All that is wrong
Abhijit Oct 2013
I go to bed, looking to start afresh
It was a long day, but I tell myself
There's always a new morning.
Its been this way for a while now,
And I'm starting to fear that,
Nothing's going to really change.
Everywhere I go, there's something wrong
With all the people in this country.
I walk out into the street,
A woman's appealing for justice,
Only to be ignored.
Suddenly, gurus aren't as pious,
Nor even reporters safe!
We take pride in our culture,
Yet we're letting ourselves down;
Looking at the wrong place,
In search of answers that lie within.
'Cause we got mostly us to blame
For all that is wrong!

Of Coming Home
Abhijit Oct 2013
The night sky was bathed with light
And the silhouettes became hills.
Peals of thunder rolled in,
As the first droplets of rain
Grazed against my face.
Over in the distance,
A storm brewed up,
While the train moved on.

The rumbles grew ever closer
The flashes of grey more frequent
The wind became chillier, but
All the weather did was,
Drive in the fact that,
I was coming home!

I took in all I that I could
The beauty of the mountains,
The sight of the rice-fields and,
The fresh smell of the earth
As the rain poured down.
The wind ruffled my hair,
The thunder roared, lightning snapped
While the train moved on.

The Brahmaputra loomed large,
In all its sheer majesty.
As I looked into the river,
A humbling awe swept through me
Only to be replaced
By the joy of coming home!

The Whistling of the Trees
Abhijit Oct 2013
The busy road now lay deserted
And the pavements unkempt.
Not a soul could be found
Treading its once proud lanes.

The houses were mostly in ruins
Its inhabitants nowhere to be seen.
The untidy lawns a symbol
Of all that had been lost.

An eerie silence settled over the place,
Only to be broken by the
Rumbling of the leaves and
The whistling of the trees.

Being Myself
Abhijit Jul 2013
I can't figure out why
I'm this version of me
Except for the time
When I'm in your company.

For a long while,
I have fooled around
Pretending to be someone
Who I'm clearly not.

I am tired of being ideal;
All I want in exchange
Is to just be myself
And not worry for a change.

Last Walk Together
Abhijit Apr 2013
We walked together,
across the evening trail
one last time
in a bid
to ease the 'goodbye'.

The rustle of the leaves
whispered in our ears
the tunes of the songs
we would sing
to one another.

The autumn sun on our backs,
now gave us the warmth
we always had
when our hearts sought
for the other.

A breeze on our face,
tried to make us smile
when, a while ago,
all that was needed
was just the sight of you.

Intertwined hands,
couples enjoying the stroll,
a reminder of
what could have been,
how we felt
like we were 'one'.

Here I am now,
back on my porch;
watching the sunlight fade away,
and with it, the memories
and...our last walk together.

Beauty
Abhijit Apr 2013
In this rat race to be fair,
Haven't we skewed our perceptions
Of beauty, and how we should be?
It sure shouldn't be based,
On the tone of your skin!
Wouldn't you consider it demeaning,
If you were the one ridiculed?
Here in India, all I see is people wanting to be fairer. Look around, and fairness cream ads are everywhere. And the sad part is, more and more girls are buying into the crap; even boys are now!

No More
Abhijit Apr 2013
I have been lying, pretending, about most things me;
Its suffocating, disconcerting; and I can do this no more
Inside of me, I regret missing out on breathing, and its real beauty
So much that I can't wait to get a hang of life bereft the armor.

The smile on my face meant no one saw the tears behind the veil;
When others crumbled beside me, I came off as strong
While on the inside I was distraught, and going pale.
But no more, now the world will know they were wrong.

Lessons
Abhijit Apr 2013
All my life, I've been troubled, pained,
So much, that even time won't heal.
But all the life lessons that I gained
From them, no thief can ever steal.

To Love, And Be Loved
Abhijit Apr 2013
Every day I wake up,
It's to some news that says
Somewhere, to someone,
Something horrible happened.
And things keep on getting worse
Even children aren't spared the abuse.
I wonder what happened
To the good ol' days when
Watching our backs wasn't the norm.

It saddens me when I look around
And see people just not give a ****
It is morbid to note how narrow
Have people's business become
Though we live in a globalised world.
We need to revisit our consciences,
Look deep down inside and ask ourselves
Why are we here on this earth
If not to love and be loved?

On My Way
Abhijit Apr 2013
Been a while since I last saw you,
And you sweet enchanting smile,
I miss the warmth of your embrace
One for which I'd run a mile.

I so crave for the taste of your lips,
And the tenderness of your gaze;
I miss the playfulness of your words,
And even your naughty ways.

I miss the beat of your heart
As your chest rested on mine,
I miss the long evening walks
And that kiss in the rain.

There are so many things that I want to say,
I’m not beside you now, but I’m on my way.
How I’d love to make up for the times I’ve been away,
I know I’m not there yet, but I’m on my way.

Down nature's lane
Abhijit Apr 2013
The night was dimly lit,
The moon dancing with the clouds,
On the silence did nature sit,
Far from the maddening crowds.

