Spider Eyes
FunSlower Oct 2021
My old man used to laugh at me
As I lifted the lid to check
For spiders in the kettle.
I was always a nervous wreck.

I told him, “one day when I was eighteen
A huntsman flowed into my coffee”.
And I could never let it happen again.
It’s enough to put you off.

See, he couldn’t understand my fears.
He thought my story was a joke.
Until one day when I was twenty-five,
He learned I’m quite an honest bloke.

We woke at dawn for an early start
Before a day out on the sea.
I lifted the lid of his kettle that morning
And showed him a spider destined for his tea.

My will is the tide going out.
Your words, a dragged lake found wanting.
How can we not see all this love that is free?
To be had, to behold, to be solvent.

Her wish is a world in His orbit.
A plea that is ever absorbent.
Absolving a wrong that was never not right.
In their hearts, in their homes, in this moment.

I was told an awful story.
While the whole world rejoiced a false glory.
Don’t you see it now?
Don’t stop asking how!
The answers we seek are just around the corner.
The corner of the universe.
The universe in you.
The mystery in me.
The miracle of one plus one is three.

Humble Trinity
FunSlower Aug 31
I’m in your eternal orbit,
Facing your radiance as my fate.

My stasis is all because of you.
I’ll embrace my new favourite view.

An ancient terror arises in me.
Am I flying too close to the sun? ☀️

It matters not. I’ll let you burn me up this time.
It’s all I feel we should do when we find the one.

Five bodies move through this entity.
You, me and our humble trinity.

I cannot say if you’ll ever be free of those walls,
But I do know this was meant to be.

I’ll search the halls where you’re meant for me.

Set down worn passages penned at your dawn.
Somewhere under perpendicular starlight,
Adventure awaits your doppelgänger.
A pulverised youth; a parallel you.

Do you believe in Ghosts?

Silver lips insist on telling fleeting tales,
Resistant as they kiss.
Lustre fades into a fabled flutter,
Setting sail against this breeze we’re gifted.

Do you believe in Gods?

Carve a way across the waves you’re making.
Wake up to days of breaking blame.
Scream at the sky in a final flicker of fear.

Do you believe in Love?

Break a link in the longest line of loss.
Stay awake until we’re half past lust.

Do you believe in Luck? 🍀

I know how painful it all starts.

I know how numb you’ve become.

I know how lonely you can feel.

I know you struggle to trust anything or anyone.

I know you’re scared it’s permanent.

And because I also know how wonderful it is
Now being on the other side,
Having dreaded it’s not possible;
Every single day for as long as it takes,
Draw light from me. I’ll help you through!
Over horizons, you’re unfolding. Standing tall at
Noon in full bloom as you face me.
I’ll always be your Sunlight ☀️
As you are my Sunflower 🌻

Blank Canvas

I understand it now.
Eyes closed, never resting.
Recreational.
Concentrating on consecrating.
Perpetual.

An invitation withdrawn.
Never a has a dawn come to pass
Where I haven’t drawn lines from our past.
Rolling water against an irresponsive canvas.
Unconventional.

Give me a minute of your mind
To wander a world, imagining.
Take a minute of your time
To wonder as I do, annihilated.
I tried. I faltered.
We’re tired. We’ve wilted.
My everything means nothing to your reckoning.

We’re not even a week on
From when I looked up and saw your solar flare.
I was desperately trying not to stare.
It’s a bad habit of mine I’m learning to lose.
I’ve been called out on it before.

So, though I hid my gaze from your glimmer,
I find comfort in the familiar. And when I see you,
I see stars! There’s nothing I’ve known longer.

Though I have no way in this mind’s eye
To render anew your wonder,
I’d tear through planes of space and time
To reconstruct your quanta.

Give me another splinter of your splendour.
You set my heart ablaze in winter. Can I return
The favour? Just as the moon summons the sea,
I’m endlessly drawn to thee.

Beaming Moon
FunSlower Aug 21
Soaring towards you, my fundamental force.
Waves never crashed as hard as I, into you.
Singing your soul-song into chambers of me.

