Arise my morning glory
Chris Jun 2015

Arise my morning glory
the coffees on to brew
A brand new day is waiting
to welcome me and you

I know that you are sleeping
so soundly in our bed
A wondrous sun is shining
so wake up sleepy head

I made some eggs and bacon
and toast with berry jam
Come push aside those covers
and take me by the hand

For not a cloud is showing
just perfect skies of blue
Arise my morning glory
I’m so in love with you

Counting Fireflies
Chris Apr 2015
-

I’ve counted every firefly
I think I counted twice
Tiny lights a’ flickering
The evening is so nice

Silently among the trees
Out here as nature sings
Watching while her children play
So many wondrous things

If I could only have one wish
I’d wish you here with me
Held so tight within your arms
Is where I’d rather be

But even though you’re far away
As nighttime does impart
Forever you’ll be close to me
Right here within my heart

So as I’m counting fireflies
I know you’re counting too
Two different spots, we spend as one
*To share our love so true

O’ sunrise, yon orchid shimmer’d glow
I pray, heed my humble plea,
cast your light o’er sleeping fields

I can't say it there
so I'll say it right here
as the sunrise now comes
and I hope you will hear

It lights the horizon
the sky turning blue
that means it's the time
to say this to you

Good Morning Beautiful
Chris May 2015
~

Cast among the downpour,
gates beneath dark clouds left open
The creek is rising, drowning underbrush
darkening tree trunks
moving swiftly the discarded
Collected at the walls of this home
stone and mortar slowly crumble

From a desperate vantage point
overlooking nature’s angry powers
I see a shape, a silhouetted aura,
eyelet gown of gold stitch, woven ribbon dreams
Mahogany hair flowing, eyes captivating,
floating atop muddied raging waters,
directing the flow with blown kiss persuasion

Swept away, barely a breath remains,
swallowing life in murderous gulps
Flailing intoxicated waves, undertow’s grasp…
when a hand reaches, fingers interlock
Glazing blue skies whisper in sunlit reflections,
ocean breezes soothe washed out tides,
as a sand dollar wishes on a seashell

Upon this beach I am now safe within her heartbeat,
tasting her Pina Colada lips, warm and sweet
I drink in her flavour neath palm tree shadows,
cool in the heat, but hot of her skin, salty, wet
and my heart hears the glistening, tingling my senses
drenching me in desire’s hard to contain,
as I endlessly drown in her perfect love
I wrote this poem first and then wrote a rhyming version of it that I will post at a later date. It is kind of long, so I am posting this one first.

Come take my hand

As beauty flows

Now reaching forth

As far as any
eye can see

In rainbow fields
where flowers play
Along the fence

Of colors bright
and pastel gleam
A butterfly,
a winding stream

While robins sing
in wondrous style
And nature brings

A dream beneath

Wafting Whispers
Chris Jun 2015
~

A chill does fall this evening air
Drifting soft neath heaven’s flame
Star light flickers we may share
For love that sings its own refrain

In chorus of a calling breeze
Aloft of wooded heights so high
When nestled soft upon my knees
To stare into this painted sky

For but this light that finds me here
In distant galleries so swept
A touch that never shall let go
Forever closely to be kept

I cling to every thought I bear
Now caught so tight of passion’s flow
Found blessings that we come to share
With praises which our hearts bestow

Along a tiny twisting way
So now defined by skies above
When journeys turn our minds astray
We reach back towards illumined love

As all that time shall come to pass
When waking bells their ring is true
My deed, my destiny, my task
To send this endless love to you

And here upon this weary ground
Between the shadows now at play
I dream within affection found
*In wafting whispers sent your way
Good night beautiful.

