Time
cheryl love Jul 2014
Blowing the seeds
to the wind
scattering time
the seeds of time
The hands of the
grandmother clock chime
just like the watch of mine
draped around my wrist
The seeds kissed
my face not the clocks
as the pendulum rocks
to and fro
been nowhere but has
somwhere to go.
Not too fast but nice and slow.
The seeds blow
over and under
through hail and thunder
rain and shine
Time is all mine
I have it in the palm of my hand
Like little streams of falling sand
which measures time.

Someday
cheryl love Mar 2015
I strolled slowly
It was a Sunday
but it was fine.
I was not but it's Sunday.
I needed time.
I stood by your grave
on the Sunday
I wondered why.
I started to cry.
But it is not allowed.
I screamed out loud.
Why did you go
on a Sunday
Why?
Another day
but not Sunday.
Someday it will be my Sunday.

His hand held her waist
Sweeping her around the dance floor
It was movements done in haste
and she is begging for more.

Their legs do not tire, moving to the beat
Their eyes met lovingly at the very start
Their smile is working in unison with their feet
Each and every muscle playing its part.

Round and round she is swept
Securing the romance in a lover's knot
Making sure the special moments are kept
and the music is not forgot.

What exactly gives you the right to call me names
When you are not perfect yourself I'll have you know.
Maybe in your head its just your idea of fun and games
Makes you feel big, your own little floor show.

Well I have got news for you, you can sling your hook
I do not want you in my life, that is all I have to say.
I am moving on, I need to read from a better book
Because I have feelings, and i want a better day.

Why Must We Worry
cheryl love Sep 2015
We worry over money, we worry about the weather
While some poor folk have none of the above together.
They have nothing but the clouds over their heads
Nothing, no roof, no water or make do sheds.
They have plenty to fear, worry and dread
Searching for food or indeed for a clean bed.
If we gave something, to those that are without
It would ease their pain, ease their doubt
So for those with nothing, please give them something
Because our worries are nothing, but to them its everything.

Their Story Was Told

The rigid strength it had felt cold like a fridge
the structure, the sheer length of the old bridge
never ending like a circular disc
cut throat business a huge risk.
The river flowed violently
they pushed on silently.
an echo was heard underground
it was a shrill, an evil sound
The atmosphere was flipping
the water was dripping
A situation they wanted to sever
the nightmare went on forever
The pace now became slow
the river ceased to flow
the memories they could keep
the river fell asleep
dried, crusted and wrinkled
they cried, their skin crinkled.
They were cold and old
their story was told.

Finding The Right Words
cheryl love Apr 2014
Choice, there is so much choice
But there are hidden traps.
Say the wrong thing on any shape or form
Then it is back to the drawing board.
There are no maps
to guide you,
To special flags along your way
Mistakes you can ill afford
just watch what you say.

"Hello dear, had a nice day"
Her husband red faced pushes his way into the door.
"Oh dear, I say!"
He promptly slumps to the floor.
She is thinking about sending for the doctor
as she rushes to the telephone.
Perhaps he had taken ill suddenly
when he was coming home.
Perhaps the stress at work has got to him
She hunts for the right words to say.
She puts her hand on his heart for rhythm
She knew this was the right way.
She'd seen it on the telly a thousand times
But then something struck her eye.
The shape of pink perfect lips on his neck
and now she realised why.
He'd been up to no good
flirting with the women at length.
She smelt his shirt for evidence
and in a rage she picked up strength.
"What have you been doing, you stupid man,
Your place is here at home with me
Not galavanting around with other women"
She'd seen it all before on the TV.
She became hot under her collar
and went to fetch her bag to leave.
He muttered something, she couldn't quite hear
How could he after all these years deceive.
She thought he said the word daughter
She of course had got the wrong end of the stick.
Too many incorrect words had been spoken
She went out the door all too quick.
The man died on the floor, heartbroken
Their daughter laid a rose on his grave.
The relationship she had with her mother shattered
and one she didn't want to save.
Jumping to conclusions, well is all too easy
Harder to find the right words to say
We all make mistakes, we are all human
Pressure, is tricky at the end of the day.

A Nonsense Poem
cheryl love Apr 2015
The bird flew upside down
Walking right into trouble
The bowl in the sink coughed
a bit and then burst its bubble.
The fridge door flew shut
and opened for the world to see.
Then sang in a muffled voice
"Come and buy your cheese for free"
Cheese on toast, the order of the day.
The bread said "we dont do toast"
"Are you mad, it is Saturday.
"What does that have to do with it"
shouted the knife from the fork drawer.
The cheese grated its words with venom
and the tomato sauce asked for more.
"Have you all gone mad" sang the fridge
Well maybe they had. The bird flew out again
and walked home  confused.  I am.

