This Is Not A Love Poem
This is not a love poem

This is not a love poem
Like most of mine are
It is more a poem of love
For who you really are

You are so sweet to listen
To my past hurting  love
That I wanted to say thank you
And give a written hug

You have responded to my poems
When you thought I was in need
And offered just to listen
If just to comfort me

I know that you're not near to me
But the distance isnt far
For two hearts, once broken
Are never far apart

For this is not a love poem
Like most of mine are
It is a poem saying thank you
You helped heal a broken heart

Carl J. Roberts
This is for those who have reached out to try to comfort. Please know that I have moved forward and my past love/hurt poems are from memories of the past. Thank you.

Christian Cops
Christian Cops

Yes I believe in Jesus
Are the words that I say
When someone I've arrested
Cries, pleads and prays

Yes I believe in Jesus
Are words they need to hear
When sentenced to prison
And given twenty years

Yes I believe in Jesus
I have already found my way
My believing hurts no others
And help me through my day

Yes I believe in Jesus
And still I do my job
Protecting from the dangers
With a guiding light from above

Yes I believe in Jesus
And inside I feel your pain
For Jesus can forgive you
But Justice requires you pay

Yes I believe in Jesus

Carl Joseph Roberts
So many times every day in the back of a cruiser, cops are asked if they believe in a hope that their belief will allow freedom from a crime.  Freedom and forgiveness is something you must seek from up above.  I never preached to anyone I arrested for my beliefs is my own.  I believe that there are many different paths to be taken. Some people are guided to preach , some guided as teachers, some nurses, firefighters and many other professions. We all have a different path and for many cops that path is to protect.

Lost Memory
Lost Memory

Today I lost a memory
And that memory was of you
I will no longer search my soul
For that memory once so true

Your memory no longer takes my days
Nor fills my dreams each night
For those memories have been washed away
With this start of my new life

I no longer feel the hurt
My once troubled heart is calm
For all the pain that I once felt
Has been washed away with time

I know now memories can be lost
And replaced with something new
For today I lost a memory
And that memory was of you

I Got Nothing (suicide)

I got nothing
Nothing else inside
Nothing else to speak about
Nothing else to hide

I got nothing
Nothing to call mine
Nothing to make me smile
Nothing to leave behind

I got nothing
Nothing to ease the pain
Nothing to protect me
Nothing to guide the way

I got nothing
Nothing else to give
Nothing else to hope for
Nothing to make me live

Thinking Of Someone Special
Thinking Of Someone Special

Thinking Of Someone Special
As I start a brand new day
Wishing I could see them
Knowing they're far away

Wondering when I'll get a chance
To hold them in my arms
Hoping that they feel the same
For this time we are apart

Thinking of someone special
Knowing that I must wait
Dreaming of them every night
While still talking every day

Thinking of someone special
Till that day when we unite
So that I can tell them face to face
They are special in my life

Thinking of someone special

My Waiting Time Is Done
My Waiting Time Is Done

I was waiting for you to find me
And I waited much to long
Ready to share my love again
But knowing you are gone

Waiting to have that feeling
Of a love that is so true
Knowing love is out there
I was waiting just for you

Waiting to hear your voice again
Trying to understand
Wanting to see your smile
Needing to hold your hand

I know now that you never cared
And I waited way to long
With a broken heart I say these words
My waiting time is done

100,000 Thank You's"*

One hundred thousand visits
Of my poems you have viewed
So today I take a moment
To give my thanks to you

I never knew the joy I'd find
In sharing my short rhymes
The peace I'd feel inside my heart
With each poem that I write

Sometimes I've made my readers cry
And at times I've made them laugh
I hope there's been some lessons learn
And you feel I've given back

Please know I read your poems
And each comment that you write
For me it is a special gift
When other poets say they like

One hundred thousand visits
Of my poems you have viewed
So today a take a moment
To give my thanks to you*

Carl Joseph Roberts

Thank you all so very much for reading my many poems over these past 18 months.  Reaching 100,000 views was a goal of mine as a poet. I have been requested to place my work in book form and now that my first goal of 100,000 has been reached I think I am going to reach for my second goal and publish my work. It will be nice to have something to pass on to my son and hopefully grandchildren one day.

I Know I'll Love Again
I Know I'll Love Again

I should feel bad that I dont hurt
The way that I once did
But this love we shared was very short
And I know I'll love again

Dont be sad this did not work
We both said we would try
The past has made us question love
There's no need to cry

A short romance is what we had
Then decided it should end
We say the words we know aren't true
Like we promise to stay friends

No chapter in my book of life
Instead you get a line
Some will read and understand
And some will wonder why

I should feel bad that I dont hurt
The way that I once did
But the love we shared was very short
And I know I'll love again

Carl Joseph Roberts
New relationships dont always work, sometimes they are meant to fill a needed void in life. Sometimes they  help you fill a moment in time. No fault and no regret just happy to have had the joy of a few months.

