You punched above your league
You knew it
She didn’t
She believed in your superiority
Only because she had a hard time
Seeing
Herself
For her true worth
She only saw
What she was made to believe
By a society
That cannot recognize
Leagues

She said to me
“I hope his ex girlfriend is so ugly.”
That would not be my wish
To have stolen a pearl from a swine
I want my pearl to be
Pearl infused
A history surrounded
By beautiful things
And still
It’s my necklace he graces
Despite the choice
Of all those pretty faces

Trying to appear edgy
Not smooth
Rough neither
Wannabe something in between
Smedgy
That’s you, white bread
Pretending to be exotic
Smedgy

Elevator
Pretty crowded
I say, “I’m so sorry
I just farted.”  
And then everyone
Can’t help but think
“Check out this girl,
Her farts don’t stink.”

Sometimes the **** hitting the fan
Comes in disguise as a bath in champagne
Long awaited acid rain
That immediately quenches your thirst
Blessings and cursings come in disguise
To tired, hopeful, thirsty eyes

Your apology
Sounds like
An alibi
On why
You shouldn’t feel sorry
And that answers a question
I used to wonder
If something could be less than worthless
Apparently, the answer is “yes.”

I could tell he wanted my attention
Which was adorable
As adorable can possibly be
In a man of fifty three
For a few seconds
And a few seconds more
He was a little boy of four

As I sit here
Alone
Writing my mind
Only me
And my mind
You are there, too
And you, and you
Told through
Only me
And so it’s so confusing
There is no “I” in poetry

Neglecting to like
Isn’t really neglect
Pretending to like is the real neglect
It’s saying
“I approve of the not good you
more than I have to.”
And yes, it’s true
Even the not good you
Will do
Good enough
Is ok
But I’m not gonna like it
When you go that way
Friendship requires honesty
I won’t blow smoke up your ***
And you don’t do me

He got me dreaming
Feening
For a taste
His little bit of nothing
He breaks off to me
Feels like a **** buffet
I’m caught up in his wave
On it all the way
To the break

You like me too much
You think I am better than I am
I am uncomfortable with
Your vision of me
It is a poor reflection of society
That it is sometimes more comfortable
To be underestimated
Than it is to be overestimated
But
I’m not sure what it says about me

Maybe I’ll run out
One day
Spent of words
No more
Poetry
Left in me
There’d probably be no more
Me left in me
Either

She takes it on the chin
When he brings it in
More and more these days
He blames her
For his old ways
And still
She remains
The victim(s) often take the blame

He’s such an amazing guy
Who’s only fault is that
He looks like Harvey Weinstein
Oh my

Sometimes we forget
Approval is free
Among friends
We can expect
Acceptance
Freely
Among friends
If you feel uncomfortable
About who you are
You are not
Among friends
You’ve strayed too far

You’re better than me
I want to take credit
How does a parent resist
Looking at their amazing kid
And thinking
I had a lot to do with this?
But then I suppose
Parents would have to take credit, too
For all the stupid ****
Their kids do
Or don’t do
And so, my beautiful daughter
You being perfect
Is all from you

You didn’t have anything to do with it
You’re not the guy she’s trying to forget
But you carry his burden, too
That broken heart he left for you
You’ve left a few burdens, too

Calling a boo-boo an owie
And then
I get annoyed with myself
For being
THAAAT person

Allowing myself
The luxury of whining about
Meaningless ****
We might as all well
Take a moment
To whine about meaningless ****
What a freaking luxury!

I wish to see
A poem written from you to me
But would never ask
Maybe it’s best if I see

Such a narcissistic task
But for every reader who identifies

From wherever you are

Attract us
We love to see a show
Looked at from our lens
Over the crowd
The one we notice
Is flailing about

My wish is to bring about a
Poetry Revolution
Where the fight is brought
To the eternal battle
Knowledge over ignorance
Poets have the particular task
Of polishing off
Ignorance hiding as knowledge

Maybe my wish has already come true
Poets are the type to sneak up on you
Then speak up on you
There is yet to be a defense

We all have stars in our eyes
Invisible to some
And often most
But stars are there
In every one
Not really reflective
But probably the most I can see
Through someone’s eyes
Is another version of me

He sang her a song
Anonymously
And she was heard to say
“I wish that was for me.”

Disagreeing
The only clear way to not agree
But such an annoyance to do
Caught up in random crew
By accidentally
Forgetting to disagree

Random bird outside
Amidst the chatter
Sings a glorious song
No other bird

I come across a brilliant poem
Gem
Just gorgeous
Sitting in the dust
Touched upon by wind

As dust will sit

Dusty gems

This place ain’t
For the faint
Of soul
Diamond hardness

Maybe some newbies might see

It befuddles me
How you can be so surprised
After all those yellow
Flashing warning lights
Part of me wants to be angry at you
But I know
I’ve ignored signs too
I can’t even figure if hazzard is spelled
With one z, or with two

Mistakes on the front page
At first it annoyed me
Then it made me proud
To belong to a community
That celebrates imperfection
Fluid birth
And fluid beauty
Feels like the way it’s supposed to be

As she was
By all the things
He had commonly
Stood out about
He rose higher
And stood out more
Many an otherwise
Unremarkable
Unimpressed girl
Brought about
Genius
In some bozo on the bus
Still on for the stop
Anonymously
The spark which started the fire in he

Neglect precedes
Abuse
Busted wagons mostly go downhill
Horseless
And often driverless
Too
But sometimes
Depending what passenger do
Busted wagons have been
Known to come through

Twisted mind games
Don’t age well

Used to be the users and losers
Got lost
In undocumented abyss
And now
There’s the flood of proof
Often swimming with tides of
Same stories
Realizing similarities
In so many other bodies
A relief and yet a curse
Your pain becomes irrelevant
Against so many others
Who have had it worse
Twisted mind games
Commonly unique
Sounds all too common
From anyone who speaks
Some went on for far too long
Others got out quick
But most of us
Have been burdened
With loving something sick

You blame him for it all
Claim he ruined you
But you were already
Bent and broken
Before that guy came through
And since you been around
He got banged up
Too

Amazing what it can do
In just a snap
It can have power over you
Hero or villain it brings about
Get angry sometimes

The smartest thing for you to do
Is control the anger
Don’t let it control you

The difference is I send my daughter
Current funny or fun pictures
From my phone
Throughout the day
Not considering the mess in the
Background
Has ruined her whole day
I didn’t get hit in the face
With the mess the kids had made
I got to really be gone

You came here first
Or at least more than once
Losing my confidence
But I still know you came here
At least once

How she thought
But it was more true
That he never knew

I have yet to master the talent of
Holding my tongue
