FLOYD "MONEY" MAY WEATHER
Cedric McClester May 2015
By: Cedric McClester

It’s all about money
‘Cos he doesn’t have a soul
Pound for pound he’s the best around
Though he’s still an *******
He’s amassed a fortune
All that glitters isn’t gold
And he can't take a cent with him
At least that's what I’m told

Floyd “Money” may weather
Another boxing storm
While bragging about all he’ll make
And not see nothing wrong
He’s a little hard to take
But we knew that all along
Blessed or cursed for heaven’s sake
He’s an old familiar song

All his money and possession
Hasn’t bought him happiness
Though the way he carries on
You would never guess
Which goes to prove the old adage
Sometimes more is less
Conspicuous consumption
Doesn’t make you a success

He can go to strip clubs
And then make it rain
But all the money in the world
Can’t camouflage his pain
He’s on a giant ego trip
Which perhaps explains
His lack of self-esteem
Despite the wealth he gains

Floyd "Money" May Weather was inspired by a news article that mentioned what boxer Floyd Mayweather is likely to make from the so-called fight of the century.

It’s not just the hearts
That they’re breaking
Or the MS-13s
In the making
Because of the
Family structures they’re shaking
By their Zero Tolerance
Immigration undertaking

It’s the capriciousness
Of the things that they’re doing
Not to mention the color
Of the families they’re *******
That lets us know
There’s a reckoning brewing
Because the whole world
Is in on the viewing

Men and women
Who have children
Yet their hearts are numb
Will reap the famine
That has yet to come
Who will be spared?
Not one single one
Because of the awful things that they’ve done

Is there a black market
In parentless children?
And are we complicit
In trying to fill them?
With new immigrants,
We refuse to accept
Because we’ve become
Morally bereft

PROBABLE COS
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
BY: Cedric McClester

Jurors would be asked to find
Probable cause
But who knows what goes down
Behind closed door
When you discover the man wasn’t
Who you thought he was
And you become victimized
In spite of the **** laws

They’ll blame you (the victim)
As they usually do
Then accuse you of not knowing
What you shoulda knew
When the sad reality
Is that you had no clue
You’d be drugged and date *****
Before you came to

His image is carefully crafted
On the other hand you’re someone
Who would get laughed at
So you keep your silence
Though treated like a door mat
Because he has the power
To make lies a fact
And then dare you to try ‘n react

They’ll blame you (the victim)
As they usually do
Then accuse you of not knowing
What you shoulda knew
When the sad reality
Is that you had no clue
You’d be drugged and date *****
Before you came to

So you wait for years
To get it off of your chest
And when you finally do
You’re vilified nonetheless
As far as they’re concerned
It’s no contest
Ya see he has no conscience
As you might have guessed

As more and more women
Come to the fore
The licentious allegations
Become hard to ignore
Which reveal he’s rotten
Right down to the core
And he’d go to any lengths
To cop or to score

They’ll blame you (the victim)
As they usually do
Then accuse you of not knowing
What you shoulda knew
When the sad reality
Is that you had no clue
You’d be drugged and date *****
Before you came to

Jurors would be asked to find
Probable cause
But who knows what goes down
Behind closed door

TERROR UNDER ANY NAME
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Stop hating on the President
Who said exactly what he meant
It seems the haters won’t relent
Until he’s bowed or bent
But terror under any name
Is terror just the same
What’s the point in trying to defame
Another’s religion,  one you don’t claim

Aren’t you tired of their antics
Accusing him of mere pedantics
Listen to them they sound frantic
Because they’re engaged in pure semantics
Once you know it’s a misnomer
To make Islam terror’s sarcoma
The tactic stinks smell the aroma
It’s time we waken from our coma

Let me proceed by being lenient
Blaming Islam may be convenient
For politicians who often mean it
They don’t even attempt to clean it
But Islam is the antithesis
Of terror where there’s a dissonance
Though some might claim it’s the impetus
I disagree with that synthesis

Terror carried out in Islam’s name
Is not Islam as might be claimed
So there’s no need for us to defame
A world religion that is getting framed
For the actions of a select few
When others have done what these miscreants do
But their religion was no clue
Because terror isn’t nothing new

NINE TIMES
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

They let that devil go nine times
And as a consequence
Children continued to be molested
Does that make any sense
He was reported time and time again
Since nineteen sixty eight
But the system didn’t catch up with him
Until it was much too late

Nine times he was reported
And still they let him go
Charges were unsubstantiated
Even thought the children let ‘em know

Children continued being sent
To his house of horror
Where he wore his cloak of invincibility
As if it were an aura
And so he cast a shadow of doubt
That covered him for decades more
Before they were able to figure out
He was a molester for sure

Nine times he was reported
And still they let him go
Charges were unsubstantiated
Even though the children let ‘em know

Most of the victimized children
Who were forced to endure
His personalized brand of terror
Aren’t there anymore
But new ones came into his lair
Just like they did before
And this went on year after year
But it doesn’t happen anymore

Why did it take seemingly forever
For him to get indicted
But now that he finally has
And his litany has been recited
The latest of which involved seven children
As well as the family dog
It’s a hell of a case they’re finally building
Now that they’re in whole hog

Nine times he was reported
And still they let him go
Charges were unsubstantiated
Even though the children let ‘em know

They let that devil go nine times
And as a consequence
Children continued to be molested
Does that make any sense
He was reported time and time again
Since nineteen sixty eight
But the system didn’t catch up with him
Until it was much too late

It isn’t about Freddie Gray
According to what local residents say
It clearly goes much deeper than that
For us to find ourselves where we’re at
How did things get this far gone
And how are we going to go on
When our social fabric is clearly torn
Can we at least take pause to morn

Our legitimacy can be deleted
When acts of violence are repeated
Lawlessness needs to be defeated
Even though our grievances are deep seated
As I’ve indicated before
It doesn’t call for a state of war
The rule of law we can’t ignore
Without a doubt that is for sure

It isn’t about Freddie Gray
Nor merely ignorance as some will say
And while ignorance may come into play
It’s about more than that anyway
Is it an organize insurrection
Beyond the naked eye’s detection
Like Cointelpro at the governments direction
While real estate interests have an errection

On the same day Mr. Gray was interred
And the lines of decorum clearly blurred
The police’s non-response was absurd
Because protecting the people was deferred
So there’s enough guilt to pass around
From the mayor , city council and police on down
Now it’s gonna take decades to come around
Because the after affects are that profound
It Isn't About Freddie Gray was yet another poem inspired by the volence that erupted in the wake of Freddie Gray's funcral.

