I dream of the future
Chris Apr 2015
.

I dream of the future that brings me to you
The seasons, the hours, the love ever true
The singing and dancing and feel of your skin
That day when my arms holding you will begin

The sound of your voice as it whispers my name
The moon bright and full in the sky once again
The sunrise each morning as day it does start
My head on your chest and the beat of your heart

The rain that does fall every once in a while
The beauty that flows from your wonderful smile
The birds up above in the brightest blue sky
A walk in the park as the day passes by

Living and learning, discovering you
Loving each moment and all that you do
The feel of your kiss oh so tender to me
The wind and the waves that do come from the sea

Your hypnotic eyes and chocolate brown hair
The hint of your scent that I’m desperate to share
Your wonderful hands as they hold on to mine
Oh why can’t it be this way all of the time

This life that I lead just can not be same
Without the expression that comes with your name
I dream of the future that brings me to you
The seasons, the hours, the love ever true

Our Way Back Home
Chris Apr 2015
.

Walk with me, this path does lead us
Curved and twisted thru the fields
Tempting is the destination
And the secrets it may yield

Around the bend an entrance beckons
Long before the skies turn grey
Shrouded by the lost horizon
Wishing us to come and play

Golden grasses form the boundary
Step between the flowing lines
Quickly now the leaves are blowing
Listen as the wind it whines

Nestled in a frame like forest
Set amongst the view we see
Love awaits our storm chased folly
Calling out to you and me

Fade the darkness from your vision
Follow me to where I roam
Needless now to brave the weather
*For we have found our way back home

I draped your moonbeam heart
in a misty clouded veil
and sat on the dark side
keeping all of it its light to myself

Happily I waited for the stars to take notice
as I gazed out across the ebony skies
that now stared back in an empty silence…
suddenly I felt all alone

But I had the light, this beautiful,
loving, warming and enchanting glow all to myself
How could I feel alone, I had you,
what more could I need

Then I saw you were crying but I didn’t know why…
The light became dimmer with each tear that flowed
until it was now so dark I could barely see
“Please tell me why you are so sad?”

“My darling, it is true, the light of my heart
shines brightest for you, but there are others
who need its light as well and without it
their sadness becomes my sadness”

A chill ran across my skin at a speed not previously known
My heart began to break as I realized my error…
I felt selfish and ashamed, so I quickly lifted the veil
to share her wondrous light once again

When there before my eyes a billion stars began to glow
and so did her heart, brighter than before
We were contented as the universe rejoiced
for finally I could see…the dark side all along was me

Behind the thick crimson and gold thread curtains
he stands listening to the din of the audience
searching their seats for popcorn crumbs
while roaming hands brush against the legs
of those sitting closest

The young girls get the winks
and free drinks as the old men
vie for position, straightening their hair
and flashing thick wallets
from stretched out back pockets

He peeks through the slit in the
fancy brocade drapes to find a full house,
everyone is here, the self imposed mayor
wearing a handmade campaign button
shakes hands and seeks signatures

Mrs. Broadmore assigns seats in her row
as the little people gather around, telling her
how beautiful she is while hoping for a glimpse
of the diamond crusted gin filled flask she keeps
tucked away in her left garter

The lights dim as the depressed sulk to their seats in the balcony,
broken hearts fill the back rows closest to the bar,
cheerleaders in pink lipstick and short skirts, the football team
all ****** out of their minds and the debate club collect in the center
while the pretty people, the wealthy pose in the front rows

He gets the signal as the curtain slowly lifts
to the ceiling on well oiled pulleys
There is not a sound as he makes his way
to the microphone at center stage, dead silence
but he reads his poem anyway

It is obvious he is no Leonard Cohen
but he does his best as he recites the verses
he has penned especially for this evening
Upon finishing he stares out as two people
clap their approval and the others whisper and look away

His shoulders drop as he leaves the stage,
head hung low, crumbling the paper he had read from
and tossing it in the trash as he wonders aloud, “why, why do I do it?”
A janitor sweeping near the exit door hears him
and shaking his head replies, “Because you’re a poet, that’s why”

Another rainy morning spent staring through
a wiper smeared windshield
hoping to beat the next light, no such luck
When that song, our song or what used to be our song
sneaks in through these worn out speakers…again
and I listen…like a fool…again

The emptiness returns full force and I feel sick
It happens every time and every time I sound like a broken record
“Turn the **** thing off”, my mind shouts at me,
but still I am unable to hear over the singing sadness
and the sound of my heart breaking all over again,
God I’m pathetic

So here I am heading to the station earlier than usual
at least the traffic isn’t so bad, I guess because roosters can’t drive
Who schedules meetings this early in the morning?
Obviously someone unaware of the benefits of a good night’s sleep
Well look there, maybe my luck is changing, a parking spot right up front
But still, I have a feeling this is going to be a bad day

Ducking from the rain I pause at an advertisement for the rail line,
“Where the hell is the sunshine and blue skies that poster is showing?”
I think as I enter the car and find a seat, which wasn’t hard,
there are only three people on here at this hour,
two old ladies dressed for church or the doctor
and a kid with headphones, sleeping, now why didn’t I think of that?