This is one thing I never expected to change me.
You’ve shown me that a beaming stranger
Can truly be my angel.

Your wings, my chariot.

My world, your marionette.

Enchantress of the ever-north,
Summon me from slumber.
Pull me through your window into wonder.

You hold on to me for the first time.
I live this moment like it were our last.
I love our moon for bringing me to your path 🌙

I was never told I’d live to see the sunset
And the moonrise so close together.
A twilight smile flickers over you
Brighter than sunlight across water.
I find it so peculiar we’d choose
The same name for a daughter.

I’ll never understand how it happened;
Coming from my childhood slaughterhouse
Into your lovely little home.
With the way you listened to me there,
How could I ever shy from all you’ve shown?

Remember that tiny house, floating on the bay?
It would be enough for me!
Actually, I checked the market around here.
It would be more than I can afford.
What ever happened to our world?
What happened to our words?
What happened to the glint in her white pearls?

These weekends hold adventures
Unlike any I’ve ever known. Well-wishing the
Moonflower my world has finally grown 🌺

I can never quite put my finger on all these new
Colours that grow in the rainbows of you 🌈 🌈

In every way you unfold around me,
You are my new favourite flower.

If your glow could shower me in dancing petals
For any longer than our topaz kiss,

I’d fall into your web of wonder,
Forever lost in morning bliss.

It’s the pleating of you
That ever edges me,

As I’m pleading for you
And the marks on your skin.

Ugh! What is this game?

Wake Up!
FunSlower Sep 20
I walk out by the water without your magic.
The bay is so still while you’re not here;
My mind could never match it.

A home is really just a house
Whenever we’re alone.
That lighthouse is not so aptly named
When its glow is never shown.

I sit where I had you in my lap for our interview
And take in the view as my eyes search for you.

You sleep in a sea of subtlety.
Your life sings to mine from afar.
You’ve shown me a world that is meant for me.
So, I’ll imbue the puzzle ahead of me.
I’ll dizzily walk into your lingering laughter.
It’s okay for you to swing at me, playfully.
I’ll just spin you around in the air. 🌀

Enough
FunSlower Jul 7
You asked me two questions that evening.
To know you thought of me there,
Among grief without end,
Where there’s ever more room for bleeding…
It’s enough.

I don’t know how the world never showed you,
Every cell you’re dividing is heaven deciding
No hell could hide this one truth;
You’re enough.

So, it’s my turn to show you, before we get old.
What I know we all owe you. To have & to hold.
I’ll catch every red raindrop as proof.
They’re enough.

Endgame. You raise your shield to ward off love.
I fall to crimson swords. We’ll replay until we win.
We’re enough!

Turquoise Sunshine
FunSlower Jul 22
Words dance in and out of us at first light.
You bring new life through old wires and waves. Mourning new absence; old morning’s absinth.
How do we crave what we’ve never known?

If I could reinvent this universal game
In any way I choose,
I’d remake it all just the same
To find my way to you.
For taking away one single blink
Could reinvent the way we think.
Yet the thought of you has only been outshone
By my learning you’re truly even greater.
Take me through the tides of your life.
I’ll hold you up when you struggle to swim.
Above the surface, where you see white wash,
I’ll shower your body in turquoise sunshine.
Down below, where you shiver with pressure,
I’ll warm you up until you shimmer in pleasure.

Shell Shock
FunSlower Jul 6
4 feet between us.
Yours are shaking.
Impossible for me to know if it’s me
Or the day ahead that has you unnerved.
I wish it was me for every right reason,
But maybe it’s all for the wrong.

It’s my turn to shake now. Thump thump thump.
Lips that know no parting. Thump thump.
Tongue taut without any talk. Thump.

Wait!
Why are we in a suburb thieves wear in winter?
My resolve starts to splinter. Entropy enters me.
Every eternity pushes me to ask you.

I caught all the signs, but never your name.

She’ll shock you with a new shell shock.
