Knock knock...
Who's there?
It's the fire in your belly,
just checking you're aware...

Hey, you know... I'm still here...
I'm not going anywhere.
It seems I used to be volcanic,
now I  barely singe a hair.

Magmatic in my golden days,
when did I grow dormant?
As you aged you acquiesced,
not living in the moment.

Rekindle my cinders,
your indifference is abhorrent.
You used to fight for your beliefs,
now the white flag is a soaring.

Give me white hot purpose,
give me a voice that roars,
the Beastie Boys fought for their right,
why can't you fight for yours?

You only get one shot,
you chose a pushover to the core?
Don't be the heedless hero,
be an involved...
...*******...
Tyrannosaur.

Open up your canyon lungs
and let me breathe like I am living.
I have forgotten what this tastes like.
The sky is awfully quiet,
like it has something to hide.
Dig up your bruised knuckles
from those sand-filled pockets.
We will rebuild the sun.
I sink my teeth into forgiveness
and it pours out my mouth.
Overripe;
I always wait too long.
Foolish, to keep important things
in drawers you never look in.
So I’ve dug up the front yard,
there were directions here somewhere.
Do not look at me like the stopwatches on our hearts
are the same.
Mine is counting up.
But forget that I left the front door unlocked,
this is a postcard from where I am visiting.
I hope it makes you hopeful too.
I’m sorry I don’t say things I don’t mean.
You are the ocean,
and I never know where to put my hands.
These morning clouds glow pink as
they dance across the skating rink
of the waking sky, which turns a glassy blue,
a classy, sassy hue, each cloud winks hello
to me and
as I look up the sun sets free
the glory of the day.

His home is an orphanage
in downtown Belize.
Triple-decker bunk beds
topped with ***** stained mattresses
fill each room.
An abandoned 10 year old
lies paralyzed on the floor;
"Don't touch him. Nobody ever touches him."
A small child covered in sores
sleeps in a puddle of his own *****.

I offer a container of pink Play-dough to a boy
who proceeds to sculpt me
changing the pink to brown
with his ***** hands.
"What is your name?"
"I'm Allen"
He tells me about his dreams of leaving Belize
and becoming a U.S. soldier.
He tells me of how his mother,
a **** addict,
dropped him off at the doorstep when he was 8 years old
and how he remembers
the look of fear and disappointment in her eyes
every time she looked at him
and saw his father looking back.
His favorite color is blue.
Together, we make bracelets with colorful beads,
and as I stand to leave
he hands me a pinkish-brown heart
warm and sweaty
from his ***** hands.
And in return
I hand Allen,
and every child like him,
my own heart
red and ******,
dedicated and passionate,
foolishly and hopefully attempting
to change the world.
You're going to miss me when I'm gone
and the way our fingers
traced each lie on skin

I have a pocket full of regrets
and an empty heart
so where shall I begin?

your beauty left me wanting more
but you're the flower
I should've never picked

Some things are better off admired from afar,
causing thorns to lose their power, but your pain
made me a willing addict

I tried to pick up all your pieces
and assemble them
the best I could

but in the end, beneath the pressure, you crumbled
you were more fragile
than I truly understood
I'm sorry for ever falling in love
with you, Raygan. It was your downfall
and I have to live with myself knowing
that I should have left before we took
that plunge.

You are tea,
serene in your surroundings.

                                                                                                           I am coffee,
                                                                                 attention always bounding.

Your colour a milkish pale,
creamy optimism.

                                                                                                 I am taken black,
                                                                                                     bitter cynicism.

Two sugars,
to match your disposition.

                                                                                                         None for me,
                                                                          I'll maintain my grim affliction.

                                               We differ so much,
                                                     it's obscene.

                                                   But in the end
                                               we're both caffeine.
