Some People
cheryl love May 2017
They say things
and they wonder why we laugh
Because we have to giggle
just now and then.
See the funny side
and there is one.
Just open up your chuckle muscles
to the world
let rip, let the tears of laughter flow
Just let go.
Loosen up
let go of worries
they will come back
but in a better light
just laugh like you have never laughed before
smile the biggest grin on earth
show those sparkly white teeth
go on have a good giggle.
It will be infectious.
Smile and the whole world smiles with you.
Try it. Do it now.  See it works. Im smiling.
Now im giggling.  Now I am howling with laughter.
Are you?

Finding The Right Words
cheryl love Apr 2014
Choice, there is so much choice
But there are hidden traps.
Say the wrong thing on any shape or form
Then it is back to the drawing board.
There are no maps
to guide you,
To special flags along your way
Mistakes you can ill afford
just watch what you say.

"Hello dear, had a nice day"
Her husband red faced pushes his way into the door.
"Oh dear, I say!"
He promptly slumps to the floor.
She is thinking about sending for the doctor
as she rushes to the telephone.
Perhaps he had taken ill suddenly
when he was coming home.
Perhaps the stress at work has got to him
She hunts for the right words to say.
She puts her hand on his heart for rhythm
She knew this was the right way.
She'd seen it on the telly a thousand times
But then something struck her eye.
The shape of pink perfect lips on his neck
and now she realised why.
He'd been up to no good
flirting with the women at length.
She smelt his shirt for evidence
and in a rage she picked up strength.
"What have you been doing, you stupid man,
Your place is here at home with me
Not galavanting around with other women"
She'd seen it all before on the TV.
She became hot under her collar
and went to fetch her bag to leave.
He muttered something, she couldn't quite hear
How could he after all these years deceive.
She thought he said the word daughter
She of course had got the wrong end of the stick.
Too many incorrect words had been spoken
She went out the door all too quick.
The man died on the floor, heartbroken
Their daughter laid a rose on his grave.
The relationship she had with her mother shattered
and one she didn't want to save.
Jumping to conclusions, well is all too easy
Harder to find the right words to say
We all make mistakes, we are all human
Pressure, is tricky at the end of the day.

In these times of despair
let there be peace.
When you think nobody is there
That times are hard and hopeless
let the dread cease
and let there be peace.
In these times of uncertainty
let there be peace.
When the shots keep coming
Let them stop.
When times are hard and hopeless
let the dread cease
and let there be peace.
In all of our hearts, we know
that peace is paramount
In all of our countries, land and homes
people count
In hills, mountains, on sand and dry zones
people care
So Lord, help those who need it, let there be peace.

The Call Of The Wind
cheryl love Apr 2015
It is howling and a growling
Out there among the trees
Whipping up dry, cracked leaves
Carrying them high in the breeze.
You can almost hear it whisper
Trying to provoke a storm
Persuading the clouds to disperse
in any way shape or form.
It beckons to the seas,
collecting moisture from the air
to dampen lime green fields
and then water plants everywhere.
It gathers speed shouting down
Chimney pots creating a call
The soot shakes, sprinkles droppings
cinders and ashes start to fall.
That is the response to the wind
clever communication one sees
It is the call of the wind
it is a very clever breeze.

Time
cheryl love Jun 2017
We count the hours that steadily pass
To say we have time on our hands
Observe the trickling hourglass
Seconds replace falling sands

Sand slides ad progressively rolls,
Rolling away, hours pouring
Time for sleep when the bed calls
Time skips without our knowing.

Time speeds up during the day
No time to meet with demands
Need more time I heard you say
I need more time on my hands.

To Be A Poet
cheryl love Sep 2015
To be a good poet
you have got to know it
Know what I hear you cry
and also ask the reason why
You need rhyme, words and wit.

To be a good poet needs time
Time to get the words to rhyme
I've got other fish to fry
No time to actually try
Is that such a big crime?

