.                                                        I'm sorry.
                                                                                               Sorry to you first
and sorry to her.
                                                                                           Sorry I wasn't able to
                                                                                         help you at your worst
but also to her for showing up in a blur.
                                                                                                               I'm sorry,
                                                                                                   don't think I just
                                                                                              chose her over you:
                                                                                                      It's much more
                                                                                                        than that too.
I'm sorry you don't know me yet
and won't know what to expect.
                                                                                                  Sorry I won't say
                                                                                                                goodbye
                                                                                                     I know too well
that you're always at my side
Forgive me if I lose my mind,
if in the end,
I'm not what you'd thought you'd find.
*I promise I will stay strong
                                               No matter what it takes
On my own it may not last for long
But with you I will for your sake.
An apology to my girlfriend and suicidal best friend. Structurally, the right is for him, the left for her, and the middle for both.

I

  Calico Pie,
  The little Birds fly
Down to the calico tree,
  Their wings were blue,
  And they sang 'Tilly-loo!'
  Till away they flew,--
And they never came back to me!
      They never came back!
      They never came back!
They never came back to me!

II

  Calico Jam,
  The little Fish swam,
Over the syllabub sea,
    He took off his hat,
To the Sole and the Sprat,
  And the Willeby-Wat,--
But he never came back to me!
  He never came back!
  He never came back!
He never came back to me!

III

  Calico Ban,
  The little Mice ran,
To be ready in time for tea,
  Flippity flup,
  They drank it all up,
  And danced in the cup,--
But they never came back to me!
  They never came back!
  They never came back!
They never came back to me!

IV

  Calico Drum,
  The Grasshoppers come,
The Butterfly, Beetle, and Bee,
  Over the ground,
  Around and around,
With a hop and a bound,--
But they never came back to me!
  They never came back!
  They never came back!
They never came back to me!

If you saw things through my eyes could you even imagine what you would see?
In your observance is it I who appears to be unique?
Perfecting bold lies,
Stay aware for the deceptive man in disguise.
I'm leaving myself empty-handed,
You've taken great kindness for granted.
Pretending to be innocent but secretly manipulative,
You say to deal with it, move on, and forgive.
We lack understanding to be cohere,
Eventually the feeling fades then disappears.
Bending and twisting each other's thoughts our minds seem to be the killers,
I cannot get enough of this sickening thriller.
Your sweet painful words linger in my head and crawl through my skin,
Your sweet painful actions are buried within.
You're like poison in my veins,
But yet,
Our infatuation with each other still remains the same.
No matter what I write,
not a thing will change,
no reason to this world,
no magic in the way I see it.

I believe in peaceful rebellion,
but it that enough?

No one will likely listen to my words,
they will listen only to action,
but what can I do?

Violence seems to be the key,
wars waged in the name of virtue,
change founded on a mountain of corpses,
America's truth.

And though I struggle,
nothing I do or say will be heard,
my opinion is worth little.

Is this the world in which I want to raise children?

A fragile peace,
fought with secrets,
with fear.

A savage place,
segregated by race,
and aggregated equality.

A world without change,
laws forged through bloodstains,
sanguine writ,
the only truth I see.

And so,
I retreat,
this world estranged from me,
a hermit hiding,
in what ought to be.
A.P. Beckstead (2013)
They danced
gods praised them
fire lit burning high
flames embraced the dark sky
engulfing the moon and
swallowing all who played

women marked for ceremony
white passion making new
beginning a life without a past
vowing "I do"

Raging wars never cease
no bed or room offers peace
anger guilt lust betrayal
all behind solid walls
eat away
pride then the fall

getting back up on their feet as
another fire lights
dance and let go
of the lifelong chance

passing in glance
eyes see the deciet
heart pumps the shame
guilt warms the flesh
lust takes over
and the burning consumes you again.
Sunday morning, my dad
with the News of the World,
picking Bob’s Your Uncle at 10 to 1.
My mum in a titchy kitchen,
joined by a ***
of pongy tangerine cells,
raw tongues in a pan.
The tang of frying bread
tanned brown tickles my nostrils,
sizzles like Velcro on trainers.

Now my brother
in crimson pyjamas
walks in, plonks down for a plate
of six-hundred calories
all before midday.
Three meaty tubes
next to two yellow moons.
The mist of oil,
of grease clogs the air.
Tuck in.

Explanation: A poem written in my own time for university.
Think loud and think open,
as another world can be brought upon.
Drink another beer and enjoy the stay,
as the wait will be lifted off your shoulders today.
Get drunk and be happy,
never become to sappy.
You're young and you're a fool,
so yes, get naked and jump in that pool.
Get high on that ****,
you know you want to indeed.
Go to prom and enjoy your night,
find your friends, and never let them leave your sight.
Make good grades in school,
don't grow up and be a fool.
Be obnoxious and loud,
act as if your shouting at a cloud.
Fail that drivers test,
we all know you tried your best.
Study for that test you have in the morning,
but wait I don't feel like it, school is to boring.
Stay home and just sleep,
and continue your snoring.
Stay young forever,
and live your life reckless.
Think loud and think open,
as another world can be brought upon.