GOVERNMENT FOR SALE
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Once upon a time
You would find
Them believing in
A different paradigm
Before the government
Was put up for sale
By a nine member panel
That we used to hail

Government for sale
Government for sale
They are determined
That the rich don’t fail
The Supreme Court has ruled
So now all hail

It seem to me
They need a babysitter
Our government’s been sold
To the highest bidder
Read  all about it
On Instagram or Twitter
While I lick my wounds
And go to the *******

Government for sale
Government for sale
They are determined
That the rich don’t fail
The Supreme Court has ruled
So now all hail

I know what you’re saying
It’s insane
They’ve thrown our founding principles
Down the drain
And they don’t seem to care
How much pain
That their rulings cause
Because the fact remains

Government for sale
Government for sale
They are determined
That the rich don’t fail
The Supreme Court has ruled
So now all hail

(3rd Verse)
The people will rise up
Wait and see
And it won’t be pretty
Listen to me
All you have to do
Is check out history
Because what I’m saying
Is no mystery

Government for sale
Government for sale
They are determined
That the rich don’t fail
The Supreme Court has ruled
So now all hail
(Repeat chorus 2xs and fade)

In the name of
Law and order
Their time here
Is growing shorter
Since he’s become
The nation’s chief exporter
They’re being sent back
Over the border

Even though
It doesn’t calm us
He’s keeping
A campaign promise
So why are we
Acting so astonished
At least
We’ve gotta say he’s honest

When they’re gone
What are we gonna do
About the kind of labor
That we refuse to
Who will pick the produce
That we eat?
Or mix the concrete
For the sidewalk or street

He’s telling ‘em
Open your bags and pack
So be prepared
Cos I’m sending you back
To the country that
You came from
Even though
That’s not true of some

THE GOVERNOR APOLOGIZED
Cedric McClester Jan 2016
By; Cedric McClester

The Governor apologized
But the people of Flint realized
He had pulled the wool over their eyes
With contaminated water supplies
It happened when he switched the source
From Lake Huron to the Flint River, of course
It was to save money but he now has remorse
And his voice is starting to get hoarse

And if the people needed further proof
To realize that somebody goofed
Now the lead levels have gone through the roof
And this is the naked truth
See it’s gone from bad to worst
And the damage can’t be reversed
So the people are feeling cursed
They need bottled water to quench their thirst

They’re drawing Lake Huron water once more
And that’s a good restart for sure
Although it isn’t a magical cure
Cuz the water will remain unpure
Until the water is filtered and the pipes are clean
The lead will be there albeit unseen
Negatively affecting the brains and the spleen
The people will still be betwixed and between

It was the Governor’s people they say
That made it all happen that way
And to date no one’s had to pay
For the damages or for the delay
In rectifying the situation
The people have had to be patient
Listening to their public relations
But who’s answering the allegations?

Call it a curse
A predilection
Or a disease
My own affliction
What I need more
Than a conviction
Is understanding
Without restriction

Self-destructive
Yeah perhaps
Every vein I have
Collapsed
My whole body
Has been taxed
I’ve tried to quit
But then I lapsed

I’m not looking
For sympathy
I’m just trying
To make you see
That it affects
More than just me
Even the suburbs
Are not free

I started out
Trying to ease my pain
It was doctor prescribed
Ain’t that insane
I took those pills
‘Til that day came
And ever since
I haven’t been the same

No justice no peace
Doesn’t  mean shoot the police
They’re not all savage beast’
Can we agree on this at least
It’s a difficult job they do
While protecting me and you
They have a right to go home too
But then you already knew

Everyday all the time
They put their lives on the line
If I have to I’ll remind - you
That it takes a special kind
So let’s all pause to recognize
Is it just for us to demonize
The Golden Rule also applies
Let me suggest that’s recognized

It’s a noble profession
So let it be an object lesson
When we need ‘em they’re a blessin’
Which occasional misdeeds doesn’t lessin’
You’ll concede this at least
If we want crime to decrease
We need their ranks to increase
Without ‘em who would keep the peace

I’m not a police apologist
When they’re killed I get ******
Because the major point is missed
They too have a right to exist
Ask yourself where would we be
As a civil society
In this land of the brave and free
If the police cease to be

You’re innocent I bet
If only in your own mind
But you should regret
Making us upset
Just because you’re inclined
To prevaricate
About that alleged crime of hate

Despite all your chatter
The truth of the matter
Definitely needs to be mentioned
You clearly were seeking attention
The story you conceived
Is hard to be believed
Because it defies convention
And causes nothing but dissension

You did a week
And are out as I speak
While awaiting your appeal
But for a moment let’s be real
You’re gonna find
That your appeal will be declined
Based on lack of merritt
You’re lucky a judge agreed to hear it

But you won’t relent
And take your punishment
Because you think you’re an exception
You’re practicing self-deception
Consider what it took
In order to close the book
See thirty months isn’t that bad
You’re lucky that’s all you had

YOU THINK I'M NASTY
Cedric McClester Apr 2016
By: Cedric McClester

From your golden fountain
I’ll take a drink
Am I really that thirsty
What do you think
Cuz I’m over anxious
To see your pink
So give it to me
And let’s make a link

You think I’m nasty
I know that you do
But I’m only nasty
When I’m with you

Don’t know what you heard
Or what you might have read
But I’m the best in town
At giving head
You can check my references
Heard what I said
And my wooden soldier’s
A long way from dead

You think I’m nasty
I know that you do
But I’m only nasty
When I’m with you

So am I a freak
Just because
I’m prepared to eat
Everything that’s yours
A moment of silence
Put that thought on pause
While I get busy
Removing you drawers

