The Longest Summer Day
Catey Ellis Feb 2017
My brain is somewhere under a tree
Lazing in a hammock
Eyes closed
Feet up

My mind is wandering the hazy backstreets
Of a sleepy beach town
Sandy feet and salty hair

My heart is swimming in the ocean
Ducking under waves
Drifting and floating into the calm waters

It has been the longest summer day

Fade Away
Catey Ellis Feb 2017
The rain
It has a language of its own
Its accent is soft spoken
And its words tap on my window

Late at night
When I’m wrapped in my sheets
with thoughts, too loud
Louder than the rains lullaby’s
And I can’t sleep

I listen
To its silky voice sing
I fall into a sleepy daze
And slowly, my thoughts fade
Away
Away
*Away

Naive Lover
Catey Ellis Feb 2017
Your fingertips kiss her skin
and embrace her body

You seem to know every curve
every line
every dint of her- physically

But you lack to take in the bumps and ridges of her mind
her delights
her wonders
her terrors

You touch her with dishonest hands
But not even the softest most delicate hands
could reveal the firy love she holds in her heart
Your lips on hers won't expel the poetry she has to speak
Your touch on her waist won't unlock her burning soul

More than a woman written in brail
She is a work of art

You do not need to touch her to understand her

The Sky Was a Garden
Catey Ellis Feb 2017
I looked at the sky in awe
in the day's dusk'
the clouds started blushing
roses grew from their cheeks
the sky was a garden
and I could smell the love

The Moon And Stars
Catey Ellis Jan 2017
“If everybody likes you, you’re doing it wrong.”

On these dark nights
When the air is fresh and brisk
She is concealed in the sky
And speaks secrets in a soft voice
Showing only her beauty and grace
Her movements are slow and shy
The whispers barely leave her lips

it’s on these nights
She is accompanied by thousands that are fascinated
by her mystery
She attracts even the faintest and shallow of them
They look on in awe
But they don’t see her entirety

it’s the nights that are much brighter- lit by her beaming smile
It’s these nights she reveals herself as a whole
Full and ripe
Baltering and twirling
uncovering her weaknesses and blemishes
completely real and truthful

It’s these nights she only attracts a few
Yet they are the brightest, most incandescent of them all
They sing and dance around her carelessly
They love all night long
In the sky

Lost For Words
Catey Ellis Jan 2017
There are so many things I want to say to you

but I am unable
there are no words soft enough
there are no words delicate enough
to describe your love

they form in my heart
choke in my throat
and die before they reach my breath

so I say nothing
I kiss you instead
and hope that you understand

I dream of silk sheets

and the feeling of being wrapped in them with you