In your arms I long to be
As sunrise shines its light on me
Now on this bed so all alone
Wishing you would hurry home

It’s always you I truly miss
Your perfect smile and wondrous kiss
Days apart they seem so long
It’s just a few that you’ve been gone

But I don’t care just lying here
A couple days feels like a year
Your love my empty heart does yearn
As I now wait for your return

So hurry home, I need you so
I wish you never had to go
And if you must, know this is true

Coffee for two

Watching the sun
glowing soft in your eyes
Waking the dawn
with the bluest of skies

Hearing the birds
as they sing in the trees
Rose petal fragrance
afloat on the breeze

Butterflies flutter
so free on the air
Flower to flower

Gazing at you

*How was that poem
you read in the meadow
There as the sun shone
so warm on your skin

About a man and
a beautiful princess
And how her heart
he was trying to win

Slaying a dragon with
fire breath breathing
Saving her life with
a sword and with style

Bringing her jewels and
a rose from the garden
Whatever it took so
he could see her smile

She took his hand and
then thanked him so sweetly
Said that she needed not
flowers and stones

All she desired was a
man who would love her
Stand by her side,
never leave her alone

I am that man, said this
commoner kneeling
I will be faithful each
day of your life

Beautiful princess, you'd
make me so happy
If you would say yes
to being my wife

Needless to say there was
joy in the kingdom
Love was in bloom
as their life did begin

But did you know in this
poem you're reading
You were the princess
and well, I was him

And they lived happily ever. . . . . .

Ring damn it!!!
Chris May 2015
-

Dust collects on the closed slatted blinds
as carpet stains scream each time I walk through
leaving trails of bread crumbs and ashes,
though without you I always find my way back
to those corners in the dark
where cobwebs celebrate solitude
awaiting a face to capture
and laughing as they surf the web

A broken down couch of green fabric,
worn and tattered from unending naps
groans of feet propped up on its arms
(Blood flow to the brain…yeah whatever)
Beer bottle rings create a drunken mosaic
on a helpless coffee table
between scattered junk mail, wayward Doritos
and a cell phone with an almost dead battery

The one I stare at, waiting for it to chime,
beep, ding, play the Game of Thrones theme song,
whatever the hell it is supposed to do
when you call…when you call
as I am reminded how much I hate commercials,
all of these happy people running around
driving new cars, going out to dinner,
finding name brand shoes at discount prices

Why can’t I forget, lose those memories
File them away somewhere, like a drawer
in the kitchen I never use, it’s no use
You are there, always on my mind
that smile, those eyes, the times I felt truly loved
and I still laugh…me, loved?  Maybe that was the problem,
maybe that was my problem,
maybe I was the problem…ring **** it!!!!
Not a mood or frame of mind, just a poem. Every once in a while you need a little salt to offset the sugar

The spot on the

next to me where
you would sit
is empty tonight

There is only
one shadow
on the sidewalk
cast by the dim
porch light

were always two

climbing the
lattice work trellis
and the stars
twinkling in
the night sky
notice

I wonder if

Sitting out in the backyard
far from the glow of the city
in one of two lawn chairs
positioned facing east,
I gaze upon the rising moon,
watching in silence as it climbs
above a slowly fading horizon

And I think to myself…
this bright shining orb, is it lonely
sitting there all by itself
in the vast turquoise heavens
perhaps hoping for a beautiful star
to join it on a warm
August evening like this

When I see one appear,
a glistening gemstone,
dazzling in illumined brilliance
just to its right and I wonder
as I look to the empty seat
just to my right, is the moon maybe

I live in the sun
She lives in the snow
My days are hot
Hers ten below

She dresses in layers
I’m shorts and a T
She builds a snowman
I play at the sea

She’s starting a fire
My A/C is on
She’s under a blanket
I’m out on the lawn

But she is so hot
And I am a fool
Living down here
And not where it’s cool

I’m packing my bags
Now ready to go
Leaving the sun
I’m off to the snow

And yes it is cold
There might be a storm
But held in her arms
I know I’ll be warm

And live ever after
Until I am old
No, not in the sun
With her in the cold
Brrrrrrr...but it's worth it.

