The one friend
Who makes me wish I could be gay
She’d be a perfect lover
If I could just get down that way

I tend to set my sights high
Impossibly so, really
Go big or don’t bother

I could try to deny it

He is the man who
Makes me feel
At times
On the brink of insanity
Mind flutter
Even morphs

She is growing tomato plants in the back yard
I have named one Greta and one Nelson
She remembers
And calls them by name

Yep we can all agree
Mean people ****
You’ll get no argument from me
But maybe you are the mean sucky one
Always complaining about what
Mean people’ve done
Your toxic vibe
Of searching out
Toxicity
Is just creating it
Needlessly
Now we witness
The persistent victim
Reverse victimize
To same result
But justified
Under the VICTIM
Mighty pen
Been humming that tune
Since I don’t know when

Tease me out a sweet sip
Put me on my knees
Let me lap
Lazily
Little strokes
Here and there
Let me tingle you
Entice your skin to give it’s dew
And perk your pores up

I cannot follow you
When you go dark
Maybe I can’t go there at all
But I think it’s just

It’s probably objectively so
I never heard someone say no
You’re the rare gem
In the sea of men
A pretty boy

An amazingly precious delight

It could have been
Spectacular
If you were just a little bit more

I see the potential

You think I should have a better reason

Addictions are accidental
Nobody sets off
To be an addict
We all know it ends badly

Maybe addictions

I could get preachy
About cleaning out the trash
But it’s not my garbage
And nobody here is mess-free

With the audience somehow transfixed

So many still believe

And inspire you

Sustained

Some days it’s more
When it’s little things
Sometimes same

To keep the peace
I let you have a piece

It wasn’t worth the argument
To proclaim it didn’t really belong to you
For all your posturing delusions
I’m pretty sure you knew it, too

I know you
And your people
I know your hearts
Your souls
Y’all never have to work at being better
Which is why it is disbelieved
That you’re equal
But mark my words
When you are invited to the table
You will share
With all in need
Whether tribe or stranger be

And you will do it happily

If you throw that penny in the wishing well
You will have thrown away a penny
I’ve spent plenty of Pennies on less

If I heard he did it, one day

Not all at once

I come to see if you brought it

How perfect my home is?

You flowers have it pretty dull

Even the ones with thorns
Thorns are pretty easy to breach

A curse and a blessing

With a sprout 🌱
Now, I am the keeper of the sprout
Which needs a bigger cup
It’s looking unhealthy

I dapple water to simulate rain
And even bring it to sit outside in the air and the sun
The sprout is happy
It got left with me

She didn’t bring it as far as she could have
Not because she was wrong
But because he would have been mad that she was right
She thinks it’s right enough
Just to let it slide
Pretend it was all his idea
If she must
She’s almost stopped believing
Slides can be unjust

I wonder what a tree would say
To a climber
If it could

When people climbed on me
And birds
They’d probably tickle

I am a fuzzy lollipop
Kicking around on the floor

Sweet tooth

You tell me “it’s not that simple,”
You’re right
Nothing ever is
Simple it would be without human frailty
It is that simple
We are too weak

About that otherwise simple thing
Don’t feel insufficient
If you were always strong enough
You’d be a freak

Chances that are not earned
End in failure
999,999,999 out of a billion times
I’m not saying you
Won’t be one in a billion
One day, maybe
But the effort you think I got

To me

It is poetic that “eyes” and “skies” rhyme
**** and luck
Love and glove
**** and slick

Please and knees