I pull out my notebook when I see her hurrying for the already closing doors.
I jump up and hold them open so she can enter.
She is soaking wet, but ****, she is drop dead gorgeous,
dark hair and beautiful light brown eyes, she looks up and says “thank you”
with a smile that melts me right where I stand
“My pleasure” I answer as she takes the seat across from mine

She opens her ipad, I pretend to look at mine, but can’t take my eyes off of her
Now engrossed in whatever she's reading, swiping a finger across the screen
and then that smile appears again, I can barely breathe as my
heart tries to beat its way out of my chest. Dressed in a black skirt and top,
she looks like she’s just stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine…
“Oh crap, she just caught me staring”

I quickly glance down to her ipad then back up to her gorgeous eyes.
I feel like an idiot, or worse. When she giggles and says, “Poetry.”
“Poetry?” I ask in a voice stuttering from embarrassment
Waving her device she replies, "I’m reading poetry, do you like poetry?”
“Umm, yes, I, uh, do like poetry.”  She pats the seat next to her and says,
“Come, sit here. Let me read you one.”

Maybe this day won’t be so bad after all…
Just a day dream I was having. Thank you for reading

Hoping on Constellations
Chris Jul 2015

This humid night lingers,
along weeping fence lines
of tear drop perspiration
peppered in glistening spider webs
and I am missing you

Staring up at a melancholy sky,
counting hours on the face of the moon
while minute hand comets
slowly float by in orbiting arcs
getting nowhere fast

I see shadows reach beyond
June bug buzzings
to far away borders
of maple leaf pathways
and cherry blossom whispers,

And I know this is
where my heart longs to be
as I walk towards the North Star
hoping constellations

Head in the clouds
Chris Aug 2015
~

I’m wandering about the sky
My head up in the clouds
Often looking down below
At the large unruly crowds

Pointing up and laughing
Calling out my name
They think that I might listen
Now that is such a shame

Someone ought to tell them
It’s nicer up above
There aren’t as many people
So little push and shove

Perhaps a wayward sparrow
A balloon not held that tight
And yes indeed it gets quite dark
When day turns into night

There also is an angel
That I have come to know
Up here in the atmosphere
I truly love her so

Another way to see things
A different point of view
One that’s filled with happiness
Among these skies of blue

So you can keep your city
It’s too much of a chore
I like it up here in the clouds
With the one that I adore

I posted my dream
on the side of a lamp post
In hopes she would see it
as she wandered by

Taking a moment

Wearing a smile
and a gleam in her eye

A beautiful dream
filled with flowers and sunshine
Wonderful moments
I just have to share

Moonlight and poems
and walks through the country
Happiness found
every time I am there

So now I wait
down the street on a corner
On my front porch
that I just painted green

Waving to neighbors
who think I am crazy
They can't believe
that I posted my dream

That's when I see you
your chocolate hair flowing
Riding your bike
that looks like it's brand new

You stop and look
then you smile my direction
The message I posted
said my dream is you

The vision of your beauty
surrounds me on this night
So many stars are watching,
we move within their light

To dance upon a moonbeam
with you so close to me
Among the constellations
for all the world to see

Within my arms I hold you,
your heartbeat keeping time
As twilight is upon us
and I do call you mine

Floating soft and slowly
to melodies we hear
The cosmos singing love songs
is music to our ears

So kiss me as we’re dancing,
I’ve never needed more
Than you with me this evening

full moon
rose above the

slowly upon a

It was beautiful
and glowing bright,

so was I

Then I thought,
I know you love
watching the full moon
and I know you love me,
so maybe neither

alone tonight...

now I am
glowing too
I am never alone when

“Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight”

The winter wind is cold
as I stand in the yard
staring up at a
the evening stars
we once shared

When the ground crumbles,
giving way beneath my feet,
frozen earth opens up,
swallowing me
into a deep abyss

And as the surface falls,
caving in, creating
a darkness like
I have never known
I whisper, “thank you”