Another Day Dawns
Chris May 2015
-

I put out the fire,
the last of the flame
Swept up the ashes
and called out your name

Felt the first rain drop
that splashed on the ground
Listened for echoes,
there wasn’t a sound

Looked under trees,
behind every stone
I couldn’t find you,
I was all alone

Now I was worried,
a tear I did cry
Still I kept looking,
I just had to try

Walked to the sunrise
that waited for me
Came round a corner
and then I could see

There picking flowers,
you turned with a start
I saw your smile,
it ran through my heart

“These are for you,
they’re a morning bouquet
So you will think of me
throughout the day”

And then she kissed me,
took hold of my hand
Whispered “I love you”
said I was her man

I held her close
as we breathed in the air
A beautiful morning
again we did share

We watched the sun
as it rose up above
Another day dawns
we are so much in love

Changing Scenery

Amidst the changing scenery
as faces come and go
Names reflect the differences
of those we’ve come to know

Along a winding avenue
where store fronts sell their wares
Traffic lights of red and green
change too among the stares

Where sunshine breaks the foggy mist
and clear as any bell
A ringing forms about my ears,
a song I know so well

I look around and hope I see
this beauty I desire
A butterfly upon the wind
keeps soaring ever higher

And as I reach to grab a hold
with wings of pastel gleam
She flutters just beyond my reach
as if some kind of dream

I hang my head in misery,
another wasted day
The love that I was longing for
has somehow got away

Clouds now build in grey design
my smile has run aground
Happiness is not on sale
not anywhere I’ve found

Now trudging narrow sidewalks
quite keen to every crack
My focus finds a forward view
I just can not look back

When there upon the door step
these tear filled eyes they spy
Waiting near the welcome mat
my perfect butterfly

And suddenly the bluest skies
appear high up above
This day might not be bad at all

It is on these days
when my heart longs,
wandering down lonely paths
bordered by indecision

When thoughts drift
on empty breezes,
lost in northern wishes
rustling empty leaves falling

As sunset lingers
staring from distant horizons
in clouded thoughts
at the end of the day

While moonlight shimmers,
once a glow anticipated
are now an annoying light

And my world darkens
behind drawn curtains
in a desolate room

Held beyond oblivion,
shackles cut the flow,
chains of rusted memories
wrapped tightly
around my windmill brain
Squeezing life, in or out,
pooling on a jagged earth
Grimacing contorted gestures
and pointed fingers heckle
as I am dragged through the streets
of my misshapen thoughts
Over cobblestone alleys,
dark lonely walls splattered in
pig blood graffiti
spelling my name wrong
Dripping slowly, staining brick
and off color facades
changing by the day,
exposing expressions
of those shunned

The skies threatened
but only a single rain drop
fell, landing atop a large mountain

It felt worthless, the darkest skies,
a gloomy forecast,
for it was him…discarded,
tossed away from his home,
spit out by the mother cloud

He trickled down the side
through crevice and cracks,
“What difference does it make,
I’m nothing anyway” he sighed

Around twists and turns,
neath prickly shrubs, dodging thorns,
faster and faster he ran
sure now he was going to die
but who cares….

Unable to control his speed,
fear began to collect
the closer to the ground he got

This was it, the end,
he could see the earth
approaching rapidly,
“goodbye” he thought
“No one will miss me anyway,
I am a failure, good riddance”

But when he reached the bottom,
he splashed into a puddle
that was happy to see him,
for this lone drop of rain
would extend its life,
if only for a few moments more…
Someone will always want and need you....

