You try your best,
to stand out of the rest.
Little did you know it had a cost.
Learn to find your way or you'll get lost.

When they start looking up to you,
they'll keep asking you what to do.
Don't get too attached, our you'll be their answer tool.
If you fail to give a satisfactory answer, you're no more than just a fool.

But who truly is the fool?
The user, or the tool?
The giver, or the receiver?
The puppet, or the master?

It all depends on how you perceive it.
People do not realize it one bit,
realize that you're the same as them too.
But their ignorance made them unable to.

Sugarcoated intentions,
are like cursed potions.
Angel in disguise?
gamble, to meet your demise.

Whispers sweet nothings to your ears,
will make you reveal your fears.
Once you start talking to the demon.
And you enjoyed it after talking for an eon.
The next time it talks to someone,
It'll use your voice to fool everyone.

What did you do to deserve this kind of treatment?
Infact, all you wanted was to get an achievement.
Now you're bombarded with unexpected expectations.
From people you barely know, saying congratulation.

Pick your choice,
stand out, but lose your voice.
Or compress, for your skills to be overshadowed.
Pick wisely, for your reputation takes years to load.

Your choice determines your reputation.
Shine, to be used for the wrong intention,
or hide, for your skills to be shunned in one swift motion.
Pick, or do it wisely as this is real, not fiction.

Stacks of book, next to missing assignments.
My mind is blank, and I could barely control my movements.
Everyone is sleeping,
while deadlines are ticking.

What do I do? I'm too tired.
I can't move my body, as if I'm wired.
Essay writing, they say,
but I could barely compose lines, to my dismay.

Why is there so much things to do?
My desk is so messy, compared to a zoo.
I'm tired and empty,
feeling very hefty.

My only source of comfort is the bed.
Lay on it, as if I'm dead.
Cover myself with my warm blanket,
brace myself, in my very own casket.

Overdosed in activities,
I've tried countless remedies.
Fighting the urge to sleep, like an ox.
The world we live in, turned into a paradox.

Deadlines are my biggest enemies.
Alarm clock sounds, are my morning melodies.
Sometimes, I envy those who dropped out.
Because that's the reality, of a student that's burnt out.

We grew up together,
we supported each other.
I thought it'd be a friendship, that would last forever.
But I sadly didn't know, that it would end this bitter.

Our friendship lasted for years.
But whenever I reach out to you, it reaches deafened ears.
Who is this girl I see?
She was my replacement to be.

Oh, those wasted times and years,
only to be replaced by one of my peers.
I panicked too hard, and decided to go with it.
I suppose it was long enough, and decided to quit.

I've finally left your life silently,
Sitting here in my bedside begrudgingly.
I decided to let go, and finally move on.
Though, there are times were I still think about you till dawn.

Embracing those times of us, before she came along,
Now I sit here with my new friends, where I truly belong.
I've finally said my goodbyes to you, my friend.
I hope you embrace those times, as it has finally come to an end.

Little Owl
Mitch Perito Jul 14
Little owl,
Little owl.

How graceful can you be?
So I went to the forest for me too see.

There, I saw the little owl fly,
as it spread it's wings under the night sky.
This was a poem I wrote during my middle school years :), hope you enjoy!

Learn how to manage your balance,
you'll never know if it's your last chance.
Don't think too much about what others say,
or you'll be left debating whether you give people dismay.

You try too hard, you'll be left strained.
You try your best, someone got the same score for trying less.
Your try not so much, your grades will be pained.
Learn to give what you can, or you'll be a mess.

Don't let others fuss about your mistakes,
it's just as bad as listening to snakes.
People only see your blunders and flaws,
so make them see you shine and watch them applause.

Remember, just don't be too vain,
I know being proud is good.
But you'll truly just be a pain.
So ignore the cynics, and lift up your mood.

Being yourself is already enough,
your doing this for yourself, so don't be too rough.
Not everyone gets achievements at this young,
were just a part of the crowd, surviving among.
The title "One-way mirror" holds 2 meanings.
1.) It shows that you should look what's behind the mirror (your true self), and not just your reflection.

2.) It also signifies that people only see the reflection (mistakes)  and not what's behind the mirror (achievements).

This poem was for my English assignment and I really liked it so I thought that it would be better if I posted it :)

ps: English isn't my first language.
