i observed
from the corner of the room
coffee warmed lips
and muddled thoughts

the girl who walked in
chatting easily with friends

i watched her decay
into the girl
who walked in
laugh a little too loud
eyes a little too sad

i watched her decay
she walked in alone
a warm smile that didnt match her eyes

no friends
no laughs

she wore long sleeves that day

i watched her decay
into the girl
who walked in
laughter smothered in her own mind
no warm smile
isolated
skinny bones

i watched her decay
until it was too late
she no longer walked in
at all
like wiltering, decaying plants
you mostly catch them
when theyre too late
to save

this kind of 3am is not for the happy ravers
nor the lovers asleep in each others arms
this 3am is the boy in your maths class with the sad eyes
and the girl who hasnt eaten in a week

afraid that if they fall asleep
they will fall in love
with the peacefulness
of the dark

i miss you
the way the sun must feel in the sky
missing the moon
when she shines alone in the day

i crave you
the way the dark of the night
must crave the light of the moon
scared to be alone with nothing but her stars

but i know

i must leave you
to let you shine

just like the sun knows
he has to set
to let the moon
glow