More Than Dreams
More Than Dreams

I wanted you to know today
Of this love I hold inside
So strong it never goes away
It cannot be denied

This love it formed so very fast
The day that I met you
I knew from that first moment
That this love inside was true

This love I feel makes me whole
Knowing I have found my one
Gives me peace inside my soul
And I know my search is done

I hope you know just how I feel
And of what it truly means
I give to you all my heart
You are more then I could dream

Spin The Bottle
Spin The Bottle

That bottle spins in a game of chance
Who you'll kiss depends where it lands
It lands on me and we begin our life
Then a ring is given you become my wife

A child is born to change my view
I'm now responsible for someone new
Then one day you come to me
You tell me soon there will be three

So we buy a house where we can grow
We fix it up and call it home
It's not big enough for our family now
So we sell that home and look around

We find a home in a different town
To raise our kids until there grown
The days are spent in each others arms
Still holding hands, two melded hearts

That bottle knew just where to land
For it stopped on me and our life began
Spin the bottle's not a game a chance
Its a gift from God and it's heaven sent

Carl J. Roberts
No this  is not me. I wrote this for a friend of mine who said write a poem about spin the bottle. This is how I see his life with his wife. I have known him for many years and this is what I feel his life with his wife has gone.

A Fathers Love
I call him son

I think about him every day
His blond hair and green eyes
The way he walks into a room
And brightens up my life

He understands my feelings
Like no one else has done
In all the years I've know him
I've always called him son

He has this way about him
That makes me want to laugh
When we spend time together
It goes bye way to fast

I remember as a child
How much he needed me
Now he's grown into a man
And is needing to fly free

I am so very proud of him
And In all the things he's done
But the thing that im most proud of
Is that I can call him son

Carl J. Roberts
For my son Kylor
I love you son
You can never understand unconditional love until you feel the love of and for a child.  I know that im like many other fathers, but for me, I feel like im the luckiest man in the world to be able to call him son.

Waiting In Line For Nothing
Waiting In Line For Nothing

Waiting in line for nothing
Thats how I feel each day
Wanting to move forward
Waisting my life away

Giving all I have to give
New hope with each new day
Not listening to that voice inside
Telling me to walk away

Waiting in line for nothing
For a change that will not come
Trying to give you all I can
Refusing to give up

Wishing you would love me
Calling out your name
Hoping that you hear me
And cryin every day

Waiting in line for nothing
In the morning I'll be gone
I cant wait for you to love me
For the waiting line's to long

True Love From Inside
True love from inside

Know that love is never certain
As you look back on the past
True love is not just given
It takes work to make it last

There is no rush to find the one
For in time the one will come
We can wait and let true love grow
But when grown the works not done

We grow older and we realize
That true love just takes time
We realize what really counts
Is the love we feel inside

A 5000 View Thank You

I got 5000 views today
In just two months time
I never thought you would like
So many of my rhymes

I almost never listed them
For all the world to see
I held them close to my heart
Thinking they were just for me

Each poem a different part of me
A memory lost in time
Or a current thought of something new
That somehow caught my eye

Many are of my past love
And all the hurt that it had caused
The emotions that ran so very deep
And a healing journey of it all

Some I hope are funny
And make you hold your side
While others I hope have meaning
That make you wonder why

I have new friends that share this love
That have viewed 5000 times
I am so grateful that you liked
So many of my rhymes

Opinions
Just opinions and we all have them
It is not my intention to offend
My poems they come from my soul
Formed by passion and sometimes bold
Though you may not like what I say
I have a right to feel this way
These poems I write are mine alone
If you don't like then just move on
No need to message and threaten me
I will not change to meet your needs
I have been a cop way to long
Do not think your words can harm
If you dont like what I say
Just message me and it's okay
Choose your words and we can debate
I will delete words of hate
Just opinions and we all have them
It is not my intention to offend
My poems come from my soul
Formed by passion and sometimes bold

Carl Joesph Roberts
Written in response to several who have messaged me concerning my last poem, Profiling. I realize it is a tough subject with incidents that have occurred recently but this is just one view, my view. I love a debate and I will discuss my views with anyone. I however will not listen to, post or allow to stay, words of hate.  Those who know me , know that I would never tolerated prejudice and I will erase words of hate immediately. Again if you have a problem them simply say so in words that do not promote hate or violence. Thanks for reading my poems and if you read them you.will see that prejudice thoughts are the furthest thing from my mind.  Thanks again for reading... Joe
That Something's Always You
(A Parents Love)

