The scent of balsam
waltzes around the room
and lingers in my nose

It takes me back
to snowflake kisses
tight embraces
infectious smiles
and laughter

That day was real,
I remember

But before long,
selfishness infected us

Evil did not require an invitation
But like a thief happens upon an open door,
he came in
       stole
          and left us

Before we knew what happened,
we tried to mend the hurt we caused one another

Eventually we decided
we were no longer worth fighting for

But I will always remember
That snowy December
when our hearts were full with life and love
for each other

There she lies
frozen in time
The warm, sweet sun
seeps inside
Caresses, falls down
the little girl
And wraps around

I will take you from this place
I can help,
you mustn't wait
Come with me and you will find
Joy and love that only binds

It cannot be
and never will
Of what you speak
has since been killed

She felt it once,
it swept her in
Little girl
fell into sin
It pulled her by the hand,
it found
She nods her head,
and it pulled down

Drowned in brokenness,
erased
She put on a different face
She sat there empty
thinking of
The melody
she heard in love

Now she sits alone and stares
When someone looks
she does not care
She can't, she fears another day
when it could never be that way

A drain in my core
Emptying the life from me

Always remains
******* for days

You are bad
You are stupid
You are ungrateful
You are ugly
You can do nothing

Guilt invades me
Anxiety overtakes me

In a gaping low
Jesus quiets my soul

He speaks:

I make you good
I make you smart
I make you thankful
I make you beautiful
You can do nothing
Without me

Trust invades me
His grace overtakes me

I belong to the King
