If sweet words coursed through my veins
Instead of the thick crimson
If every cut or bruise spelled out
terms of endearment
I wouldn't need you, darling
I've got a family with favorable opinions
To acknowledge my triumphs

If I fed my body time
Seconds between hands or lips meeting
If calories were moments
Shared between two kindred spirits
I still wouldn't need you, dear
I've got friends with open hearts
To maintain my well-being

If promises were fluid
and life flourished where it spilled
If secrets were essential
And the key ingredient to finding yourself
I would never need you, love
I've got myself
And that's enough.
I don't need no man.