I’ll toss your salad
Like a vegan chef
And eat it all up
Until nothing is left
But fair exchange
Is never a theft
So let’s get it on
That’s my request

You think I’m nasty
I know that you do
But I’m only nasty
When I’m with you
I’m only nasty
When I’m with you

Russians attacked
Our democracy
But there’s little interests
If you ask me
On the part of some lawmakers
Who appear to be
More interested in
The leaks that they see

Russians attacked
Our democracy
But where is the furor
Like in Benghazi
Something ain’t right
And here is the key
There’s more partisanship
Than there needs to be

Russians attacked
Our democracy
But he’s not upset
Like he should be
Not the least bit ruffled
From what I can see
And his attitude
Is a real mystery

Russians attacked
Our democracy
And steered an election
That we thought was free
By hacking emails
Of the DNC
And leaking them
As the case may be

CLIFFORD GLOVER
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: C edric McClester

Where or when shall I begin
With this explanation
Black boys look like men
Or should it suffice for me to say
A black man of 51 passed for 20 that day
The perpetrators mentioned
On the police radio call
Were both in the their twenties
And both were tall

Now lets look at the facts in this case
So as not to proceed with undue haste
His stepfather was tall but Clifford was short
I guess killing some people is still an in sport
Now to hear officer Shea tell it
Young Clifford was armed
And he was in fear of ****** harm
So the police searched
Both day and night
But no gun was ever found
On that site
Yet Shea said he fired
In self-defense
I guess from his perspective
It made perfect sense

Clifford Glover was 10 years old when he allegedly was confused for an adult male and shot by New York City Police Office Michael Shea who chased Clifford and his stepfather who were on their way to the junk yard where they worked.  Clifford's stepfather was carrying the payroll and when they were approached by an un-marked police vehicle in two white men jumped out they ran.  Neither were armed and Clifford was shot dead by Officer Shea.  While this may sound like it was snatched from today's news, this happened in 1973.  This incident served as a catalyst for my writing socially relevant poetry.  Clifford Glove served and serves as my muse.   Clifford Glover was first  Copy written and published in 1973.

ISLAM AIN'T THE ENEMY
Cedric McClester Jan 2016
By: Cedric McClester

It’s a game of semantics
About Islam and phobia
And despite your antics
I’ve decided on disrobing ya
Islam ain’t the enemy
That you make it out to be
Why use so much energy
Trying to make me agree

Islamic terrorism
Is a contradictory term
Islam stands for peace
As over a billion Muslims
Confirm
Don’t  judge ‘em by the deviants
Who’ve strayed far from the path
What about the vast majority do the math

Why do you insist I say it
Like there’s power in the words
When I will never okay it
Because of what it undergirds
Islam ain’t the enemy
But if you try hard enough
You could really make it be
Everything that you prescribe
Like a self-fulfilling prophecy

Why the need to demonize
People you don’t understand
I think that you’d be well-advised
To deviate from your plan
You’re sowing seeds of discord
Every chance you get
And people who should know better
Are caught up in your net

WORDS HAVE MEANING
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Words have meaning (oh yes they do)
But some of us act like that isn’t true
Out of our own mouths we degrade ourselves
And call it a term of endearment
But that’s hoping and wishing
That the definition no longer means what it meant
Isn’t it strange that nothing has changed
Except the user’s intent

Ain’t it absurd people died for a word
That we openly use today
It never occurred that to be referred to
As sub-human is not okay
A term of affection (or misdirection)
Which do you think is in play
When you use that word that is so often heard
Out of young mouths today

Who can deny (or try to justify)
The use of a term born from hate
Open your eyes your wherefores and whys
Aren’t creditable things to debate
Too many fatalities come from the realities
Of the words that we state
We have to change course by influence or force
Cos the hour is getting late

Ain’t it absurd people died for a word
That we openly use today
It never occurred that to be referred to
As sub-human is not okay
A term of affection (or misdirection)
Which do you think is in play
When you use that word that is so often heard
Out of young mouths today

Why do you figure Jay-z became Jigger
And gave up his first claim to fame
It was his ambition to defy definition
Besides that wasn’t his name
It was a non-starter for Mr. Shawn Carter
That he wasn’t willing to barter

Ain’t it absurd people died for a word
That we openly use today
It never occurred that to be referred to
As sub-human is not okay
A term of affection (or misdirection)
Which do you think is in play
When you use that word that is so often heard
Out of young mouths today

So let us aspire to (remove or retire)
A term that we’ve come to abuse
I swear I’m no liar we can aim higher
Than some of the words that we use
Let’s give conscious thought to the thing we had ought
Not to do that we can refuse
It an offense that doesn’t make sense
And we’ve already paid the dues

Ain’t it absurd people died for a word
That we openly use today
It never occurred that to be referred to
As sub-human is not okay
A term of affection (or misdirection)
Which do you think is in play
When you use that word that is so often heard

A DIRTY STONE
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Your secret’s out
Now everybody knows
He gave you that rock
Like we first supposed
So model it
Come on and strike a pose
But maybe first
Straighten out your clothes

Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone
And we’re not dumb enough to be deceived
So your account was never believed

I sympathize with you
I know that truth hurts
Now you’re about to get
Your just desserts
See that’s what sometimes happens
To you flirts
When showin’ off what’s underneath
Your skirts

Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone
And we’re not dumb enough to be deceived
So your account was never believed

You went to the Hague
To testify but lied
The version that you told
By others was denied
And even those who wanna
Be on your side
Know the truth was sumthin
You never applied

Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone
And we’re not dumb enough to be deceived
So your account was never believed

It’s too late for the truth
The damage has been done
To your tattered image
Now you don’t have one
But that’s what you deserve
If the truth be told
Cuz justice must be served
And it’s best served cold

You went to the Hague
To testify but lied
The version that you told
By others was denied
And even those who wanna
Be on your side
Know the truth was sumthin
You never applied

Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone

GOING CLEAR
Cedric McClester Oct 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Some question the pathology
Of embracing Scientology
But they make no apology
For their man made theology
Do you know the chronology
Have you read the anthology
That reveals the cosmology
Or studied their psychology

