Tea Time

Tea time
And I sit alone
At the table
Hearing cicadas drone
Seeing roses climb the gable
Steam coming from my small mug burns
And without you here, I am now able
To focus on much bigger concerns
Like what color to paint the picket fence
Or where to place this quaint birdhouse
Or what to name the new little field mouse
That scurries outside where the magnolias bloom
right next to the headstone where the leaves are strewn
An orange-rose halo suffused
    the eastern horizon
like the birth of a fresh new world.

Our celestial furnace, still veiled
    beyond the eastern edge,
lent its glow to the bright silver disk
still hovering in the western sky.

In the chill still of an autumn morn
    where yesterday greets tomorrow,
a sermon wrought of science and spirit
    whispered through the aether,

        "All is hope.
            All is promise.
                All is awakening,"
I am mad within my own mind
I have come to insanity
there is nothing that can save me
call the exorcist
defile the demon that is within
destroy what need no longer be living
there is a monster within my soul
gnawing on my very flesh
chilling me to the bone
inside me is a witch
crafting her evil right inside my brain
the voices they tell me to wait and die
there are maniacs inside my ears
and lunatics on my tongue
speaking evil words for me
tonight i banish them away
let the choir and angels sing to me.

She fell off the side
Of the steepest cliff.

She holds onto the edge
Hanging on for her life.

But her arms are tired,
So tired.

She's been holding on
for so long now.

Her fingers are bleeding
Just like her heart.

She's slipping
So slowly
Oh so slowly
It wasn't the smell that made them sick
It was what it meant
The realization that came all too quick
Why she hadn't responded

They ran upstairs to her room
Their feet making a choice their hearts weren't ready for
Why did they leave her alone.

She was there, in her bed, peaceful
Everything in their bodies screeched to a halt
They didn't breathe they didn't think
Why did they leave her alone.

The pain couldn't touch them
Nothing could
Nothing would for years
They shut down like toys with dead batteries
Why did they leave her alone.

The pills had been in an orange bottle
Now it sat on the bedside table
Label facing out like a product placement in a film
Why did they leave her alone.

The cruise was terrible
It rained, they bickered
They drank, and worried about her.
Why did they leave her alone.

Why now...

Why like this....

Why did they leave her alone
Thy restless feet now cannot go
For us and our eternal good,
As they were ever wont. What though
They swim, alas! in their own flood?

Thy hands to give Thou canst not lift,
  Yet will Thy hand still giving be;
It gives, but O, itself’s the gift!
It gives tho’ bound, tho’ bound ’tis free!

Delirium tremens the lemons
Lost love and yellow
Cast of eye

Two twos the sevens
And what for those
In Heaven

Rancid liver the Shivers
Something wrong here
The Believers

Window dark no window
Splintered break to make
Betwixt between

Spinning colliding the Hiding
On a wall
The Shadows
Break of Day