When you're satisfied with your verse
And it's trending thanks to your purse
Look back and smile
because it took a while
which to me couldn't be any more worse.

Loss - written for Elaine
cheryl love Jul 2017
At this time when you have serious bridges to cross
boxes to tick and thing to dot, you come to disbelief
of what has happened, you are now mourning a loss
and all sorts of emotions have entangled with the grief.
You sit and watch the poppies being crushed to a pulp
because you feel angry; the rouge fades to grey
tears are trapped at the back of your throat and you gulp
you don't know what to think and you cannot say.
These thoughts drift in and out of your mind
disrupting  altering, dreams and now cause rage
we carry on, Lord knows how but we do you will find
that things will settle in your mind at a later stage.
Your friend is looking down as a butterfly now
she will always be by your side for a million years
she will drape her wing on your wing
she will iron troubles and get rid of the fears.
She will whisper sweet things to you Elaine
a friend is for life do not forget, this leads the way
but more important to you my friend she will
be walking down the aisle with you on your wedding day.

Do I amuse, do I entertain, what should I do?
and I of a correct stable mind or am I insane?

I am going, goodbye then, see you one fine day
is anyone interested in my fate?
Is this one big joke or am I certain in what I say
Is this true, well you will have to wait.

Her Words
cheryl love Apr 2015
This is for Sally Bayan.  Her work is remarkable, outstanding and quite frankly she is to me the Poet of the Year.

She chooses wisely,
confidently, remarkably.
Her words crush
her words rise above ordinary words.
If words could stand on shoulders
her words would.
If words could scream from the page
Her words should.
They make tears flow
Relationships grow
and she lets the world know
that it cares.

Sometimes
cheryl love Jun 2013
Sometimes we all want peace and quiet
Sometimes we all wish to shout
Sometimes we all need someone
Sometimes that offer is in doubt.
Doubt is such an ugly word
A word where there is no trust
To have that trust in someone
Is as absolute must.
But maybe sometimes that someone
Does not wish to be about
Maybe that someone sometimes is in doubt
Putting that word to one side
Maybe he or she wants to confide
Because maybe someone shouts sometimes
And sometimes that someone is deep inside.

Loving You
cheryl love Apr 2017
I can cheerfully say
my life would be empty without you.
The days would drag themselves along
every little thing you say, each thing you do
my heart rejoices and breaks into song.
My heart sings just for you, it beats just for you
Loving you is easy, I fall weak at my knees
Without you the day would be hard to get through
there would be no sunshine  no leaves on the trees.
The seas would run dry, streams turning to sand
there would be no tears left for me to cry,
I would no longer hold you by the hand
No fish in my pan for me to fry.
The days would be without time
There would be emptiness all around
My lemon would be looking for its lime
and the radio would be without sound.
I would live in a silenced world day by day
No song, no birds to whistle that is true
I can imagine I would have nothing to say
I will stay for the end of time, I think in loving you.

Leaves that part company with bark fall
sweeping in a hypnotic motion to the ground
Magpies crazy as a box of green frogs call
their machine gun call barks a familiar sound
The rain drenches leaves that fell
falling to the ground not as a sprinkle
but falling like a burst open well
like tears from the eyes that twinkle.
Falling and falling, down they shoot
each and every atom that is designed to fall
from the leaf, to bark, to twig to root
as if nothing but falling matters at all.

snapping twigs in its haste
messing with my mind
messing my future

no hair on my head dare move
was it fear
was it hope
the crackle had disappeared.

Days Of My Life
cheryl love Jan 2017
In and out they weave
through my thoughts
and in my dreams.
The bitter dreams stay away
nowadays sometimes.
and so it seems
the days of my life drift
sifting through the seconds
of precious time.  The sands fall
unexpectedly into the pit
my work my ambitions
my acts, my time, my sacred time
drip slowly through my cold fingers
Thawing nothing, achieving something
and that is to crack my thoughts
like ice into  hot glass.
Misting over my moments
steaming full speed into a future
where ice is not welcome.
Vapour leaves a trail in the orange sky
dont ask me why
it just does
Then it turns grey ,merging with moods
in clouds.
Movement disorders the arrangement
maybe the clouds are not good today
will the rain stay away
or will it dampen my day
the day of my life.