When you lose sight of everything
That you hold near and dear
And your mind’s a blank slate
And there’s nothing that you fear
And all of life’s mysteries
Are no longer there
Then you’ve reached the mental state
That's called going clear

In order for you to find
How all the planets align
You must lose your reactive mind
By going clear you’ll be inclined
To put uncertainty behind
The way that it has been defined
Though people will still malign
The Scientology paradigm

When you lose sight of everything
That you hold near and dear
And your mind’s a blank slate
And there’s nothing that you fear
And all of life’s mysteries
Are no longer there
Then you’ve reached the mental state
That's called going clear

People tend to fear the unknown
Like things inside the Twilight Zone
Though exponentially it’s grown
Glass house people still throw stones

The ideas that they mirror
Couldn’t be more clearer
Than the things that they hold dearer
Like currency to the bearer
Or members going clearer
Than Thetans causing terror
Though truth is clear from error

When you lose sight of everything
That you hold near and dear
And your mind’s a blank slate
And there’s nothing that you fear
And all of life’s mysteries
Are no longer there
Then you’ve reached the mental state
That's called going clear

Some question the pathology
Of embracing Scientology
But they make no apology
For their man made theology

Have you read the anthology

By: Cedric McClester,

It's a long way from
New York to Simi Valley
But we've done the math
And added up the tally
Of unarmed black and brown men
Who've been shot
Tragically by bullets
From a cop

With hands held high
In a gesture of surrender
They have been shot down
In all their youth and splendor
And who do you guess
Might be the prime offender
Someone in blue uniform
Is the top contender

Like Rodney King
After the facts are stated
They don't get indicted
Or are vindicated
While the family of the victims
Have all waited
For justice that's denied
Or just vacated

With hands held high
In a gesture of surrender
They have been shot down
In all their youth and splendor
And who do you guess
Might be the prime offender
Someone in blue uniform
Is the top contender

It's not so much your color
As your class
That might determine
If a cop acts much too fast
Barely identifying themselves
Before they blasts
And your future could
Quickly becomes your past

With hands held high
In a gesture of surrender
They have been shot down
In all their youth and splendor
And who do you guess
Might be the prime offender
Someone in blue uniform
Is the top contender

Those who celebrated
The Arab Spring
Missed the point entirely
And that's the funny thing
Everywhere young people
Are clamoring for change
And demanding justice
Though some might find it strange

It's a long way from
New York to Simi Valley
But we've done the math
And added up the tally
Of unarmed black and brown men
Who've been shot
Tragically by bullets
From a cop

How come she didn’t
Speak out then?
The answer’s simple,
It’s because of men
She knew
She would be denigrated
Second guessed
As well as hated

It doesn’t mean
She wasn’t hurt
Or that she wasn’t
Made to feel like dirt
Was it worth the price
She’d have to pay,
In order to publicly
Have her say?

Men in general
Have no idea
What it’s like to live
In that kind of fear
Of being shamed
Or exposed
To the whole world
So everybody knows

Those who are guilty
Of the act
Are so reluctant
To retract
Their counter narrative
Of the facts
In attempt to cover
Their own backs

NO PROBABLE CAUSE!
Cedric McClester May 2015
By: Cedric McClester

After having fled them
He was arrested
With no probable cause
Which made him contest it
Then he was subdued
No -  let’s say molested
What can we conclude
You’ve already guessed it

They don’t need a reason
To arrest blacks
Cos’ it’s open season
These are just the facts
They have blue allegiance
We fall through the cracks
Which gives great credence
To all justice lacks

When he was placed
In the paddy wagon
Hogtied and trapped
His body was dragging
Cos’ he wasn’t strapped
Like he was a bag and
His spine was snapped
So can you imagine

In critical condition
Yet he was ignored
While hoping and wishing
Praying to the Lord
That someone would listen
Cos his spinal cord
Was severed or missin’
Just like he assured

Who was she to me?
She was Miss Ruby Dee
An actress/activist you see
Who used celebrity
To try to make us free
Who was she to me
More than the eye can see
She was Miss Ruby Dee

Who was she to me?
She was Miss Ruby Dee
Although to her family
Daughter sister mother
Wife like no other
Loving caring daring
Not adverse to sharing
Never overbearing

Who was she to me?
She was Miss Ruby Dee
Who spent many sleepless nights
Engaged in civil rights
Upon which she insisted
Even when blacklisted
Seeking human improvement
While wedded to the movement

Who was she to me?
She was Miss Ruby Dee
Part of our history
She leaves a legacy
That’s there for all to see
She lived a life well spent
Because she was not content
To sit at home and relent

Who was she to me?
She was Miss Ruby Dee
Who’s at rest finally
And that’s how it should be
So none of us should ponder
Because she’s gone up yonder
In full accord
And in the hands of her precious Lord

WHEN IT'S HATE YOU TEACH
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

To the Far Right it’s now midnight
And you will have to choose
Whether to continue saying things
Designed to make the news
What you say has consequences
Some that can be dire
You need to watch your rhetoric
And the things that you inspire

I am not saying you shouldn’t have
The right to free speech
But I’m suggesting you create congestion
When it’s hate you teach

To extremist out there everywhere
We see you on the move
Committing acts of violence
But what does it all prove
You’re not winning hearts or minds
With your barbaric tactics
Perhaps you need to redefine
Your causes and didactics

I’m not saying you shouldn’t have
The right to free speech
But I’m suggesting you create congestion
When it’s hate you teach

We’ve walked away from group-think
It’s not 1984
So we don’t need that kinda paradigm
It’s not useful anymore

Here’s what I say to the NRA
They’re entitled to their point of view
But I’ve heard their tired argument
Guns don’t **** (people do)
And I admit they might be right
But let’s use our common sense
It’s people with access to guns
Who have bullets to dispense

We’ve walked away from group-think
It’s not 1984
So we don’t need that kinda paradigm
It’s not useful anymore

I’m not saying you shouldn’t have
The right to free speech
But I’m suggesting you create congestion
When it’s hate you teach

To the Far Right it’s now midnight
And you will have to choose
Whether to continue saying things

