Dis is one dream that won’t be pleasant
I’m the master, you the peasant
Broken Ankles and Totaled Cars
Really!? More like Strange Dreams from weird bars
Guess it can’t be, Queens too young
In a club, hands w’d get tied, like your tongue
More like a wanna be princess, than a true Queen
You got weak poems like Death by Dopamine

Gangsta Poet
Chuck Jan 2013
I'm the best, there ever was
Can't get with me, at da club
Other poets, need to respect
My reputation, I'll protect
I got a 9, pen in my hand
Write your name, in the sand
To me, you can't never stand
I ain't afraid, to let out a curse
Write you in, an ugly verse
I'm da best, you da worst

You can't, stay with my meter
I spit sick, iambic pentameter
I'm da truth you da cheater
You rhyme like Armstrong rides
You have to dope, ya got no rhymes
You da Cheech I'm da Chong
I write, you smoke da ****
You da burger, I'm da veal
I earn likes, you freakin still
You got da, cheesy *** rhymes
Droppin' words, like love & sublime
I put the free, in free verse
You all about, Nonsense Verse
I drop a sonnet, makes his head Shake
I'm the Chaucer, you da fake
I'm a Lyric, you the Lune
You can't quit writen', too crazy soon
Your stuff is dirt, mines the moon
You want a challenge, get in the ring
I'll make you cry but your mama sing

You'all poets, you got to know
You da fluff, I'm da show
I'm the king of the poets, HELLO
Thought it would be funny to be a gangsta poet. For the record, no disrespect to poets or rappers. I wrote this for fun. I like rap.

Magic Moon (children's poem)
Chuck Jan 2013
The moon said to the stars, "May I please dance with you?
Your twinkle steps look so fun to do.
"Moon, who do you think you are?
You're near the Earth, and we traveled so far."

"I know who I am. You should see.
I light the Earth at night. They need me.
But you give off this magic light too.
That's why I really want to dance with you!"

"Yes! We understand what you mean.
All of our dancing create a magical scene.
We discussed it, and you're a friend indeed.
That's why you should always take the lead!"
Took a shot at a children's poem. My dancing daughter was my muse.

Automobile (Quatern)
Chuck Jan 2013
What automobile do you drive?
Is it an old Scion XB?
It's economically sound.
It looks like a toaster on wheels.

The most important question is
What automobile do you drive?
It is better than DNA
To reveal who you truly are.

Do you drive a Mustang so fast
That you can't see us broken-down?
What automobile do you drive?
Some people sure could use a lift.

Does your car cost more than a house?
You splash mud on starving faces.
Cars aren't the "be all to end all."
What automobile do you drive?
First attempt at this form. I never heard of it until a few hours ago. If you drive a nice car, p,ease don't be offended, and may I please hold a few dollars? Haha

I hide behind silly humor
I hide behind poetic form
I hide behind a false facade
So that I make myself perform

I'm afraid I'm not good enough
I'm afraid I'm not truly skilled
I'm a afraid I'm a worthless fraud
That this isn't my given guild

I beg for positive feedback
I beg for people to love me
I beg for confidence to come
So I can finally be free

Free to write only for myself
Free to know I'm able enough
Free to deserve the love I have
So I can stop writing the fluff
Please feel free not to comment or like. That one was for me. I really really want to make a joke right now, but I'm fighting it.

Catfish Love (Villanelle)
Chuck Jan 2013
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o
I don't need to see your true face
Loving you! Though you, I don't know

Just tell me were to go
My heart will meet you in cyberspace
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o

Your true face, no need to show
It's the thought of love that I chase
Loving you! Though you, I don't know

You might be a catfish to my woe
But your texts are full of love and grace
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o

Let your secret emails flow
You might be from some other place
Loving you! Though you, I don't know

Love is blind, when you don't show
Today, weird cyber love is commonplace
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o
Loving you! Though you, I don't know
This was my first Villanelle. It is the form of Dylan Thomas's "Do Not Go Gentle . . ." I love that poem. This is a silly topic I've been dying to write about. My next villanelle will be serious. Try this form. It is fun.

Shipwreck
Chuck Jan 2013
Ships, boats, seafaring vessels, and barks of yore
Showcased in acclaimed poetry
From Homer to Donne to Flores
Metaphors to represent sundry notions

Ships
Uncontrollably swirled in an unforgiving sea

An arc
persecuting the sinners ******

A shipwreck
on a desolate island, defining a lost soul

A speed boat
Perhaps, mans' innate desire to escape
Or searching for lands unknown

What marvels poets behold in ships?

If I scribed a verse about a yonder vessel
It would be a childish innuendo
About a ships mast
Or I'd make an astounding observation
Such as ships are big boats.

However, poets, true visionaries
Scope massive ships from
Microscopic aspects of daily life.

And I. . . I look at a powerful ship
And think I'm a little dingy.
Upon reading many great works that reference ships! I had to be silly at the end. I couldn't resist. That does not take away my respect for these poems or poets. I hope it was ok, Neva.

Woke up this mornin'
Still feelin' a buzz.
Woke up this mornin'
Mouth tasted like fuzz.

What day's it today?
Don't nobody know.
What day's it today?
Do I got some place ta go?
What day's it today?
Jumped up and stubbed my toe.

It's Monday mornin'!

It's Monday mornin'!

It's Monday mornin'!

