It was New Year's Eve and I was sitting outside
of the coffee shop at a table with my girlfriend.
The cool breeze swayed across the landscape,
thin trees stood in silence observing the scene,
while the sunset turned down its shimmer.
I sprinkled a dash of cinnamon into my coffee
and stirred it to a satisfying taste.

As I sipped on it, letting its delightful aroma
seep inside my soul and brighten my glow,
I stared at the blank expression on my love's
face.  There was a deep mystery in her dark
eyes, a dull light empty and dried.  I tried to
cheer her up, but she was still gazing around
in silence.  She pulled out her lighter from
her purse and a pack of cigarettes, then lit
one up and blazed a puff in the damp air.

And as she watched the color of the sky
fade into purple shadows, she turned her
attention back to me.  I could see in her
hazy frame that the worst was coming
from within her mouth.  I smiled and
attempted to keep my composure.

She told me that I wasn't doing enough
to please her anymore.  She needed a
real man and someone that could take
her into the light, to make her feel the
beats rise in the horizon and shine, to
give her the love that she needed
throughout the seasons.  I tried to stay
cool, but my heart was losing its breath.
The small glimmer of stoplights was
flashing in my direction, heavy traffic
was cruising down the highways,
each vibrating motion pounding inside
my ears, as I inhaled her chalky words.

Everything had changed.  My chiseled
flesh was beneath time, a dying cloud
falling into sunken seas.  As she
stood up from the table and waved
goodbye, I knew that she was never
going to return back into my world.
Everything that I ever wanted was
gone.  The woman that I loved,
my sweet jasmine, had opened
her wings and soared away
across the mountains.