For soon spring will come,
and new grass will grow
over the disturbed land,
erasing every trace,
that I ever was
The first stanza is obviously not mine...I can not find the author or composer's name to give credit to.

enchanting my heart and

And like this beautiful moon

Sitting on this lonely shore
between sandcastles built
earlier in the day
by happy fingers
with buckets of sand,
seashells and laughter

I can almost hear
their echoes on the surf
as it moves closer,
white frothy foam
reminders that each day
must come to an end

I watch as lights
sail out towards the horizon
becoming lost among
the multitude of stars
now twinkling cheerfully
on the quiet evening sky

A reclusive blue moon
weeps a doleful glow
and I can feel its
desperate pull
thinking aloud
I know how it feels

And as the silhouette
of a ship, not one that
passes in the night
but it feels the same,
slowly disappears,
a tear falls my cheek

I sigh and wave
a half hearted farewell,
knowing it’s not forever
though it might as well be
because I am missing
you already

When I see a shooting star
streak across the sky
and I make a wish
that you have a
safe travels,
endless smiles
and you hurry back...

She gasped for air

happily from twin shadows

Thrashing legs and
pleading expressions
in the heat of this day
curved a wicked smile upon his face

Tears burned lines on her cheeks

The Golden Feather

*I watch the days
fly by
on multicolored wings,
each feather
a memory,
a moment in my life,
that will soon
be over

Dark colored feathers
are bad memories
Blue are sad
memories
Reds and yellows
are the good times,
there are many
of them

But there is one
that is brighter
than all others,
it glimmers gold
as the wind lifts
these wings,
higher and higher
towards my
final day

You see
my time is short
on this earth,
the hours are passing,
and I wonder
will I be able to
take my wings
when I go

For if not,
then I shall demand
that I take
one feather,
the golden one,
for it holds all
of my memories
of you
If I can only take one memory with me when I go, I want it to be my memories of you.

The days have left,
disappeared faster than I could think
Waved goodbye from platforms high above
every dream that never came true,
each wish that remains unfulfilled
Scribbled papers scattered on an abandoned desk,
poetry written in bled out emotions
crumble and tossed…jump shots
missing the goal completely

Though memories in gilded frames,
moments forever frozen in time,
words never to be forgotten
gather warmly in my heart for
I am so fortunate and thankful to
have had this opportunity
to know you, to love you
and to share…to share our lives

And as I bid farewell to the last chance,
that lost horizon fading
I send sincerely the confirmation,
the truth in whispered hopes
that happiness is abundant,
smiles are forever,
and though it can't be me,
you find the absolute love
you deserve…

Beckoning her
Chris Jul 2015
~

She reached for the ribbons of her gown
not knowing why, but she held them in her hand
as she floated through the ever changing mist,
whites and grays in a swirling pattern,
mesmerizing in blends and shifts,
blurred yet possessing a clarity she could not explain
or cared to think about right now

She looked down on herself in her bed sobbing,
clutching tightly a dampened pillow, lonely, missing…
now confused as a peaceful awareness
wrapped about her warmly,

caressing her spirit, washing away the pain,
the sadness, the torment which she fought now to remember
as it drifted below, creating new shadows about her feet
but distant, never forgotten, she couldn’t, it was promised…

Once more the satin ribbons were pulled gently, guided
as if a feather laced kite on a silver string embracing blue skies,
dancing about in the slow rhythm, spun in clouded dreams,
breathless she soars higher, it seems towards the sun
or perhaps a light of a different source, it felt soft, cool
beckoning her and she yearned for it…
for some reason it felt right

Stars swept past her in wiry glistening designs
like a sparkler at a summer cookout waved through the air
in abstract lemonade glowings and apple pie tickles
and she smiled, for the first time in a long time as the
moon disappeared on the horizon, embracing this experience
She continued allowing the tender tugs on her ribbons to
move her freely, when she felt something, it was a hand on
hers, helping her hold the ribbons, it felt familiar,
safe, comforting

When she saw his eyes, as clear as she had ever seen anything,
deep and friendly, soothing
just as she had remembered…remembered?
He took her by the hands and he came even more into focus
“Hi there, I have missed you,”  he sighed and she knew it was him
He was here, wherever here was, holding her now as he said,
“I promised I would love you eternally, I couldn't have you then,
so I have waited for you"
She cried , happy tears as she whispered. “You did, you did, is this…”

“Shhh,” he placed a caring finger to her lips…

pine needles swishing
amidst fireflies at play on a warm

We sit in quiet anticipation
as a bright full moon keeps watch
from its cosmic perch,
illuminating our magical evening