Each morning when I wake up
And start my day anew
I think of something that I love
And that something's always you

I wisper that I love you
And kiss you on the cheek
Stand there in the moment
And think how lucky can I be

I watch as you turn over
To block the sunlight from your eyes
Then pull up the covers
Your attempt to try to hide

I tell you that it's time to wake
You must now begin your day
You look at me and smile
And all my troubles go away

For each morning when I wake
And start my day anew
I think of something that I love

And that something's always you

Driveway Moments
Driveway Moments

Shows we hear, songs we sing
While on our way home
Pull in the drive and close our eyes
And simply sing along

Hear them talk about that thing
That we've always wondered too
Smile and say I understand
And think its just for you

Driveway moments take us away
Say things we need to know
Lets us sing along with them
And sometimes helps us grow

Gives a different point of view
Memories from the past
Moments that get locked in time
That will now forever last

The voices come across so clear
The tunes we can't forget
We sit and listen to each word
Driveway moments are the best

Poem by: Carl Joseph Roberts (Joe)
Was just thinking of those moments when a program or song is so riveting that we just sit in the driveway and listen. Sometimes we talk back to the program or we know every word to the song and sing along. Weather a song or a program, Driveway moments keep us calm and are some of the best and happiest moments in time. Next time you see someone singing along or talking back to there car radio just remember its all great memories.

Insomnia
Insomnia

I lay awake and worry
On things I cant control
How to change my future
Or put my past on hold

I try to think of something else
Close my eyes and clear my head
Erase my mind of worry
For the day I have ahead

Sleep will help me start out fresh
Awake with different views
If only I could finally rest
I could start my day renewed

So I lay there and I tell myself
That it's time for me to sleep
If only I could start to dream
I would get the rest I need

You Do This

What do you do when it's not there
And its no where to be found
What do you do when no one cares
And there are no friends around
What do you do when life gets tough
And you think you've had enough
What do you do when love is gone
And you know it wont come back

You find whats there and make it work
For you know it was never lost
You care for them in a time of need
And never worry about the cost
You show them that, you've been there too
And that you know how hard it is
Then go out, find someone new
And fill your heart with bliss

You said you were leaving
But I cant believe its true
How can I look into those eyes I love
And say good-bye to you

I will always remember the feelings
That we shared on that first day
The feeling that our love was true
And would never go away

I know your love is gone now
And I must start my life anew
I must find a way to hear your words
And move forward without you

I'll wonder if you'll think of me
Or of the love that we once shared
With a broken heart I write these word
For how much I truly care

As you look back on the memory
Of our love that was once true
Please know that while you're far away

The Truth
The Truth

Why is the truth so hard to hear
When we say it's what we want
Just knowing that once it's heard
It can never be undone

We say it matters most of all
It's what we look for most
Find a reason to not believe
Think it's not worth the cost

We seek the truth from others
Demand that it come out
Then refuse to look deep within
And hide it from ourselves

The truth can sometimes set us free
It is what life's about
We must take our time and listen
And just let the truth come out

Carl Joseph Roberts
This poem written as shooting and riots rock the St. Louis area. No matter what side you are on, let the courts decide and don't riot and destroy. Hear all the facts from both sides and remember the old saying that two wrongs don't make a right. Let the truth come out, but realize you may not always like or want to hear the truth.

The Reminder of Love
The Reminder Of Love

Once we were lovers
Then somehow it all changed
Now we act like perfect strangers
Trying to forget each other's names

In your hands you held my heart
Back then it seemed so real
Now my heart it is in pieces
Trying to remember how you feel

When you left it hurt all over
So much more then I could bare
I hid my feelings deep within
Pretending I don't care

No new memories of the good times
Where we walk while holding hands
Just the knowing of a love once strong
That has now come to an end

As we walk away from this love
And go our separate ways
I will always see the love we shared
In the child that they made

Collaborative Poem by: Carl Joseph Roberts &
R.G. Browning

Just For Me (Cops Day Off)
A Cops Day Off

Today I take just for me
No worries for others or their families
Sometimes we need just one day off
From the stress of life, protecting all

Today I do not take your call
I cannot be late to what you saw
No tickets that you hate to see
For today, well today I take just for me

Today I will not council you
On what your allowed or not to do
I cannot help a marriage lost
For today is just my one day off

I'll see no parents walk away
Expecting me to save the day
I teach no lessons of what should be
For today I take just for me

No fights with drugs or alcohol
And today I see no jail at all
I know you think I shouldnt need
But today , today I'm taking just for me