ABLUTION
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Excuse me as I do my ablution
After I wipe my *** on the Constitution
Which you don’t believe in anyway
At least not the parts that expressly say
There’s freedom of religion as well as speech
Those are the things that I’m told you teach
The same things that you want to now take away
As you dictate to me where I can or cannot pray

I need ablution
To wash myself clean
Of the things that you say
But clearly don’t mean
Your attitude
Borders on the obscene
So I need ablution
To wash myself clean

What’s happened to the American ideal
The one that was sold that had such appeal
And is all but forgotten nowadays
Which is apparent in so many ways
Where’s the principles on which you stand
Have they been abandoned throughout this land
If your core values are becoming suspect
Is there anything left for you to protect

I need ablution
To wash myself clean
Of the things that you say
But clearly don’t mean
Your attitude
Borders on the obscene
So I need ablution
To wash myself clean

Your attitude has me so confused
Cos the right to free speech
Is so often abused
And you know you’re guilty
As you’ve been accused
When burning Korans
Is all over the news

I need ablution
To wash myself clean
Of the things that you say
But clearly don’t mean
Your attitude
Borders on the obscene
So I need ablution
To wash myself clean

Excuse me as I do my ablution
After I wipe my *** on the Constitution

We’ve become a nation
That refuses to think
They pass us poisoned Kool Aid
And we can’t wait to drink
We’re gullible enough
To go for the hoodwink
If there’s a ***** in our armor
It’s that we’re missing a vital link

Promise them anything
But they’re gonna get Arpege
Just like that old
Perfume commercial says
We’ve been sold a dream
By those running for prez
Tell me who out there
Right now could use a Pez

No one ever asks
How are they gonna deliver
Before they buy that bridge
Over the Hudson River
Some say they’re flexible
Do they mean Indian giver
Or maybe they just suffer from
Cirrhosis of the liver

Have we become so desperate
That we’ll go for anything
No matter what concoction
Snake oil salesmen bring
One wants to be the president
The other probably king
But we’ll know bye and bye
Once the fat lady gets to sing

BILLY'S GOT IT BAD
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Billy's at the bar
Sippin on his Bud
Watching two young lovelies
Wrestling in the mud
Everybody says
He's a classic fool
But ain't nobody yet
Did better in high school

Sarah was his lady
According to what I heard
But they broke up a while ago
At least that is the word
He now spends his time
Tryin to be a cad
And we all sympathize
Cos Billy's got it bad

Billy's got it bad
And everybody knows
What he feels inside
It's so obvious it shows

Life goes on for Sarah
She hardly missed a beat
She's lookin straight ahead
Not down at her feet
Billy ain't the only fish
Out there in the sea
And she knows in time
He'll be a passing memory

She's got other things
Runnin through her head
What she had with Billy
Is over now it's dead
It ain't all about
Tryin to place the blame
Or spendin time wonderin
Who smothered the flame

Billy's got it bad
And everybody knows
What he feels inside
It's so obvious it shows

So Billy takes his Bud
And swallows down the foam
In a crowd of people
He feels all alone
Thinkin 'bout his Sarah
And wonderin if she too
Ever thinks about him
Or gets a little blue

Though Billy tells folks
That everything's okay
Ain't nobody buyin
At least they're not today
It really doesn't matter
What he has to say
Nothin's been the same
Since Sarah went away

Cos Billy's got it bad
And everybody knows
What he feels inside
It's so obvious it shows

THEIR DILEMMA
Cedric McClester Feb 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Their dilemma
Remains to be such
Where they seem determined
To stay out of touch
They knock immigration
A tad too much
And when it comes to women’s rights
They stay in dutch

To win their primaries
They evangelize
By quoting the Bible
As if we’re not wise
Cuz some of us go
For their ******* up lies
When the truth is
Right there before our eyes

Any ol’ *******
Can kick down a barn
How many can build one
Or make chili con carne
They want to dismantle
The healthcare that’s there
Without a replacement
Of which we’re aware

They go against
The rising tide
Then wonder why
They’re being denied
They’d rather remain antiquated
By embracing the things
Most people hated
A salient fact that can’t be debated

Cedric McClester May 2015
If they knew then
What they know now
Would they have done it anyhow
Or waited and turned back the dial
To think about it for a while
Despite the dead not here today
We don’t know so we can't say
What they would’ve done anyway

If they knew then
What they know now
Would Isis still be allowed
To flourish and attract a crowd
In places where they've gone buck wild
And so imagine if you can
No al-Qaeda or noTaliban
Or troops blown up in desert sand

If they knew then
What they know now
To contemplate it is a wow
‘Cos no one has been brought to trial
Or forced to work on a rock pile
But we can't dream it away
No matter what they have to say
Hope justice will prevail one day

If they knew then
What they know now
Or took the time to read his file
They would have known
It wasn’t his style
To capitulate grovel or bow
And perhaps things would be
Much  different now

He rolled up
Beside a car
Of a budding
Rap superstar
Who’s now dead
So there you are
I guess we haven’t
Got that far

Just like
The Wild Wild West (I guess)
And as deadly (nevertheless)
Though they try to do their best
So few ever pass that test

Cowboys don’t
Go down like that
Once the director
Says it’s a wrap
They get up
And dust off their hat
Then go home
From where they’re at

Just like
The Wild Wild West (I guess)
And as deadly (nevertherless)
Though they try to do their best
So few rappers pass that test

Votive candles
In makeshift shrines
Which we’re seeing
Too many times
Now that the reasons
Have lost their rhymes
Theses are the best
And worst of times

Just like
The Wild Wild West (I guess)
And as deadly (nevertherless)
Though they try to do their best
So few rappers pass that test

May the deceased
Rest in peace
As we ask
When will it cease
Their deaths seems to be
On the increase
And I’m not adding
Any yeast

A SOCIAL DIVISION
Cedric McClester Jan 2016
By: Cedric McClester

It’s a divide
A social division
And we’re gonna have to
Make a decision
What do we value more
People or profits
Greed is like ******
It’s hard to get off it

It’s a divide
A social division
And the greed mongers
Are on a mission
They could care less
About you or I
If they had their way
We’d fall off or die

