One Mississippi-
Two Mississippi-
And three, of course,
but we never made it
to three, no,
not you and me.

Cracked concrete
cobbled together
by quatrains of
soil, love, water,
and rock-

Not of the ages,
but certainly of
this year, although,
who really keeps
count?

Back to the
cemented beliefs
and stone streets
that we came up
on. Take a step, a
jump, on one, on two;
you're free.
