Warm apple
& pumpkin spice
Its mid summer
but you're still burning
Fall scents
You bury your head
in your pillow
and twist your body,
all wrapped in sheets
toward the wall
beneath the window,
"It still smells good
so I dunno... whatever"

You're always laughing
at the most
insignificant things
and making eyes
with inanimate objects
like your guitar or my notebook
You say you fall in love
with the art I make
and then you kiss my forehead
and twirl my hair
between your fingers
You're the only one who really cares
to consider
all of my rants and hurried scribbles
'art'
Most of them have been
about you
for the past year or two
I wish I could still
show you
I know you'd pour
your eyes
into every word
Underlining all of your
favorite parts with the
tip of your pointer finger
& choosing one stanza
to sing like an other one of your
pretty songs,
strumming your thumb
against the page like the
strings of your tired guitar
Just like you did
on that patient day
last summer
Lying in your bed
Counting ceiling tiles
and making homes in each other's chests
I miss you

The lost elk on blue pine mountain,
Where all the stunted world is small,
Know the face of winter as it founts,
Above tree lines, trumpet all is cold.

My head rests against the same soft, familiar pillow.
My eyes are hidden by the same familiar silk mask.
I pull the same familiar ,warm, embracing blankets.
And I dream the same familiar dreams.

I’m walking down a path.
Not secluded, but very natural.
Trees are twinkling in the pure sunlight from the early morning dew.
The field is shining, bathing in the sun’s perfect warmth
Superb beauty is around.
As I walk along I grab a hand.

A safe hand, one that belongs to my protector.
His pace slows to keep by my side, though his steps could take him double the length of mine.
We continue our adventure

I listen to the birds singing, screaming words of twitterpation.
I see a small ball of red fluff. This young bird catches my attention
As it floats to a branch not far away, it lands next to another bird, one with a more subdued color.
Their eyes meet and the one that I spotted before drifts slowly in the air.
It appears now that it’s a male, explaining his radiant coat
It starts to hover in the air with strong, fluid motions.
The eyes of these two creatures never look away from each other
The flying dance stops.
Suddenly the two fly away together.
I understand now.
It was a courtship dance.
A sign of love.
These two will never part now.
It’s sealed in the eyes of these woods. Of nature. Of beauty. Of perfection. Of Heaven.
I only wish my protector makes such a gesture towards me.
We continue walking.

A little while later we stop to rest upon a few large boulders.
Eroded to flawless rotundity.
They’re grey, but far from boring, because when I look harder I see that the minerals sparkle ever
so subtly in the light.
Beauty in the smallest way.
The day starts to grow dark.
A blackness takes over, interrupted when the moon fully rises and the starts come out from
hiding.
Without warning a burst of lightning fills the space around us.

Sometimes you can't always get what you want
Like forgiveness
But that's okay if you don't deserve it

Have you ever tried to fall asleep half kissed?
It's as if while you lay there in bed, you know you need someone to hold onto you, or you will fall, or drift away

But no one is there to to be your anchor

And so night after night you sink
As the storm tossles the sea above
And when you try to cry out for help - a lifeline - the salty water stings your throat and burns your eyes
And your tears are the last bit of humanity in yourself you remember
Before the dark ocean settles you to the bottom
And you forever lie there
Forgotten, and half kissed
A work in progress

Gray gathering
Signs fell on the musty register.  Two pallid
Faces infatuate, braiding the ley lines,
Were married in a dimly lit registry.
Outside, the sky in Dublin was a dark pool,
The clouds were omen, birds, startled in
Your eyes, a flashing flue of doves, all wings
A warring coo, escaping into the dusk.

We walked a ways to that room of dreams
And dined in the Shelbourne’s Aisling room.
I was Ormond, I was Yeats and you
Were gone. Your happy tears were notes singing
Our sorrows that day.  Our love was castaway
Our love was time bomb.  Crossing stars, we trembled
As we talked. Two birds setting sights on some
Lost ocean’s horizon.

                          When first we met,
At the meeting hall, cradled in a tempest
Eye, you gave me your name and it burned on
The paper as it now burns in my mind
Like Brigid’s fire.  At once, once, we were one.
Conjoined yet neither one of us a joiner.
Anointed under the votive stars violently
Innocent your heart, a spike, my heart

A rail.  Our love was charmed, our love was time,
Balm.  To what end this new beginning?
Nineteen priestesses were assigned to tend the perpetual flame of the sacred fire of Brigid. Each was assigned to keep the flames alive for one day. On the twentieth day, the goddess Brigid herself kept the fire burning brightly.

The goddess Brigid was also revered as the Irish goddess of poetry and song. Known for her hospitality to poets, musicians, and scholars, she is known as the Irish muse of poetry.

everything is so dead
even with my heart
rhythmically pounding
everything is so dumb
in bed motionless, staring at the ceiling
I listen to the beat of the booming world that is surrounding, its trying to revive me
everything is so ugly
I'm full of negativity and the glass is half empty
I'm not alive
how is it I'm still breathing

A flower cannot unblossom,
but it can stay beautiful forever.
Put in a book-- thin as pressed papers--
all while its holder's fingers hover over.
There it stays safe until the book is closed,
the flower's fate, from then on, is unknown.
