I'm not caught in the mainstream
In fact I try to stay away from its banks
Because I know, that as soon as I set one foot in
I'll drown
The mainstream is fast, always moving
A current more like a highway
Once you're stuck, you're stuck
You need someone like me to throw you a life preserver
You see, I'm not worried about drowning necessarily
I'm more interested in the fact that,
While everyone else is zipping along a social waterway,
I'll be on dry land
More freedom
More air
But most of all, a different perspective
If the water's moving too fast,
No one can notice you
No one sees any difference between you, and someone else
You spend your life trying to keep up with the current
You're a fallen leaf floating in the water,
Never meeting dry land again
Until you stick to the side of the bank
And then what?
Would you continue on?
Keep going until the water weathers you down into a withered particle?
I can dream bigger, speak louder, stand out and be free on dry land
The mainstream leads nowhere
But I guess some people just like to swim
