[things i've seen in dreams]

the demon wants to comfort me. that is why he comes. our couch is low. curves like a tongue. green fabric. green water. green leaves. i lay on my stomach. i am heartbroken. it’s not the demon’s fault. he counts my toes because he has hooves. touches the back of my knee repeatedly. calls me sapling. says, sapling, tell me about your dreams. this is a dream. one of my favorites. i never see the demon’s face. i make up lies. to be touched by claws.