Carl J. Roberts
I know not everyone will understand this one and some may say its not a good poem. Sometimes my poems are juest of a fleeting thought as I wake up and this is one of those thoughts. I give thanks now every day
For all I've learned along the way

Wouldn't want to change the past

Wasn't always fun and games
There were trials along the way
Found true love a time or two

Why I'm Single...lol
You know men are just plain better
At most things that we do
You may say wait one minute
But inside you know it's true

A man can change a tire
We can even build a house
We know when it's time to talk
And when to shut our mouth

Now some women say I'm crazy
So I've been told a time or two
If only you would listen
When I tell you what to do

As a man myself I'll tell you
Exactly what you need
I know that you will understand
For your job is just to please

Now it could be that a womans job
Is harder then I think
You do have to clean all day
Then have dinner made for me

I've heard women say they cant believe
I've stayed single for this long
Then shake their heads and walk away
I think there's something I'm doing wrong

What could it be, what could it be...lol

A War Without An End
They say this is a new war
But it's happened many times
The killings and the murders
The destruction left behind

We take sides, stand our ground
With no soldiers at our doors
Not knowing of the pain they feel
What they must endure

Occupied or Terrorist
Both sides refuse to lose
So they fight and **** each other
Each side with different views

We judge them for their actions
Not knowing their true pain
Innocents on both sides
With their lives they now must pay

One will win, one will lose
But the death it will not end
For their religion they must follow
A War without an end

I dont know what to write
Every word that I put down
Seems somehow not to rhyme

I try to push through it
Come up with perfect lines
Then erase each word on the page
And start over one more time

I know that it will come to me
I must simply clear my mind
Allow the words to just flow free
And write them line by line

But right now I have nothing
And I dont know what to write
Every word that I put down
Seems somehow not to rhyme

Christmas Has A Meaning
We must not forget to see
For a gift of love called Jesus
Was born for you and me

On a night so filled with darkness
A star did shine so bright
To guide the way for all to see
The Savior born that night

King of Kings they would proclaim
Kneeling faithful by his side
In the manger lay the Son Of God
The Messiah had arrived

The glory of this childs birth
We celebrate in many lands
He brings the world love and hope
Peace on earth good will to man

Heavens Door

He visits now his mother
His father stands there by his side
His sisters and a brother
Guide him to the shinning light

His days on earth remembered
By those who still remain
We talk about the life he lived
All the love that he once gave

A man who served his country
Was a soldier in our wars
Loving husband and a father
He was a gift that was adored

He faced the end with honor
Like his father did before
Now he goes to be with Jesus
He walks through Heavens door

How To Write A Perfect Poem
How To Write A Perfect Poem

So you want to write a poem
That the world will want to view
One that is so special
It will change a life or two

You can try to make it funny
To make your readers laugh
Or maybe a love story
To bring a feeling back

You may want to bring them into it
Let them feel your pain
Or show them there's a different side
A new path they should take

You can let them see deep within
Show them something new
Have them ask a question
Or maybe answer one for you

You can write a perfect poem
If its what you want to do
Just take the time and feel the words
That are deep inside of you

Just know that many poems of the past
Get read by very few
Still each poem, your poem is just perfect
If it touches only you

Write your perfect poem

He always stands beside me
And helps me through each storm

In my fathers eyes
I feel the love he has for me
Gives it freely every day
And want the world to see

In my fathers eyes
As I look into his soul
I see the man I want to be
The day that I grow old

In my fathers eyes

The Love Of Poetry
We consider ourselves writers
Painting pictures with our words
So others have a chance to view
A message that needs heard

We hope that we are givers
Of wonders never seen
That each new verse that we write
Is something someone needs

We try to make a difference
Give a different point of view
Hope that readers understand
Maybe change a life or two

I call myself a poet
And do all the things above
Although I do this for myself
I also do it out of love

Cupids Days Are Done
Cupids Days Are Done

Well it's the day after Valentines
And Cupid did not come
Now I'm waiting at my bedroom door
Putting bullets in my gun

I waited until midnight
Then today rolled around
Now if Cupid ever shows his head
Cupid gets knocked out

At first I planned to scare him
For all he's put me through
But ****** seems a better choice
Since I've had a drink or two

Now I could be drinking way to much
Because I think I'm seeing things
Or Cupid may have slipped me drugs
Just to get away from me

Did I just see a Santa
I'm hearing reindeer on my roof
My drinking could be trouble
Giggling Goblins are afoot

I think I saw a Bunny
Is that a beer orna green elf
Cupid he won't raise his head
Afraid to show himself

Did I just hear a Turkey chuckle
I'm seeing pink arrows everywhere
Maybe I should take a nap
Or I could just have another beer

Well it's the day after Valentines
And Cupid did not come
He gets maybe one more year