Thinking that soon

Paying the price now
regardless the cost

Emptied my pockets

Spilled out the quarters,
the last of my cash

Lingered for hours
balloons in my hand
A bouquet of daisies
all part of the plan

And when the last thought
of the day it was gone
Made my way home
and I wished for the dawn

All of these questions
that my heart does ask
Trying my best
at the brink of the task

Still I am waiting

Staring out the kitchen window,
I watch as two butterflies flit between
the flowers, their colors brilliantly
reflecting the soft pastel glow
created by the morning sun
as I sip my first cup of coffee of the day

You are still asleep as I let
my mind wander to the plans we have
made for today, our special spot at the lake,
a picnic lunch under the shade of the
old maple tree I carved our initials in long ago,
I even bought your favorite wine

Driving to our destination, you singing along
with the radio, the wind blowing through
your dark brown hair,
that beautiful smile enchanting
me at every turn as I fall in love again
a thousand times over

We’ll relax allowing the day
to pass by slowly,
finding shapes in the fluffy clouds,
skipping stones on the clear water,
spending the hours sharing
all of the beauty nature has to offer

A more perfect day I can not envision, as you
sneak up behind me and putting your arms
around my waist, kiss me on neck then whisper sultry in my ear,
“Good morning handsome, can we just stay home today and play?”
As I turn to face you I answer wearing a huge smile…

Drank from the cabinet

Danced in the garden
with daffodils watching,
sat down to dinner
and found something sweet

Floated on marshmallow

Sang in a meadow

swam in the dessert
neck deep in the sand

Picked up a quarter
and called it a dollar

It don’t really matter because I love you

If hamburgers aren’t really made out of ham
And no one is sure what they put into spam
If something that’s old becomes something we knew
It don’t really matter because I love you

If plants that are planted are still called a plant
If uncles get mad when we step on an ant
If skies that are happy do always seem blue
It don’t really matter because I love you

If doors that are open are only a jar
If drinks are not served on a sweet candy bar
If vegetable soup is not really a stew
It don’t really matter because I love you

If kings in a downpour get caught in the reign
When birds lifting boulders are not called a crane
If flying the coop came from chickens that flew
It don’t really matter because I love you

Grammatically speaking, my title is wrong
And perhaps this poem goes on a bit long
But who cares as long as you know it is true
The one thing that matters, is that I love you

Angel you came to my window
watching me as I slept
tapping gently on the glass
until I opened my eyes seeing
the full moon illumining your face
as you blew me a kiss
and I smiled for I knew
*my dream had come true
The first line of this poem is the opening line to the chorus of
Bad Company's "Deal with the Preacher"

My flower, my precious one
to know your love
in the drifted rise of dawn and
honeysuckle flower
is to dream euphoric splendour
in the middle twilight glare,
the whispers of moonbeams
on incandescent sky star,
to breathe the breeze effervescent
flowing on the windswept
fields of petals of sunflower
under enchanting blue sky wishes,
to fall without cease in the love
beyond the borders of the north and
faltering horizons
of a desperate distant desire
My flower, my precious one
to know your love
is to know a world does exist
*for us only
Good morning beautiful

I wish I were deaf
so that I could not hear
your heart breaking because of me

I wish I were blind
so that I could not see
the tears I have caused on your face

I wish I were dumb
so that I, oh wait,
I’ve already got that one covered

Come let’s follow the path
to a heart beat in blossom
Dance in the streets
of a new foreign town

Drink to the evening
with moon beams now swaying
Under the stars
when there’s no one around

Singing a song
to a melody’s whimper
Sigh on the eve
of our first kiss delight

Walk hand in hand
down the road to forever
Sit by the ocean
be one with the night

Cling to a dream
we’ll relive in the morning
Capture the breeze
that does tickle your hair

Swim in the love
that now washes our bodies
Find everyday

Here under a sprawling maple,
feeling the chill of autumn’s first kiss
as it flows ‘cross emerald fields
gently swaying neath azure skies
on a pristine sunny day
illuminating a colorful tapestry
of gaily painted leaves . . .

we sit watching this wondrous
afternoon meander lazily by
as a blue jay sings a victory song
in the branches high overhead
and you smile at his melodic tune,
as I smile at the perfect beauty I see . . .

sitting right next to me

When the day is long and out of the blue you find a little heart or a "hi" pop up on your screen, it can make even the worst day better.