Teenage Lovers
cheryl love Oct 2015
Comparing how much you will love each other
Until the end of your days, when time runs dry.
You will love him more than there are stars in the sky.
He will love you more than there are blades of grass.
Until the planet ceases to revolve, till the moon switches off.
He looks at you through youthful eyes, your shiny face
She looks at him through rose tinted glasses, your tasty lips.
She tastes your mouth, your hands roam free
Your grip tightens on his skin, forever locking in the love.
He drops to his knees, heart pounding, dictating the moment
He asks the question, accepting without hesitation.
Now he looks at her through tired, worn eyes.
Examining the crinkles, wrinkles and lines.
Seeking out the teenager he once knew.
She looks at him with a question in her heart.
Why did she accept so quickly, she knew from the start.
It was love, it was there knocking at her door.
It was at her feet even before
He was there.
It is called teenage love and it lasts forever.

Conversation, that is all I wanted
A little time set aside to talk
Time, that is all I needed
Just extra moments to have a walk

So with this in my mind
and thoughts took their toll
I decided this is the time
that a ventured upon a short stroll

What did I find but chaos all around
Things were set to being weird
I noticed that all conversation had gone
and love from this earth had disappeared.

In some areas hatred was being broadcast
No thought for feelings deep within
Where has the love gone? Why has it gone?
all I could hear was a dismal din.

Moans, groans, fear, bloodshed, hurt
This just on a morning's stroll
An Angel needs to come to earth
and spread more love, that's her goal.

Its hazy path leaves an uncertain trail
as it navigates its way through the night
Ducking and diving between whatever
If there is room for error then it's tight.
It has a mission, to go where no man has been
Almost what James T Kirk would have said
As it spins around our world, its lunar path
knowing instinctively what lies ahead.
Hiding behind clouds, the mysterious veil
Checking before it reappears so it seems
Then it steps into the limelight to claim glory
"Here I am, did you miss me and my moonbeams"
You can almost hear the man in the moon
Or is it just a lump of cheese saying these things!
The show, its stage, its audience appears every night
and we, the onlookers are just waiting in the wings.

Eels slither like ribbons in the wind
The otter decides to take a morning dip
There's an old apple tree somewhere
Fallen apples decay and leave many a pip
to sink slowly and root in the unlikely place
the sun beats down from an azure sky
the fisherman unstable against the bank
his stool wobbling as he eats his pork pie
The fish munch away at his bait
the line pulls tight and he reels the line
the fish unaware of his fate
the bull rushes salute and call time.

Kicking the dust off my shoes
As I strolled towards my front door
Less for me to do I thought
As I had already cleaned my floor.

I had some spare paint in the shed
Nobody would miss my house
If I did the door in a nice bright red.
And the windows need replacing
The frames look shabby and worn
The paint on them seems to be peeling
They were on the house before I was born.
And while I am at it I’ll replace the mat
It has certainly seen much better days.
All these jobs don’t come for free you know
But keeping on top definitely pays.
The letterbox keeps sticking too, I’ll see to that
The postman will be pleased with me
After all these jobs today I will be fast asleep
Oh I seem to have mislaid my key!

Hopes and Dreams
cheryl love Aug 2014
Things are not quite the same
Well, so it seems
We are playing a different game
It is called "hopes and dreams".

The game itself is not that hard
Simple enough rules to follow.
Sometimes it will seem awkward
and the outcome will be hollow.

Eventually, hopes and dreams surface
and your life will be better
Your outlook will enjoy new space
and you will start with a capital letter.

You see hopes and dreams are for all
You just have to find them, they are there
Even when your back is against the wall
and stuff is gone all is bare.

So the very next time that your life
is coming apart at the seams
Everything is trouble and  strife
remember you have hopes and dreams.