It’s a divide
A social division
Will morality win
Over ambition
Or could that be
Mere hoping and wishin’
That things were different
You better listen - coz

It’s a divide
A social division
And the greed mongers
Are on a mission
They could care less
About you or I
If they had their way
We’d fall off or die

You see it’s a battle
For our heart and soul
So when will our values
Begin to take hold
Or am I mistaken
And all that is old
Because our warm hearts
Are suddenly cold

It’s a divide
A social division
And the greed mongers
Are on a mission
They could care less
About you or I
If they had their way
We’d fall off or die

It’s a divide
A social division
And we’re gonna have to
Make a decision
What do we value more

WHEN WE DIDN'T HAVE...
Cedric McClester Feb 2016
By: Cedric McClester

When we didn’t have
A *** to **** in
Or a window
To through it out
When we only had
Each other
We had lots of love
No doubt

When we didn’t
Have a thing
When we ate
At Burger King
When we had
Little to spend
We were happier
Back then

Before mingling
With super stars
Buying mansions
Riding fancy cars
When our cupboard
Was nearly bare
Truth of the matter
We didn’t care

When we didn’t
Have a thing
When we ate
At Burger King
When we had
Little to spend
We were happier
Back then

We had so much love
Back then
We had so much love
Back when
Our pockets were thin
And we scraped
To get by
We had love you and I

Now that is not
To say
That we don’t
Have love today
But it was so much
Harder then
It was harder
Way back when

When we didn’t
Have a thing
When we ate
At Burger King
When we had
Little to spend
We were happier
Back then

When we didn’t have
A *** to **** in
Or a window
To through it out
When we only had
Each other
We had lots of love

BETTER DAYS
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Better days lie ahead
At least that’s what I thought he said
While on a tour of New Orleans
But what I think he really means
Is things are better than before
Yet we know he should do much more
To rectify the situation
Nola’s still part of our nation
Better days lie ahead
For the homeless not the dead
Whose bloated bodies floated by
In a way no one should die
Cos FEMA wasn’t energetic
Their response was just pathetic
Showing up three days late
Having victims sit and wait

Better days lie ahead
We’re tired of the rhetoric
Just tell us when it’s getting fixed

While his friends are getting paid
He claims real progress has been made
There’s little progress we can see
Being made for you and me
But he says things are going fine
He’s either crazy or he’s blind
Cos progress has been slow to date
And people are still forced to wait
For the help they’re supposed to get
Most of them are at their end’s wit
Trying to figure how to make it
And some of them just plain can’t take it
The levees are still inadequate
And that don’t help us not one bit
Who know when the next hurricane
Will bring flood waters and torrential rain

Better days lie ahead
We’re tired of the rhetoric
Just tell us when it’s getting fixed

He comes down here for photo opps
But hasn’t pulled out all the stops
And mean while we’re still suffering
And wondering where the hell he’s been
With all the help he said we’d get
That hasn’t materialized quite yet
And we’re still waiting to rebuild
To have our empty stomachs filled
But all we get is rhetoric
And that can’t buy us ****
I don’t know and so I’m guessin
But in this there must be some lesson
That I must have missed in school
Call me stupid or a fool
Fool me once but not again
Which begs to ask the question when

Better days lie ahead
We’re tired of the rhetoric
Just tell us when it’s getting fixed

Better days lie ahead
At least that’s what I thought he said
While on a tour of New Orleans
But what I think he really means
Is things are better than before

A mother’s love
Was abuse to some
Foolishness
She was having none
Which caused her to disciplined
Her only son
In a valiant effort
To get the job done

Better that
Than the police
Causing his
Young life to cease
Thank God she intervened
At least
Before the violence
Had increased

A mother’s love
Should be applauded
What she did
Must be lauded
And our priorities
Reordered
Instead of young blacks
Being slaughtered

A mother’s love
Can’t be questioned
Instead it should serve
As a lesson
For her son
It was a blessing
So let’s stop
Second guessing

TATTOOS ON THEIR HEADS
Cedric McClester Apr 2016
By: Cedric McClester

O’Reilly has gumption
To arrive at the assumption
That blacks who applied
For jobs would be denied
He says they’re not qualified
Adding insult to injury
He said you’d be horrified to see
Tattoos on their heads

Viewers have to face this
He’s a dyed in the wool racist
Who because of this collusion
Comes to a false conclusion
Which promotes the illusion
That black men are less than
Other kinds of men
Who have tattoos on their heads

His hostility
Is plain enough to see
It’s right there in the open
Just in case you were hoping
The opposite were true
All you have to do is view
Or hear a rancid interview
About tattoos on their heads

Listen carefully you’ll detect
An inferiority complex
That although he masks it well
A trained eye can clearly tell
Why it is he give ‘em hell
So to him it might appear
That the black men he’s learned to fear
Have tattoos on his head

BOMBASTIC
Cedric McClester Apr 2020
By: Cedric McClester

He’s bombastic
When being sarcastic
And also he’s elastic
I wonder if he’s spastic
Although we know
Right from the get go
He says it isn’t so
As we watch his nose  grow

He’s bombastic
But thinks that he’s fantastic
Now that things are getting drastic
He comes off as plastic
So his lack of leadership
Shows on every TV clip
As he just lets it rip
While his ratings start to slip

He’s bombastic
And enthusiastic
When he should be monastic
He’s certainly not scholastic
Now he’s a circus clown
Who refuses to lay down
He thinks he wears a crown
Which only makes us frown

He’s bombastic
On the verge of being megaloblastic
He would like to be dynastic
Though maybe that’s too drastic
Cuz we can’t take much more
Of that you can be sure
He’s rotten to the core
And I’ve told you that before

IT'S A NEVER ENDING PARADE!
Cedric McClester Jul 2015
By: Cedric McClester

It don’t look like he’ll escape this
He’ll forever be known as a ******
He’s lucky that they didn’t tape it
Which is why he continues to fake it
Now it looks like he’s going down
Even Whoopi had to come around
‘Cos the evidence is so profound
It’s enough to make a swimmer drown