If I Were A.........
cheryl love Jun 2014
Interesting, isn't it
That we sometimes long
To be someone else
Whether its right or wrong
That is the case.
Whether it is a scarecrow
strapped to a wooden frame
A dancer in a pretty pink dress
The dream seems to be the same
In a manner of speaking, I guess.
A champion swimmer,
A footballer scoring the goal
A hero saving an important soul.
A doctor, a driver, a diver
Photographer, artist,
A special person, a survivor.
We all think the same. but at the end of the day
We are ourselves, you are you, we all play
we all work, sleep, no matter what colour
skin we are sitting in, we are the same.
So join hands because if I were a me
I would want to be me all over again.

Waiting
cheryl love Dec 2015
Sitting around
waiting for the big moment
endless hours skim around
the bare face clock
The clock wont lie
It has one face not two
Unlike the town hall clock
that must tell some stories.
Waiting around
not in a busy crowd
but in rows, on lonely chairs
looking to one's left
then to the right.
Then back to the floor
Waiting in rows
nowhere to go
just through the cold door
Seem to be waiting forever more.
Waiting for Christmas so it seems
it will be here quicker than you know
papers will be torn,
on the day A Baby was born
Waiting for the New Year
Bells ring out, lights adorn the sky
another year goes flying by
A new year will ring
and what will it bring
happiness, or yes I hope so
I will wait gladly for that one.

Watching
cheryl love Sep 2017
Tiny bubbles appear
Surfacing as if on time
The Kingfisher waits
more bubbles climb
to the edge of fear
then air saturates
there is a splash
a beak pierces bubbles
and it golden capture
surfaces not through wanting
or needing - it cannot escape
the beady eye of the Kingfisher.
He was hungry, cannot blame him
he waited and he watched.
A fisherman smiles, he waits and he watches
for hours upon end, without any promise.
The Kingfisher still perches and he waits
and with his belly full of food, he half smiles.

Happiness
cheryl love Jan 2016
They say happiness is a gift
Does it come with its own bow?
Wrapped in nice paper in a box
this is something I need to know.
I should think this is hardly likely
Happiness comes from one's heart
Happiness spreads and is infectious
It tears the sadness very much apart.
Smile and the world smiles back at you
Laugh and they will do the same.
That is common knowledge is it not?
We are all playing the same game!
So spread a little joy, smile and then laugh
Happiness is there for all to spread
Instead of frowning, chuckle and giggle
and bring a little happiness instead.

Whispers In The dark
cheryl love Apr 2016
They came
and they went.
She recognised the scent.
She followed her instinct grudgingly
Silently, gently and lovingly.
She waited and she waited.
which she absolutely hated.
She heard them again in the silence
Were these whispers in defiance
Were they meant to be heard?
The unforgiving spoken word.
Spoken from the grave she thought
the evidence she sought
Why her? Why now? Why?
She shed a tear, but could not cry.
She wanted to whisper back - she did try.
But no words came, she tried to scream
it was like a nightmare, never ending dream.
The voices left a clear frightening mark
Why did she hear the whispers in the dark?

Precious Love

Love is a precious thing
Hold on to it as much as you can
It definitely makes the old heart sing
I'm its biggest fan.
I dislike confrontations, splitting hairs
I would sooner just keep the peace
Whilst the other is kicking chairs
and his anger is on the increase.
Is it not easier to say "Oh well"
and just leave the situation be
it creates tension, a living hell
which is no good for him or me.
Love is a precious thing
hold on to it as much as you can
enjoy all the benefits it may bring
unless you have another plan.

Moments
cheryl love Jun 2017
There are some moments
that can stand the test of time
There are some days when
I wished the clock wouldn't chime
Moments like this can fall
into the empty hourglass
labelled just a a waste of time
The man in the repair shop
who has more faces than the townhall clock
pulling fast ones till it is time to drop
Putting in batteries with a grin
saying he has fixed the watch
with all the skill acquired over many years
replacing a battery is as cheap as chips
then his bill has you reduced to tears.
Moments, endless moments captured on film
replaying your youth gets the old brain moving
capturing time in a lens then freezing the frame
moments like this are worth every penny.

The Man At The Back
cheryl love Apr 2017
"He that shouts loudest will be heard"
Said the man at the back of the queue
The rest of the people waiting observed
to see what he would actually do.
"Them that live the longest they know alright!"
The people waiting were now slightly bemused.
They wondered if in his head he was quite right
or if indeed he was just very confused.
The man at the back went very quiet in the queue
An air of mystery started to spread
They wondered if he was real like you do
He that shouts the loudest will be heard he had said.
Well that man at the back did not exist
We all have a voice in which to express how we feel
That being the case how could we resist
Them that live the longest know that that is real.

They were sipping lemonade
through a striped straw
A woman with a huge smile
was buffing the polished floor
There were a couple of guys
as we walked through yesterday
they noticed me in an instant
as I looked at their display.
They asked me if I was alright
They were extremely kind
They were also very polite
knowledgeable and refind.
The arcade was busy
together with the excitement it brings
I glanced at those men
and I noticed they had wings
They were angels
send by God for sure
They were helping those suffering
and  those that were poor.
They were definitely angels
angels that touched my soul.

