I sink my teeth into my wrist
Listen to the ticks inside my mind
Pretend the bite marks are a watch
Counting seconds, passing time

Flick off the switch inside my head
asking questions like
Who am I, why this
what is bliss
How did it come to this

Wander off in directions
Guided by a light so dim
Barely seen against the background
of shattered thoughts so black and grim

I often fear I am not worthy
of the praise I receive
