I'm feeling so up these days
I hope your down with that

Things have seemed to turn out right
Since my girlfriend left me

She moved up North
When our relationship went South

I'm a grown man
But I'll miss her calling me baby

Her sweet mother was
A Drill Sargent in the Army

Her family always ordered
Breakfast at dinner time

Then one day my girl did eat
Ketchup on her hot dog

At that very moment
Was the beginning of the end for me

Who doesn't know Ketchup goes on a burger!
Mustard goes on a hot dog!
Am I right!? Uh? Well am I!
Oh I'm sorry...where was I?

Oh yea, one more thing...
Her father liked to smile upside down

I called it a frown
But he called it the way he felt about me...

Some people don't find their calling
Sometimes it takes a whole life.
I'm so glad that you found yours,
Even so early in life.

You don't know what it is?
Well haven't you guessed?

Your calling is to protect,
You work so hard
Just to keep us all safe.

Ready to sacrifice so much,
Your life.
All for us.

I find it so amazing,
How hard you work each day,
To get me my fairy tale ending.
Of peace.

I know it's a lot to ask,
for anything more than you give.
But I have just one request,
Please, if you would,
Live.

Never change who you are,
For you change all the rest.
No matter what happens.

Others may chase you,
They won't make it easy.

They are made to destroy
To decimate.

You toil for your efforts
In rain and in sun
And you work hard to protect
Everyone.

Not just those who ask,
Or those that you think of in your prayers,
But all people
fall under your blanket of protection.

Thank you.
A word to the soldiers, this poem is dedicated to the men and women serving or who have served in the military. Thank you for your time and for keeping us safe.

i wrote because i never wanted to forget
the way your laugh sounded in
the middle of
June
i never wanted to forget about
your smile and the way you looked at me,
when we first saw
e a c h o t h e r
but now June is over
the leaves are
f a l l i n g
it ain't summer here anymore
your smile is fading
and you don't look at me the same.

you always told me the littlest things
that you loved about me,
wether it was the spark in my eye
or the way i smiled in between
our make out sessions.
usually we'd sit and talk for hours,
trying to understand half
of the things you said.

you told me you loved
most of the things that i couldn't
figure out. it was like solving a jigsaw puzzle.
you loved the way
the sun kissed my face, so you'd reach out and touch it in the most
un expectable way.
you loved the way i teased you
before you leaned in to kiss me,
we both laughed because you
ran out of words to say.

so i told you all of the things i loved
about you.
as i told you, you tried hard
to make it clear that you were listening
and that i had your full attention.
i told you i wasn't good with words
and explaining my self.
but you understood anyway,
you still listened.
i couldn't find a way to
tell you
that i'm in love with you and everything
that you do.

maybe it was in the way
that you put your hand on my face
or the back of my neck,
when you leaned in to kiss me.
but i know that i wouldn't change it
for anything in the world.

There's trouble growing in the garden
As the carrots make fun of those that are green
The potatoes are keeping their eyes out
Staring down those bleeding heart beets

Leaves of spinach are flexing their muscles
And of course the corn are all ears
Broccoli is green with envy
With the onions always in tears

The rhubarb has a thing for the strawberries
Can't seem to get along with anyone else
New to the winter garden which has the vegies talking
Not sure this frost will ever melt

The asparagus has been here forever
And the pole beans are always vaulting the fence
The lima's are out searching for the wisdom of the succotash
As the lettuce wonders where its head went

Yes there's trouble growing in the garden
Like we haven't all seen this before
The only time they get along is flash frozen and packaged
Chilling behind the grocer's freezer door

This is me

This is me missing you

It is the one reflection

Of what it is that I once knew

Pull ever so tightly on the strings

Of this heart that still holds true

To the one reflection

Of me missing you

soul in torment
Oh Mr Ted is not in bed
I think he's run away
or its a game without a name
he's made for us to play

Oh look a note pinned to my coat
It says I am a clue
Seek out the home of Mr gnome
he waits to talk to you

So down the stairs in one's and pairs
and slip my wellies on
then out the door and read once more
the clue marked number one

There just beyond the goldfish pond
the gnome awaits me so
He points the way as if to say
that ways the way to go

I rush on past going so fast
I nearly missed clue three
So slowed my pace to find the place
the clue was sending me

it said take time to read this rhyme
as I lend you a hand
the shadows tall upon the wall
Will show you were I stand

The sundial loomed where roses bloomed
the sunlight at its back
upon its face a note was placed
a picture of a sack

Toward the shed and Mr Ted
but no he was not there
another clue tucked in a shoe
that said make me a pear

The old pear tree yes there I see
another picture clue
back to the start and search your heart
to know what next to do

Back up to bed now what was said
my heart what does that mean
of course the box once filled with chocs
we ate on Halloween

Opened with care the clue is there
it says now come find me
I'm in my seat waiting to eat
as it is time for tea.

What fun I said hugging dear Ted
your games are just the best
I've had such fun but now I've won
and how I need to rest

So sitting there beside my bear
my eyelids felt like lead
I'm tired see please come with me
it's time we were in bed

Goodnight God bless we need our rest
It's been a busy day
and Ted and me are so sleepy
from games we love to play

It took every ounce of self control
not
to kiss you...

not to take you in my arms

inhaling deep
the very scent of floral meadows
from your hair

not to hold your hands
with fingers trembling

nor to speak openly
my love...

my feelings

that I have
so often
held

here ...

close to my chest

muffling the very beating
of my heart

in such pained
poetic

silence

Yet

but for one moment of weakness
I could
have made known

my need

my pain

my longing to be touched

but no...

for I would never risk
all that we are ...

nor
all we have

for nothing more
than
a

moment of madness.