It is almost time as we see
the big dipper come into view
directing our focus to the grove
behind the chinaberry shrubs

We can hear them giggling
as tiny feet run atop fallen leaves
creating little crackles echoing
beyond the illumined forest canopy

When suddenly crickets and cicadas
perform a mesmerizing melody
wafting from tree to tree
and you point eagerly to the opening

As twelve little pixies appear, dancing in a circle,
singing along with the nighttime tune
Iridescent wings shimmer and flutter
as does our hearts watching

It only last a few moments and then they are gone,

I read a poem today...
it was based on a wonderful dream,
two people were madly in love,
holding each other tenderly as
a lemon sherbet sun rose
beyond a blooming hibiscus
being visited by a hummingbird,
bringing a soft apricot glow
through the white lace curtains
flowing on cool morning breezes
as they kiss passionately,
greeting the new day

It was an extremely beautiful poem,
one that I wish I had written, but...
more than that, I found myself
wishing that the dream
that inspired it...
had been about me

Off in a cabin set deep in the woods
Next to a lake where the fishing does thrive
The opposite shore is another the same
Someone is there, there’s a car in the drive

I hope they are quiet and keep to themselves
I really needed this time for so long
There is some movement, the door opens up
Wow, she is gorgeous, maybe I am wrong

Off in a cabin set deep in the woods
Where the deer and the squirrels do roam
Across a small lake, a cabin like mine
It appears there is somebody home

A man stands ashore with his hand to his eyes
Squinting, the sun is so bright
He's looking my way, so I give him a wave
I'm glad I won't be alone here tonight

I think she is waving, yes, I’m sure she is
A nice fishing pole in her hand
I start waving back with a smile on my face
This was not part of my plan

That is a problem, I have to admit
I planned this alone, that is true
But here in the woods with a beautiful girl
And it seems that she likes fishing too

Smiling real big, he hops in his boat
Making his way to my side
"Hi there" he says, "he's so handsome" I think
"I'm going fishing, would you like a ride?"

I’d love to of course but I’ve just now arrived
“Would you like to come in for a while?
I just need to unpack and have a quick bite”
“Let me help you” he offers with a smile

I gather her bag from out of the car
And set it just inside the door
The fishing can wait, we’ve plenty of time
There’s something else now to explore

She’s wearing shorts and a light emerald T
And green Converse All-Stars that match
I never thought as I drove up today
Something this perfect I’d catch

I think he looks a bit familiar,
Is it possible that he might be
The same boy I kissed that summer
When I turned seventeen

I turn to unpack my groceries
Not over thinking things much
When the tap on my shoulder startles me
I jump in his arms, and our lips gently touch

I really didn’t mean to frighten her
But it was so cute to hear her yelp
And her lips, I think I have felt them before
“Just wondering if I can help?”

She hasn’t let go and neither have I
I stare in her gorgeous brown eyes
And then I remember that time long ago
It’s her, I just realized

He recognizes me now, what does he think
I can feel my face start to blush
I hold onto him still, it feels good in his arms
I could leave but there's no need to rush

The chemistry is there, after all these years
I want to be alone with him here so much
He's grown tall and handsome, into a man
Now I'm dreaming of kisses and such

I never imagined I’d see her again
And definitely not in this way
But now that I have her right here in my arms
I’m thinking right here I will stay

I kiss her again and she doesn’t pull back
It’s much more than I could be wishing
It lasts for a while and that’s okay with me
Who cares if we ever go fishing?
A collaboration with my beautiful girlfriend and yes, she does love to fish.  :)

The breeze is cool,
fragrant wisps through
clinging vines braided
in abstract patterns
as I try to gather
my bearings

I can see the sun
through the forest
falling lower in the sky
reflecting on the
calm flowing waters
of this small stream
I have been following
for what seems to be hours

Carp and minnows,
orange, black and gray
swim happily
with little care though
I am becoming worried now,
my body aches from the walking
but it feels good
the air is still sweet
as I hear an owl
in the darkness
of the treed canopy
greeting me

I come to a clearing,
tall grasses sway
and I see the sunset
blooming like a prized rose,
petals awash in bright pastels
on the horizon

I sit for a spell
gazing upon the
wonders of nature,
thinking back on
what I have seen,
what I have experienced
and what I am witnessing
right now and finally realize

I am not lost at all…

Right next to me…
Chris Jun 2015
~

Outside of the window
thrives a large ornamental
pomegranate, its delicate
fragrant flowers

bloom in bright orange,
tiny carnation like buttons
on a lush green coat
in full springtime attire

completely blocking
my view of the gorgeous
spring sunrise glowing
just beyond the glass

