I asked a cricket if he please
Could come and play a game
With me
The wind was soft, the sky fair
He loved to touch my golden hair.

We jumped the pond in half a bounce
Travelled the bridge in delight
Then underneath the chestnut tree
He came, we both lay down to read
And I had made a friend that day
Please don’t ever go away.

Love Mary ***