How Long Will This Last?
cheryl love Sep 2015
Stepping over the clover
along the river bank.
I suddenly had a thought
and then my heart sank.
How long will this last,
this beauty, this delight?
When all around there is destruction
and the never-ending fight.
Trees are being chopped down
walls that keep in the warm.
Now we are left with emptiness
and exposed to every harm.
Birds will no longer fly free
there will be no trees for them to perch.
Instead there will be just cloudy skies
and there will be the never ending search.
Searching for food that does not grow
Looking for water, clean water to drink.
Filth has exterminated every fish in the sea
and every brain has the inability to think.
How long before there will be nothing but rubble
Every building being took to its knees.
How long before civilisation packs up completely
There will be no land left, just raging, angry seas.
Nobody wants to see this happen, the world come to this
Let us all do something about it now and take action
Build relationships, end wars, make your peace
Put smiles on faces and end sadness, end destruction.
Shake hands, bring war to an end, make it a thing of the past
a little boy drowned, washed to shore, a crying shame
Think to yourself, I can make a difference, I can make peace
Then you have yourself to thank, be proud and have no one to blame.

Travel in your mind, to a land beyond

rolling away on a puffy cloud of surprise
diverting your travels to somewhere unknown.
Thrashing on waves, speeding down a track
as black as your hat, the unknown thought is back.
rolling away on a puffy cloud of an enormous promise
warp factor ten thousand to your dreams.

Six carrier bags, handbag and an umbrella as well
My pockets are full of receipts, it is like a living hell.
Tempers are boiling, my blood pressure’s sky high
Feet are throbbing and I am ready to cry,
My mind had gone blank and my clothes are a mess
What I look like is anyone’s guess.
My face is without make up and my hair need a comb
What I would really like to do is to go on home.
But I have to keep going, I have to shop
If I stand in one more queue I will drip.
My feet are now yelling that they hate me
And all that I need now is a good cup of tea.
My time is spent in the endless queue
And I am desperately searching for a gap to squeeze through.
I am talking to strangers with a diplomatic smile
All stood like robots in a single file.
Next year, I think I will save my precious time that I get
And do all my shopping on the world wide web,  the internet.

She just stood there hair in curlers
wired up to the mains
"What time do you call this?"
"My watch stopped" he claims.

Any excuse you are very late
He had no idea what she meant
He was wondering if this could wait
He was shaking and his key was bent.

"I expect I had a little drink!", came his reply
and waited to accept his fate.
She seemed to be smiling and he wondered why
she looked at her calender and especially the date.

"It is my birthday, I waited and waited for you
I just wanted to see you for goodness sake"
I waited and waited and didnt know what to do
I got angry, and in my madness ate all of my cake.

"Oh" he said.

A word where there is no trust
To have that trust in someone
Is as absolute must.
But maybe sometimes that someone
Does not wish to be about
Maybe that someone sometimes is in doubt
Putting that word to one side
Maybe he or she wants to confide
Because maybe someone shouts sometimes
And sometimes that someone is deep inside.

She Was Poor
She was poor, a serious lack of finance
But she loved that dress all in pink
And all she wanted to do was to dance
Skate and dance at the Ice Rink.
She knew she could do it, she just knew
It as if she was built with wings to fly
She’d show them what she could do
If only she had the opportunity to try.
She returned home with tears in her eye
Who could she ask for help and persuade
She went to sleep with a very deep sigh
Dreaming of dancing on a nice shiny blade.
The new morning came and it came with news
She had been sent a parcel, a large one at that
She scrambled to open it, could it be new shoes
Or was it a big box for a rather large hat?
No it wasn’t – it contained a pair of blades
For dancing at the local ice rink
She put them on before her dream fades
And imagined she had that dress in pink.

If Only It Could Speak
cheryl love May 2017
The stream was transparent
like a sky without a cloud
Reflections were apparent
as fresh as a field just ploughed.
The water trickled, it just fell
as if nothing mattered at all
sweeping across where otters dwell
up to the crashing waters in the fall.
It was delightful, refreshing to hear
crystal clear waters along the verge
creeping gingerly to the weir
where fish peep then submerge.
Bullrushes like brooms stand guard
like soldiers in a regimented row
each having such a high regard
where each plant should grow.
Trees shade the dappled splashes
of the odd little leak
up to where the foamy spray crashes
along the stone lined creek.
Kingfishers, as blue as the sea
cradle their catch for grim death
snuggling up in their nests in the tree
living the moment to catch their breath.
The call of the blackbird with a golden beak
singing for its star in the show
oh if only this gorgeous bird could speak
it would tell you things you know.

Sadness is part of the lonliness clan
It leads to depression
Maybe this will happen, or not
Spinning around your mind playing
Gently messing with your anxiety levels
Always with a fixed smile on its face

Sadness is a gloom over one's forehead,
heavy like bricks attached with a ribbon
Maybe this will happen, or not
Whizzing along the lanes of your mind
Gently mixing with your anxiety levels
Always with a wonderful smug look on its face
Not yours.
Revenge is sweet so they say, overcome sadness
Force a smile across your face and over ride it
See the smile being squeezed from its face
Not yours.
Well worth the battle. Overcome it.
