I wonder would he turn and meet my face
Twisted with anguish and despair,
In this unfortunate, unnerving place
He couldn't hold my stare

How could he leave us here,
Trapped so far in the mud down low
Trembling with gut-wrenching fear
While we are slaughtered like pigs, down below

Yet I dream of stars and endless heights
Destiny, power and the earth,
Stare up into the blackest night
Ever conscience of my worth,

Tiny lights of the galaxy meet my eyes
Sliding back behind my skull,
Somewhere in a corrupt void, a man cries
Overwhelming waves of null,

A single spirit wanders the universe
Living in isolation,
Lonely alone living out his curse
Spiralling into despair and damnation,

I wish I could feel his pain
All these feelings are confined,
Against these ancient shackles, he shall strain
Fighting on to win his mind,

Wails of torment within every breath
Dry tears stream down a cheek,
Suffering against inexorable death
Lucidity is growing weak,

The will is strong, but the world is relentless
The soldier takes a pill,
His time is long, but the world is endless
A body soon goes still,

Blood goes stale and the spirit leaves
And the people stare and nod
And the soldier of life cries and grieves
And understands there is no God.