A monster lurks inside of me
I try not to pet or feed it
It's best to hide and let it be
To be me, I guess I need it

My monster is honest and curt
It doesn't often try to bite
When it's fangs come out, it can hurt
It never retreats from a fight

Not all have beasts so mean and tough
I want to be loved, it not much
I want to be soft, it is rough
Maybe I'm mean and it's my crutch

I hurt loved ones, telling the truth
Friends and strangers can get bit too
My blunt, true ways have crushed the youth
My monster destroys more than you

I'd slay the monster if I could
It makes me weep, it makes me blue
I, of all people, think I should
I just want to be loved by you
This is a serious issue for me, but I love the juxtaposition when it's read like a children's poem.

Sit in a desperate, huddled mass
Feel the shivering, helpless creature on the left
Hear my traitorous lungs exhaling, surrendering my position
My heart pounding, screaming at my body
Ordering me to run, to fight, to ****
"Do not go gentle into that good night,"
As Dylan Thomas so elegantly stated
Yet it is not a time for romantic visions of heroism
Beowulf's idealism will not save us here
Sobbing, shivering, ***** stained American Eagle
Sweat drenched Under Amour Tees and hoodies
Feet ironically quivering in red and orange Nike Shocks
A 243 pound lineman blubbering under his breath
He wants his mother, his daddy, his pillow, to go home
Another boy, Darrel, clenches his fists, readies for attack
Cassidy sits silently, emotionless, statuesque, frozen in time
And I . . . What do I do? . . . What do I do?
Do I flinch like Sir Gawain in the face of death?
Or do I . . . . . . What do I do?
God, may I never discover the answer to this evil query
God help us stop the violence consuming innocent children
Render CODE RED obsolete
Yet, CODE RED will parish not
For society feeds on fictional fame
Fifteen minutes that Warhol never could have painted
Now it will be duplicated like so many Campbell's Soup cans
CODE RED    CODE RED    CODE RED   CODE RED

Words

Smart people would agree
Healthy words are sharp
Unripe words die naive spirits
Self-confident word users find simple language annoying

Moral instruction, rude, insensitivity, wordy, wicked, blunt, and contemptuous
Feelings are not my purpose
Impish (silly), laughable, artificial, playful, clownish, and clever
Reactions I'm hoping to create
As a poet, words are always on my mind. I do, however, believe that words are worthless if they are not understood.

If $2 words aren't comprehended by the audience, they are not worth a cent!

First Born ( Blank Verse)
Chuck Jan 2013
A haunting stare with a serious note
Originates in a lad just thirteen
Ready to command or to set to task
Obedient, mature, and quick to rule
More comfortable with adults than peers
An old soul has he, loves cars from the past
Collects Civil War relics and antiques
Spends most his time reading and researching
Reads historical fiction, lost in time
Analyzes plants, insects, and ol' coins
He could be described like Chaucer's Cleric
"And gladly would he learn, and gladly teach."
He desires, especially, silver
Yet, gold and ex-presidents faces too
Protects younger members of his small clan
Only his hand will be attacking foe
It might be his fine grades, his quirk or two
That humbles his parents. Proudly they stand
And admire their first born miracle
A babe no more, his age will meet his soul.
I chose a serious form, blank verse, to match my son's attitude. I hope you like it.

Poets strive for confidence,

Angst, suffering, anguish,
Why do I lack confidence?

Thank God,

A master of characterization
After moments of gesticulation
Your characters become universal
Images play without dress rehearsal .
First created, an idealistic knight,
Who teaches the perfect techniques to fight.
Next danced a lad of ladies' desire .
Your words described me, "a lad of fire."
A counterfeit nun pilgrimed with the bunch.
She starved her dogs to have a second lunch,
Yet, you viewed her as whimsical and tame.
The way she faked, sung, and lied was a shame.
Still, I know this false Prioress today,
Characters such as this wont fade away.
The Miller modeled your retched Scot.
I too am Scottish, but retched I'm not!
Though we don't always view the world as one,
I have the faint soul of your pseudo son.
I too would flirt with the strong Wife if Bath,
And roam with the pilgrims down that God path.
Master at comic irony, you are
The church was corrupt, relics in a jar
Or a pardon for an extorted fee.
Friars with gifts for girls could not trick thee.
Twenty four of one twenty were finished,
But the affects will not be diminished.
They say you're number two in history.
For people like me, that's a mystery.
In a quill duel between Shakespeare and you,
You'd leap to number one, Shakespeare to two.
Shakespeare is great. I just love Chaucer's characters. This is my tribute to my greatest writer of all time. If you haven't read his tales, you must. You won't regret it. Thanks for reading!

Laughter Cries
Chuck Dec 2012
All I want to do is make people laugh
A quip, a bit of wit, a self put down
But it always seems to be a huge gaff
"Why do you always want to be a clown?"
I thought laughter made the world go around

Laughter is my energy, my power
It may be my only contribution
If only so, even for an hour
Why does it claim such harsh retribution?
They jeer, it destroys my constitution

My weakness is trying to build esteem
Esteem needs laughs to nurture its weak soul
The sad clown hides the makeup disguised dream
Laugh, like, even love me one and, PLEASE, all?
Laughter cries in the dark depths of my soul

All I want to do is make people laugh
A quip, a bit of wit, a self put down
But it always seems to be a huge gaff
Why must I always try to be a clown?
Laughter is what makes my world go around

Words Reveal, Words Shade

Poetry conceals the meaning
But reveals the emotions.
It speaks of love,
But lies about the pain.
It shines bright as it exalts,
But shades the motives within.
Poetry cleanses the soul,
Yet releases the beasts within.