Once known as America’s dad
He’s lost the reputation that he had
And the whole situation is sad
Now that the good is overshadowed by the bad
‘Cos despite a family and a lovely wife
He chose to live a more risqué life
Guess he loved an element of strife
And the examples are clearly rife

It’s a never ending parade
Of the various women he’s laid
Did I mention they never got paid
Despite all the money he’s made
An unapologetic *** offender
Made ‘em feel like they were on a ******
After drugging them into surrender
Then sexing them rough or tender

Now that his reputation is in tatters
Hope he’s discovered what really matters
More than the accolades that only flatters
His ego as his friends and fans scatter
Seen him lately he’s looking so old
How many more times will the story be told
See it doesn’t seem to be getting cold
Looks like his tent is about to fold

He ain’t that funny anymore
‘Cos he’s rotten right to the core
And past supporters aren’t even sure
He’s not guilty like they were before
They used to be so confident
But they no longer share that sentiment
See they wonder where the luster went
They understand that the women weren’t sent

Y'ALL LOVE YOUR GUNS
Cedric McClester Jul 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Another random shooting stuns
But the headline should read
Y’all love your guns
Three dead and nine wounded
In a Louisiana movie theater
You might have assumed
It was carried out by a lone gunman
Who shot himself when he was done – and

I don’t care what y’all say
The statistics don’t lie
It happens almost every day
Different city different state
The homicides
Just don’t abate
The survivors are the lucky ones
‘Cos we all know y’all love your guns

Shooters striking just like lightenin’
Now that’s alarming
And also frightenin’
But we don’t want no gun control
It’s logical
But that argument’s old
Despite the amount of damage done
You must confess y’all love your guns

So as we turn another page
There’s no point in us feigning
Our outrage
As long as we’re cowered by
The NRA
Who always seems to have
The final say
But y’all love your guns anyway

The Louisiana movie theater shooting is yet another in the litany of home grown terrorism.

We’re faced with a contagion
As deadly as the Black Plague
And so it finds us engaged with
The scourge of the modern age
Yesterday we were challenged by
A disease that was spreading
And similarly today it seems
That’s the place we’re heading

One thing I know for sure
It crosses all demographics
And so we search for a cure
A stop light for it’s traffic
Some call it an affliction
Cos’ that’s their frame of mind
But opioid addiction
Is the bane of all mankind

As we attempt to treat it
Because we heed the call
We know to defeat it
That one size won’t fit all
Multiple methodologies
Will have to be employed
Though the ideal is always abstinence
Let’s not get paranoid

There are other approaches
Out there on the horizon
Like medically assisted treatment
That conveniently ties in
To the awful situation
We find ourselves in today
Doctors providing treatment
Is another option they say

IMA TELL THE TRUTH
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Ima tell the truth
While I have this mic
We often say that we’re in love
When we’re in like
The words come out our mouths
As easily as riding a bike
And makes us feel good
Because it soothes our psych

The person we first meet
Is an ambassador
A representative of who
We thought we saw
It takes time for us to learn
A little more
To get to know the person
At their very core

Eventually we’re naked
Before the world
Every man, woman,
Child, boy or girl
It’s then that the truth
Finally will unfurl
To tell whether you have
A fake or natural pearl

I’m not here tryin’
To cause alarm
And it’s never been my purpose
To bring harm
But to be forewarned
Is to be forearmed
Because it’s so easy
For us to be charmed

HOLIDAYS
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Holidays come
And holidays go
But none are like Christmas
None of ‘em I know
Nothing can compare
With that Christmas atmosphere
Or the gifts that we share
With the ones for whom we care

Holidays come
And holidays go
But not many of ‘em
Do we pray for snow
With sleigh bells ringing
And children’s eyes aglow
Or carolers singing
Familiar songs we know

Holidays come
And holidays go
But none of ‘em have
The same ebb and flow
As Christmas does each year
Which only goes to show
How it’s anticipated
Like we already know

Holidays come
And holidays go
But Christmas is special
Underneath the mistletoe
People are laughing
And shopping to and frow
For just the right gifts
That express the love you show

I believe hope springs eternal
With faith measured by the kernel
We can get past this infernal
If we get cooking with some Sterno
Can we turn it all around
When we commit to get down
All kinds of solutions can be found
So I’ll continue to expound

We can over come they sang
While shooters went bang bang bang
But not from the members of a gang
Out of the darkness from which they sprang
So I’ll remain an optimist
Not just a complainant who ***** his fist
I know that ignorance is bliss
But at all costs that’s what we must resist

If there’s a need for a paradigm
James Baldwin called it the fire next time
While city officials called it a crime
We can’t repeat it time after time
But I’m encouraged by what I see
From the populace and the powers that be
I don’t know if that’s just me
Cos I see a positive destiny

The commentator called for peace and calm
While the Nation of Islam called an alarm
And members of the clergy said do no harm
Let’s march in protest arm and arm
I know that we can find a better way
Than the tragic displays of yesterday
Because everybody’s gonna have their say
See I believe in time it’s gonna be okay

POOR JEB
Cedric McClester Feb 2016
By: Cedric McClester

They criticized poor Jeb
For showing off his gun
And trying to get street cred’
When he don't have none
His glasses have been shed
The Clark Kent image done
And now he’s chumping Trump
Just to have some fun

Poor, poor, poor Jeb
Has found his energy
But it took his brother’s help
And Trump’s insults ya see
Will he win in the end
How come you’re asking me?
I don’t know the answer
Or his destiny

I call him poor Jeb
But here goes the hitch
No matter what I called him
He would still be rich
His detractors probably say
He’s a son- of- a- *****
No offense intended
Mama Bush PUT DOWN that switch!

