I was playing with my friends,
When I was just a boy.
Found a shiny penny and can still remember the joy.

I carried it in my pocket
Every single place I went.
All the stores that caught my fancy,
The penny I never spent.

It brought me luck you see
In the many things I did.
Times change and I grew up
For then I was just a kid.

Eventually I thought it childish and put the penny away.
A man I am now.
Facing a different day.

The stress of life took it's toll
And time slipped quickly by.
Then one day when all alone
I sat down and started to cry.

Looking at my old pictures
And remembering things I did
Out of a small little envelope
The shiny penny slid!

I laughed so hard the tears went away.
Holding the penny so tight.
The warmth of joy flooded my soul.
Opening the windows for light.

I put the penny in my pocket.
I take it everywhere I can.
It's not the luck but the joy it gives.
I am only a man.
Dedicated to my Adrian. You have always been and always will be my shiny penny.