But I don’t mind because
the most beautiful vision
my eyes could ever see
is lying right next to me…

and I would have it

As I wonder
Chris Nov 2015

*A chilly morning
greets me beneath
dark November skies
and silent stars
as another new day
finds me
thinking of you

And as I gaze
across somber fields
to the northern horizon
my thoughts change
as I wonder
if you are thinking
of me too
Most mornings for me

Every Word (is you)
Chris Nov 2015

*When writing a poem
I think about you
That’s pretty much
All I have to do

Thoughts begin turning
Words soon appear
Whispers in stanzas
Emotions are clear

Phrases expressing
Infinite dreams
Penned within verses
Magical scenes

Melodic wishes
Everywhere found
Lines become music
A euphoric sound

Wondrous affection
Written for you
Promising always
My love is true

Now you know why
It's easy for me
You are every word
Of my poetry
Well, the love poems.  :)

Choices
Chris Nov 2015
~

*Life is filled with choices
so many there to make
Right or wrong we do it,
chances that we take

Often we face failure,
sometimes we succeed
We'll just go on trying
if it's something we believe

Yes mistakes will happen,
we see it everyday
That doesn't mean to worry,
just listen as I say

We've just one life we're living,
we ought to have some fun
So make the choice to smile,
before your time is done

For it is your decision,
it's yours and yours alone
Which path you tend to wander
of everything you've known

And when you say it's final
I hope that I will see
A choice made from within your heart
and you have chosen me

I planted my heart
Chris Dec 2015
~

*I planted my heart
now broken and shattered
So deep in the earth
for nothing much mattered

Then sat on the ground,
my teardrops now flowing
When before my eyes
I saw something growing

The tiniest stem
from the dirt was breaking
A beautiful green
by now was breathtaking

When then came a bud
this afternoon hour
It seemed like real soon
there would be a flower

From what I now saw,
that came into being
My face wore a smile
of what I was seeing

For there on that stem
was something alluring
Filled with such joy
and love over pouring

A friendship it seemed
had grown from our parting
I dug up my heart
the healing was starting

And knew on that day,
my garden endeavor
Had bloomed as a friend
I’d have for forever

Yes there is still love,
I can’t stop the caring
And that I will keep
for now I am sharing

My life with this girl
with smiles and laughter
And we’ll be best friends
happy ever after

An empty throne - part 1
Chris Jul 2015
~

For this of castled velvet throne
A queen does weep a single tear
Bleak shadows of this night have grown
To cast upon her heart this fear

Reflection polished marble floor
Her silhouette of humbled reach
Now shutters via nightmare’s pour
Alone of bridges fought to breach

Beyond the window valleys sleep
Soft candle flame in slumbered night
Flickering her pain felt deep
Burning through in cautioned light

An empty throne aside her heart
Its warmth now chilled of worried feel
That day her love he did depart
Read messages to long conceal

Her single kiss of cherished due
A farewell bid, pled safe return
Lost amidst this sorrowed view
And loneliness again did burn

As if the dawn had been his shield
In misty haze on moor’s harsh breath
Of forest frame it had concealed
A moment quick of arrow’s death

She takes this single tear she’s cried
Into a glass of liquid clear
This droplet of her love applied
Her broken heart to wish him near

And brings this potion to her lips
Such bitter taste slow going down
A whispered hope in swallowed sips
To then remove her saddened crown

Upon his throne of gold now rests
She breathes one final moment pure
Her eyes now close of wishful quest
*To be with her sweet king once more

Composed of love

Piano keys tickled
in soft lullaby melodies
echo in harmonic measures
neath an ivory moon
tuned midst an ebony sky,
shimmering sonatas in
sustained twilight concertos
waft in sensuous tempos,
acoustic sighs sing
as silhouettes on
candlelit curtains,
caliginous shadows of love
sway together in
rhythmic duet motions,
dancing to the ecstasy
of this symphonic evening

I collected the kinetic swirls
of differing shades
in the dizzying reflections
of how you made me feel

Whirling affects
blurred in calliope sonnets
and brass ring reachings
while riding a paisley tiger

My pockets filled
with these mesmerizing emotions
sculpted of Ferris Wheel desires
and carousel dreams of you

Until suddenly colored lights flickered,
the music slipped a gear
and the ride came to a screeching halt,
with me holding on for dear life

Flung to the floor between sneaker prints
and paper cotton candy tubes
I watched you walk away with the stuffed
giraffe in your arms, it waved goodbye

While a checkerboard monkey giggled
as he emptied my pockets
leaving me with nothing
but a broken heart and a long walk home
