Miles of nothing,
beige on beige on beige
The sun is screaming,
blistering my skin,
draining me slowly
as breath is heated
and tastes bitter
Shoulders slung low
I can’t stand straight,
bent over struggling,
nothing is anywhere
and nowhere is here

Leaving footprints
for the wind dancers,
black feather fathers,
winged circlers
High above, watching
sifting time
in weakened increments,
hourglass patterns of
falling granules
sinking deeper

Water is a dream
and this dream, a nightmare
for it is there,
just ahead, I can see it glistening
but it does not exist
nothing exists,
as the oasis in my mind
dries up, leaving
empty indentations
on horizontal planes, flat lands
of arid emotions
drifting in and out
reaching for…
reaching
It sure is hot here today.

Today there is no sunrise
No dew upon the lawn
No hummingbirds a’ flutter
A lonely empty dawn

The marigolds are sleeping
All butterflies are still
Just vacant silent shadows
Upon my window sill

You’re on a distant journey
And I can’t have you near
To tell me that you love me
I wish that you were here

So I’ll just keep on dreaming
For in my dreams I find
Your arms are wrapped around me
If only in my mind

I hold on tight the covers
This feeling I will keep
Today there is no sunrise
*So I’ll just stay asleep
Good morning beautiful

Reaching
for stars,
I grabbed
the brightest,
it was you,
only to find
happily...
you were
reaching for
*me too
Good night beautiful

Tonight I sent a poem
streaking 'cross the evening sky
Sprinkled it with stardust
so it'd glisten flying by

Wishing you would see it
when you look up where you are
To find the words "I love you"
written on a falling star
Good night beautiful

The spot on the
front porch step
next to me where
you would sit
is empty tonight

There is only
one shadow
on the sidewalk
cast by the dim
porch light
where there
were always two

The wisteria
climbing the
lattice work trellis
and the stars
twinkling in
the night sky
notice

I wonder if
they notice…

*I am empty too

Sitting on this lonely shore
between sandcastles built
earlier in the day
by happy fingers
with buckets of sand,
seashells and laughter

I can almost hear
their echoes on the surf
as it moves closer,
white frothy foam
reminders that each day
must come to an end

I watch as lights
sail out towards the horizon
becoming lost among
the multitude of stars
now twinkling cheerfully
on the quiet evening sky

A reclusive blue moon
weeps a doleful glow
and I can feel its
desperate pull
thinking aloud
I know how it feels

And as the silhouette
of a ship, not one that
passes in the night
but it feels the same,
slowly disappears,
a tear falls my cheek

I sigh and wave
a half hearted farewell,
knowing it’s not forever
though it might as well be
because I am missing
you already

When I see a shooting star
streak across the sky
and I make a wish
that you have a
safe travels,
endless smiles
and you hurry back...
*to me
Good night beautiful

She touched
my heart
leaving forever
imprints
eternally ingrained
in swirling
patterns
of my every
dream coming