A cool breeze stirred my hair,
Bringing the sweet smell of nature's best.
As I waltzed embracing the air,
The cuckoo kept glancing from her nest.

I listened to the ripple of a nearby spring,
And as my feet took me nearer;
In my heart was a familiar aching,
To hold on to the moment forever.

I walked through the heavenly retreat,
Time flying by like the onrushing wind.
Turning back, I seemed to miss every beat;
As I got back to a place where people sinned.

Hope
Abhijit Apr 2013
Been a tiresome day,
With a lot going wrong,
I tried to be brave,
And to not lie;
Its been rough,
But I won't give up.
I did my job,
As best as I could;
Now I fold my cards
And tuck in ,
With the hope that,
As I wake up
In the morrow
And see what's dealt,
I play my game,
As best as I could.
Doesn't rhyme too well, but I thought I'd focus on the verse on this one.

The last few moments
Abhijit Apr 2013
The sound of your voice,
Makes me so much stronger
I need you by my side
That little bit longer.

The touch of your hand
Makes me feel so much better
I need you to be the glue
That holds us together.

I know I'm fighting a losing battle
'Cause it is with time that I wrestle.
But I'd be so much more happier
If I get a smile a little wider.

Tragedy
Abhijit Apr 2013
I can't quite fathom out
How I got engulfed by doubt;
I can't quite express how
But my life is a tragedy now.

There was this time when I would
Get along in life as best as I could.
Things seemed so much better back then,
How I'd love to live those times again.

Too much water's flown under the bridge,
Its been too long to go back to college.
I know now life isn't just some song,
Where I'd just dance, and waltz along.

I can't quite express how
But my life is a tragedy now.

Together again
Abhijit Apr 2013
The smile that made my day,
Has somehow drifted far away;
The smile that kept troubles at bay,
That smile is no longer there today.

Its been very difficult to cope,
But I haven't given up hope.
A part of me is trying to forget
you, but I'm not ready, not just yet.

Staring into the night on New Year's eve
Suddenly, somehow, I believe,
We'll meet again, my love;
It might be in the skies above
If not, in the next life then,
But we'll be together again.

Smile
Abhijit Apr 2013
During times when you feel you want to cry,
When it seems that it just isn't your day;
Remember, above the stormy clouds is a clear sky,
And smile, it would shrug most of your sorrows away.

When you are scared of taking that next step
Walking down life's uncertain path,
Just keep faith and don't hold yourself back
And smile, it would help keep in check life's wrath.

At different stages of our existence, we all fall
Into the abyss only to get back up on our feet;
So, at times, when you'd run into a brick wall
Smile, and some of your problems would be obsolete.

Sometimes, though, it might take a while
And you might need to go that extra mile;
Even when sadness seems an unending pile,
Trust in yourself and remember to smile!

Break Up
Abhijit Apr 2013
All I always wanted, was to be by your side,
No matter how rough the day, how stormy the ride,
All I always wanted, was to come home to you.
I never thought that we'd drift apart, the way we did
I never thought you say the things, the things that you said.
For all the times we spent, the good and the bad,
I thought I deserved a better goodbye, than the one I had.

I never said it was going to be easy
To grow into the relationship while we were busy,
I always said that it would take time
But that, in the end, it would end up just fine.
You had different plans, and I didn't feature in them
Normally, I'd understand, but then, you never tried enough
And took the easiest way out, the minute the going got rough!

Love
Abhijit Apr 2013
It started with a late night talk,
With stars up high and the moon watching from above.
But all that mattered were the words you spoke,
Your sweet voice proclaiming thy love.

As months passed, the bond grew stronger,
With it, our conversations grew longer.
Time seemed to freeze when our gazes met,
And it flew by till we had to separate.

The months became years; the feelings still the same,
Little differences crept in but the love remain.
For all the good times and the bad, you were by my side,
Like an angel, amplifying the joys and brushing sorrows aside.

It started with a late night talk,
With stars up high and the moon watching from above.

Friends?
Abhijit Apr 2013
Another day, another time,
Things might have turned out fine.
As of now, as it stands,
We are no longer friends.

Yesterday, in the yesteryears,
We would have wiped each other’s tears.
But now, looking down memory lane,
I wonder if I’d meet you again.

Why, oh why, did it turn out this way?
Please, oh please, tell me why did you betray?
I know, I know, broken hearts are rife;
But I never thought, you’d stop being a part of my life.

Everything we had, you let it fall,
When we could have had it all;
As of now, as it stands,
We are no longer friends.

Troubled Times
Abhijit Apr 2013
Mumbling to myself,
I walk out into the downpour.
Drenched and distraught,
I let my emotions pour.

The rain gets into my eyes,
Blending with the tears.
Out in a busy street,
I’m alone with my fears.

The hunger may have gone,
But the goals are the same.
Try as I may,
But the numbness remain.

A couple walks by,
Reminding me of the good times;
When the sun shined,
Up in the sky and on our lives.

The flowers seem to fade,
Even in the rain.
The weather turns cold,
Intensifying the pain.

Mumbling to myself,
I walk through the downpour.
Drenched and distraught,
I let my emotions pour.

— The End —