Poor Jeb sure knows how
To maintain his composure
Despite the barbs and insults
That just goes to show ya
He’s looking for results
And some final closure
For him the Presidency
Is the ultimate ambrosia

The nose of ISIS face
An inhuman disgrace

May he dwell in hell
The place he must have fell
With no more videos to sell
Now that he’s met his death knell
Unlike the Farmer in the dell
It’s so plain that you can tell
He’s underneath the devil’s spell
So let him scream and yell

You’ve got to figure this
He will not even be missed
Cuz with his knife firmly in fist
He used to violently insist
Cutting heads for him was bliss
And I could go down the list
So as not to be remiss
But I think you get my gist

And just so they will know
We were glad to see him go
See we got him with one blow
Which only goes to show
How our drones kept him in tow
Too late he said, “Oh no!”
He should havce know he had to go
Too bad it wasn’t painful and slow

AND I'LL FILL IN THE BLANKS
Cedric McClester Apr 2016
By: Cedric McClester

They promised us a lot of things
Forty acres and a mule
But didn’t deliver on none of that
They took us for a fool
We’re all created equal
Or so we’re taught in school
For us it’s always one thing
For them it’s another rule

There were eight presidents
Before George Washington
I think I heard Prince say
Unfortunately we can’t question him
He’s dead and gone away
But I still think we owe him
A measure of our thanks
Tell me the whole **** story
And I’ll fill in the blanks

And what about the chemtrails
He mentioned as well
Which affects us in so many ways
That we can’t even tell
What we think is incidental
May not be after all
When we examine it
Up against a purple wall

There were eight presidents
Before George Washington
I think I heard Prince say
Unfortunately we can’t question him
He’s dead and gone away
But I still think we owe him
A measure of our thanks
Tell me the whole **** story
And I’ll fill in the blanks

I must be a conspiracy theorist
You’re probably thinking now
Because I question many things
And want to know the how
How did we get so far gone
It didn’t happen just now
It took time and careful planning
To make us scrape and bow

There were eight presidents
Before George Washington
I think I heard Prince say
Unfortunately we can’t question him
He’s dead and gone away
But I still think we owe him
A measure of our thanks
Tell me the whole **** story
And I’ll fill in the blanks

He addressed his letter to
Dear Mr. Man
And spoke on our behalf
Saying things are out of hand
In general he was saying
Give us the respect we demand
In a way that was impossible
For them to misunderstand

There were eight presidents
Before George Washington
I think I heard Prince say
Unfortunately we can’t question him
He’s dead and gone away
But I still think we owe him
A measure of our thanks
Tell me the whole **** story
And I’ll fill in the blanks

I HOPE YOU'RE SATISFIED
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I hope you're satisfied
Now that you won
But now there's the job
That has to get done
And although the primary
Might have been fun
As President-elect
You're under the gun

See there's the cabinet
That has to be picked
And then there's the people
You've already tricked
Into thinking
You're not derelict
Yes you have the job
But has it yet clicked

By now you've been briefed
And the world's on your shoulders
There's little relief
From those rocks and boulders
That are coming your way
But I thought I told ya
You can't phone it off
Now the job will mold ya

See I'm rooting for you
To have success
Cuz we're depending on you
Nevertheless
You're in much deeper
Than you might have guessed
To get the things done
That you have expressed

WHAT A TERRORIST DOES
Cedric McClester Jul 2015
By: Cedric McClester

He did what
A terrorist does
But we still don’t know
What his motive was
So we can’t say
That it was becuz
We don’t know
And there ain’t no buzz

Semper Fi
We just wanna know why
Four Marines
Were caused to die
In a hail of bullets
That he let fly
And left us praying
That the Sailor don’t die

Tough it hasn’t
Been officially stated
We can assume
That it was terror related
Cos who among us
Is prepared to debate it
The only thing we know
Is that we hate it

Terror on
America’s shore
And we’re afraid
That there’s gonna be more
Although ISIS is probably
At the core
We just speculating
Because we can’t be sure

WHO DETERMINES?
Cedric McClester Oct 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Who determines
What’s the proof
That’s required
To find the truth
Shouldn’t we question
Who’s the sleuth
And do they want
The answer forsooth

Or is it political
At the root
It’s apparent
If you’re astute
They’re just trying
To dilute
A reputation
Which they impute

But what’s done under
The cover of night
Will come out
In the morning’s light
It’s the truth
You know that’s right
It should be them
That we indict

Who determines
When it’s enough
All of us
Should call their bluff
Cos they’re not dealing
With no cream puff
So why should we
Tolerate their guff

A HUCKSTER YESSIREE!
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
He’s a huckster yessiree
With water wine and steaks ya see
A president he’ll never be
That’s not in his destiny
But he can polish up his brand
And talk about his size of hand
To try to make you understand
He’ll whip it out if you demand

Some call it politics
I call it bricks and sticks
With lots of ***** tricks
And undereducated hicks

An egotistical maniac
That’s who he is as a matter of fact
And it doesn’t matter how he acts
Toward Mexicans as well as blacks
Or the Syrians he won’t let in
Now he can spit in the public’s eye
The normal rules don’t seem to apply
But death is something he can’t defy

Some call it politics
I call it bricks and sticks
With lots of ***** tricks
And undereducated hicks

A prevaricator and charlatan
And he’s far from the average man
He’d try to have you understand
Why he advocates a Muslim ban
He alienates almost everyone
Besides the thousands who come
To his rallies are they dumb
Or have affinity for a stumble ***

Some call it politics
I call it bricks and sticks
With lots of ***** tricks
And undereducated hicks

Give him credit he tries hard
Despite the fact that he’s so flawed
To enter partnership with God
And get the masses to applaud
He’s no genius as he pretends
He has too many loose ends
And fewer real true friends
Outside of bonds with dividends

Some call it politics
I call it bricks and sticks
With lots of ***** tricks
And undereducated hicks

ANOTHER BLACK MAN DOWN!
Cedric McClester Jul 2018
By:Cedric McClester

Another black man down,
Because of Stand Your Ground!
Examples do abound,
Allow me to expound
It’s a license to ****,
For those inclined, who will
Who have the requisite skill
Assured of no True bill

When push came to shove
He was disposed of
Wasn’t shown no love
The bullet lodged above
Somewhere in the chest
As he drew his last breath
In front of his bereft
They knew that his soul left

And can you believe,
He was turning to leave
When a gun was retrieved
From a pocket not a sleeve
As you might have guessed
The bullet hit his chest
I guess you know the rest,
There was no arrest!

How could there be?
When the law you see,
Lets the shooter go free
But here’s the key
If during the strife
He feared for his life
Then he had the legal right
To shoot him on sight
