I don't remember, any more,
The exact shape of your hands
As I held them in mine,
Caressed them,
Memorized the length of your fingers,
The depth of your calluses.

I don't remember, any more,
Exactly your height, how much
Taller than me
You were, where
My head rested on your chest
When you held me tightly close.

I don't remember, any more,
Your scent, when we lay together
Creating our own
Magic rhythm,
Matching our heartbeats as we
Touched the sky, together.

I don't remember, any more,
The sound of your voice, calling
My name as though
It were a song
Within itself, a precious treasure
You valued with all your being.

And I don't remember, any more,
The color of your eyes, the shape
Of your lips,
Only...
How your eyes crinkled at the corners
And your laugh, as you told me,

"I love you."

Your name is the loveliest word
I've ever said. In my life
I've never known someone like you.
Your aura is a quilt
that I could spend all day in
if you'd let me.
I think the chances of me meeting
another you are absurd
and I find the whole idea
to be terrifying.
I could make so much room
for you in my heart.

You fade...
Like a bruise.

Like the ones your mouth left on my neck and shoulders with its lustful pressure.
Your teeth, which brought moments of bright pain/pleasure,
Are now bared in an artificial, animal smile.

Your lips, which parted to ******* skin like it was salvation,
Barely part now to speak to me.
You whispered my name like a prayer.
You screamed it like a curse.
You sighed it in contentment,
And now you won't even speak it in passing.

Your hands, which half-playfully pulled my hair...
Now won't pause to brush it from my face.

All these parts of you,
None more telling than your eyes.
Those new windows, which once let me pry...
Now have blinds drawn tight behind them,
Leaving only a pretty, shiny reflection-
A passing, glancing imitation-
Of the passion they once held
When they beheld
Me.

No color left to them but the muddy colors of
Boredom,
And possibly mistrust.

You fade...
Like a bruise.
Like the one you left on my mind with your brilliant conversation
And beautiful, rusty prose.
Like the many you left on my tongue...
Which now can speak nothing but trite and meaningless words,
Which now can barely remember the shapes
Of all the shimmering, liquid phrases it spoke to you
That seemed so important at the time.

You fade...
Like a bruise.
Once lover and friend,
Now barely one
And never the other again.

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

And I just want to feel your breath
On my neck
And your *******
On my chest
And I just want to feel your lips
On my cheek
Telling me I’ll be okay
When I’m feeling awfully weak
And I just want to see your eyes
Meeting mine
Soft orbs of blue
Too mature for your time
And I just want to hear your voice
Whispering softly in my ear
Be here with me
Be near
I can’t handle this distance
Not only of miles, but of mind
I never could catch you
But god how long I tried.

Stop showing
You love me
A little at a time.

Stop saying
You care
Bit by bit.

Stop keeping
Me here
For tiny pieces of time.

Because I need
All of you
Not piece by piece.

I love
All of you
Not just some parts of you.

So love all of me
All the way
All the time.

Or let all of me go
All at once
For good.

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine

The cursor blinks at me,
A white screen
Staring
Waiting for my emotions to fill it
To the brim
Overflowing with emotion

And I’m not sure I am ready to let that out of my heart
It has become too much a part of me
And I’m afraid if I let it go
If I let one tear fall
One drop brushed away

I’ll lose it all
Every experience
Every moment

And I can’t bear to lose you
Not yet
Which is why I have to stop typing this poem
Now

And my insides are screaming for the release
And I don’t know if I can even stop typing
And I don’t know what my life will be without this
If I could freeze everything
I would
Without hesitation
If I could give up my future
To just spend forever in today
I would

But weeks will pass
And soon we will all be gone our separate ways
And I can’t let you go.
Not yet.

And I’m so afraid I will let it out
And as soon as I let go of the pain
This moment will be gone
And only an echo of laughter will remain
Until I again am complacent
And content
And even though I know in that moment I’ll truly believe it is all for the best
I can’t imagine anything more tragic
Then the moment I let myself forget what happiness has felt like.
Which is why I will never write the poem
Screaming to escape.
Change scares me.
They say you hurt
The ones you love
The most.
I wonder how true
That must be.

I can't even bear to think
Of hurting you.
Yet you give out hurt
Like its a hobby.

With all the pain
You've put me through
You must love me
More than I could ever
Love you.

Why does my body ignore what my mind says?
It seems you’ve rented the space up there and took control of my senses.
I’m defenseless.
I wonder how it feels to know the meaning of your very own hearts existence.
But why does my heart disregard my thoughts of you,
And dismiss your resistance?

I would hate to mistake love with a phase of contentment.
Would hate to mistake a blessing with an illness,
Only prescribed to your prescription,
With no sign of resilience.

Why do your actions contradict everything that you claim to me?
My heart beats fast and slow at the same time,
Every time I look into the eyes of the man that you claim to be.
Is it best that I leave?
What are you saying to me?

I never thought that my destruction
would be caused by a refutation to love lazily.

Why can’t I withstand the urge to cower from your affection?
Preparing to be submerged by a wave of your rejection.
I would hate to just become another one of your hearts lessons.
This recurring drain of energy that you withdraw from me,
Has proven detrimental to my soul’s projection.

I wonder how it feels to know that I love you with no exceptions.
And I wonder how it'll feel if we realize we've bypassed perfection.
