beauty and grace
in times of struggle
while I am a product
of comfort, excess, and human waste.

How do these
two extremes
exist
in the same
time?

Do not read a book
or watch a show
about people
you do not know.

Do not go anywhere,
or engage
with strangers
of any age.

Do not face
those in pain
or see suffering
which
you might
be able to
relate to.

Do not let
blurry stereo-types
come under scrutiny
and see the unknown
loose its fuzziness.

Do not look into
a parent’s eyes
as she watches
her child fade,
preparing herself
for an instance
in which she wishes
she could trade places.

Do not look
at a child who is hungry
when you have
more than you need.

Why would you want
an inch of
human decency?

For heaven sake
avoid empathy
at all cost.

Two miles away
from a much needed
toilet break,
my stomached churned
as I turned
down a busy road.

In tattered rags
his body laid curved
in an unnatural angle
against a brick wall,
while two strangers
surrounded him.

I am certain
he was hurting
or dead
but I did not stop
to help,
merely drove on
till the sight
was long gone
so, I could relieve myself.

The lesson is
we are not less then
other men
but different
in our radiance.

Some may shine bright
while others wear a light
that is on another spectrum
one that most humans
are not even looking for.
